Something about YOUR country please.

Hello.

I'm quite curious about the quality of life in different countries. I live in Poland, where we are constantly told about the "rich western europe". I sometimes wonder if it's really that good to live there. So I'd like to ask you guys: How high the average payment is in your contry? How much un-employed people is there? Just to make sure.

In Poland, it's hard to get a job.. actually, you're kinda stuck to cleaning streets or working in some kind of asbestus works if you've not finished the high school.. and even if you did, the salaries are still low and some professions are ridiculously tough to find employment in. Say, biology.. Who needs a biologist in Poland? No one, I'd say. And even if you get the work miraculously, all you can get is 250 euro per month.. or 300 euro per month.. or whatever. It's so damn annoying that the payments are so low here.. actually, it's hard to earn more than 500 euro per month here. At least if you're not a crime, a corrupted politician or other abuser and life is as expensive as everywhere. So , after paying for your flat, food, electricity, gas and all other things, you're left with 50 euro "to have fun with". Aww.

How about your country?

Denmark

In Denmark, I guess we have a healthy standard of living. "Normal" jobs will usually get you a salary between € 2000 and 3000 a month, depending on your level of education. Leading positions will even take you considerably higher, even though of course only a minority posses such positions. Unemployment is present, but in most cases a relatively minor problem.

Of course, there is a drawback. Living expences - such as rent, food, etc. - are probably 10 times the level in Poland. Furthermore, we pay around 50 % of total tax of our income - even more, if you're in the highest level. Of course, there are benefits as well - like free school, free universities, free doctors, free hospitals - but certainly, some people feel they have too litle freedom, because the government take so many of their money. However, when all comes to all, Denmark has been rated the best place in the world to live by some American scientist, so I guess we're not that bad off.

Oh we have "free" schools too, and "free" doctors etc.

The point is doctors usually want a bribe. No, seriously. If you go to hospital, you have to bribe them to make them care for you. If you don't pay, they will ignore your presence. They will do the absolute minimum, the things they really must. It's not fun to be treated badly in such a place, so most people pay. Not much, but still.. it's pathetic.

Schools are "free", but the books and other things are very costly for a typical Polish parent. If he has several children, it becomes worse - to a point where you have to buy secondhand things.

There are also more ridiculous abuses, when you want to acquire a drive licence, you will most likely fail the exam 528347092347287 times, because the examiners want to make a lot of profit on you. So, you will fail because you closed the door too loud. Or something equally idiotic. Each time you have to pay around 50 euro, mind you.

So, it's "free" in theory only.

Hm, it seems Serbia is pretty similar to Poland... I think all Slavic countries share that similar corruption thingy... That can be icky at times.
Nevertheless, I think here in Serbia it's somewhat tougher because the whole Kosovo stuff... That gives an advantage to nationalist political movements and if they come to power only God can help us... The current democratic government is not very much liked by the people since they're all the same corrupted bunch but they're still way better than even more corrupt quazi-patriots.
When politics and economy are overlooked, though, it's not so bad here. Some foreign research showed that our two music festivals ("Exit" - for modern and "Gucha" for domestic, traditional music) are among the most visited in the world... Great food, beautiful women, historical sites (monasteries, castles, Roman ruins, stuff like that ) and vast amounts of alcoholic beverages all actually make Serbia a cool, if unpredictable place to live...

Sweden

+ Spanking, Slapping, what so ever is illegal. Am I and Ruby possibly the only ones here who never have got a whip when doing something wrong as young kids?

+ The Alliance won the election! No more Socialist/Green/Commie terror!

+ Royalties. The king the main evidence of the fantazy world we live in.

- Abortion. It is petty ridiculous that you can kill your unborn children, but if they throw a glass of lemonade on you and you slap them you may go to prison in 1-4 years.

- Feminism... I don't want a -qp but GAHHHHH!!!!

- It is cold, so cold. Why do we live here? California would be much better.

- Everyone seems to think that they are living in the best country in the world (except for commies who believes that Cuba is an Utopia).

-  One million Arabs, well I have nothing against them (their food is delicious) but it feels a bit strange when a Moslem missionary from Iraq comes knocking at my door.

Darn, why wasn't I born somewhere else?

Bulgaria is similar to Poland and Serbia too, the casus here is not about all slavic people, it is the casus "Eastern Europa", however the problems in Bulgaria (similar to Poland and Serbia) are not from present or... recent "mistake", the are problemst from 1393, 1878, 1879 and 1919, and they affect Bulgaria to now, in 1393 the Turks conquer the Balkans, 500 years we are province in Ottoman Empire, called "Rumelia" or "Bulgaristan" in 1877-1878 with Russian hepl and Bulgarian  initiative, we start war for freedom (this is only the finall war but they are many before it), after the dead of the Great Hristo Botev. In the final battles the Ottoman Empire forward many soldiers, they must pass Shipka pass in the „Battle of Shipka Pass" they are defeated.

In 1878 we are free. But the Congress of Berlin, "damage" Bulgaria

British Empire, Germany (the crazy Otto von Bismarck guy) and all other are vs us and Russia so the Treaty of San Stefano is cross off

Later Serbia and Bulgaria have a plan for "Balkan Federation" - one mighty union for the Balkans, but again all are vs the Balkans. The bulagian leader is killed in USSR, and the plan for Balkan Federation is cross off... The Balkan Federation was really good idea...

Israel

Well I just came back from being 3 years in California. Such a butiful place. Well, I'm sure that everyone heard about Israel. We're at war basically everyday, lots of crimes, unstable government, lots of traffic accidents, and many more. On the bright side- It's not cold, we have the perfectly-temperatured Mediterrenean Sea, lots of beutiful places, lowest point on Earth, Eilat, and many more. I guess it's not such a bad place; unless we're under attacks by our neighbors...

Mexico

We have free school, free services but just in the urban places, there a lot of sites far away from any civilization and it's looks like they live in another country, the goverment is making efforts to solve this... but this is the main reason why a lot of people leaves this places and go to the United states to work and get some money... the mexican who travels to the north are the poorest, and the ones who didn't have any kind of education of preparation... that's why historically we are discriminated... but I really think besides some evidents problems... the people who live in mexico, study, and work in this country can have a very nice live... is my case and I'm proud of been part of my country...

Well, in Poland people genuinely dislike Russians. Some also hate Germans, but those are seemingly more rare. We have a lot of stupid American praisers, too. They don't know a damn thing about USA but they still love them.. because TV told them to do so. Ah, and many, many Poles HATE Jews. That saddens me so much. A country that has suffered so much during last 200 years is so full of rascism that it's really pathetic.

What's Up?

Canada...

I don't know what you're all complaining about. I moved to Canada when I was 4 and a half, so I don't know much about how things get done in Europe, but in Canada everything is GREAT!!!

Here we have little crime, free education, inexpensive homes, and free Medical Care. Yay! Also the taxes aren't that high, and salaries are good. We have no grudges against any other countries, and our government  lets us do whatever we want.

Life is great, eh?
