How does bringing wyngaal back help anything?

i thought it was clear..
When Wyngaal was sent out of the ToH community, he has left us with a curse 'of the everbanning'
So we have to bring him back so that curse be lifted

wyngaal back = no rules.
In some cases(=maps), death town can be total exploit too or some vitorio or staff, mebe dwarfs?.. or whatelse!?

Lately, at least on my rmg games, i play no rules at all.(only no InstantT)
Since rmg has alrdy more luck factors then an average map, like terrain, no point in try balancing just accept your certain fate of luck in that game.

_Ded man lake
_Heritage (of deleb)
_batelzone
_Over the hills..
_Dragon cape
_Ability
_Forgoteen K
_1 ubi map (neibors, penisula..)

My favorites as of today, in no particular order:

Ashes
Forgotten Kingdoms
Heritage of Deleb
Dead Mans Lake
Dragons Cape

For this purpose I think maybe Ashes will be too big, all the others can give pretty fast games (4-5 hours)

Btw - Great initiative Zilonite!

I would suggest picking 5 maps... one of the choices Random Map Large+

And the way to agree on map is simple.  Each player chooses the map they want. If they cant agree then those 2 maps are removed from choices... Then players pick 2 other maps they want... if cannot agree on either of those 2 maps... then those 2 maps removed as options and then the player MUST play what ever map remains.

I`d say: Make it simple, pick one map and all who are interested play that map. For a start anyway. The less complications and rules, the better chance of a "success" (whatever that may be

I know a few of us will vote for it
I'm fine with all listed so far though

But main problem is .. will ves make such a tourney?

Well we could do something like this:

First pick maps....  (like)

Ability
Heritage of Deleb
Dragons Cape
Dead mans Lake
Forgotten Kingdoms
and so on....

then vote for each map.....
then each player who wanna play "play" that map  (like first round)
then 2'nd round next map and so on....
the winner of each map get an title like "The Gladiator of Ability"
and so on.....

just a thought.......

I wonder why no one votes for Dueblo. That is one of my favourite maps (although you shouldn't play Necro on it). Enigma is another map I really would like to play.

If Ves wouldn't organize such a tournament, it would no problem to host it on drachenwald.net. I could create an English page for it, and maybe we could get some German players joining ToH by that. Tell me, if you are interested.

now this is another issue.. lately i wonder if one should play vs necro on any map. If necro on dueblo is 90% win then on other maps (most) is how much.. 80%? 75%?

All make a fuss about arties and heroes overpowered, wyngaal was first to go- im sure coincidence that most clans are chaotic..

..then, noone cries of necro being too strong (using mambo-jumbo stuff like transformers, weird skills and for some reason on top, town deserves more reinforcments per week using necromancy
- im sure coincidence that most clans are chaotic..

Well, I play against necro on any map which has no default joiners. But if the Necromancer breaks through to the joiner area on Dueblo, the other player (in that case, it was me) has to face a horde of wraiths which surely led to certain death (nonetheless it's a great map).

But back to topic: any news from Vesuvius?

I'll create a mapmasters subtournament -- no problem.  But I need a concise list of maps, but not too many... or otherwise there wouldn't be enough points/wins/losses per category.  IE. 4-10 maps max, with one being Random Map.
It would also be playable for clan points as well.

Map&Rules
Quote:

Yep, exactly!
Regarding rules - "standart" rules of the tourney should be as minimal as possible to keep it all simple. If two opponents can agree on something in addition, no problem. But "standart" rules should be as simple as possible - dudes, don't take this all too serious! The motto of the tourney is "More FUN!", its not World Chess Championship..

Regarding maps - again, same principle of simplicity: one tourney=one map. If this all gonna work well, we can make next tourneys, each on its own map.

Picking of the map
Quote:
(..) maybe a poll or something ?
Btw.. please include hourglass in the selection

Actually this thread was intended to be something like poll, where everyone can express their thoughts about favorite maps and all other stuff
One is clear anyway: its just impossible to make tourney for everyones taste as it is impossible to make completely&ultimately balanced map for all races and all circumstances. So if this tourney seems to be fun for you - participate; if no - don't spoil fun for others and wait for next tourney or make one of yourown

Status of the tourney
Quote:

But main problem is .. will ves make such a tourney?

Well, if we are aiming at official ToH subtourney, then one of main preconditions should be that its not eating up too much of Ves' time (knowing how busy he is). Therefore my idea was that Ves agrees to give medal and/or some prestige points to winner + makes little announcement on ToH front page about the tourney. The most we can ask of him would be that he as a ToH-chief picks map for tourney (to avoid too much arguing about the choice). The rest can be done by some madman-addicts like me and most of you all

Most important point here: to make it really fun, someone should be an organiser of it all. As I started all the buzz, I would be happy to make it all happen - only some web-support from Fiur or MysticPhonix might be needed . However if somebody (Ves or MysticPhonix) can take care of it all and be the man in charge, then i'm all in as a full-time participant

Action-plan for near future:

- wait for some more days to give some room for more opinions on favorite maps, wish to play etc. + to see what Ves thinks bout it all;
- then i'm contacting (via emails or otherwise) players that expressed interest to play and making list of participants. This stage is very important to make sure that players, who agree to play, are actually willing to do so. In the past one of the things that ruined most of such tourneys, where games that were not played during the tourney;
- then... let the battles begin

EDIT: Lol, Ves just posted, while I was typing

Imho, this should be as an elimination tourney - you (or somebody else) pick the map, people sign up for participation and then its 1/8 finals, 1/4 finals, semi-finals and final game for the Master of That Map title. Then - little break, new map, new tourney...

Otherwise (i.e., if to make "more games=more points" type of tourney) there simply won't be nuff of activity going on.

Lets start agreeing on maps.....

I propose the following maps as a diversified list of options.

Ability
BattleZone
Dead Mans Lake
HourGlass
Random L/XL

I suggest we keep the list at 5 MAX.

I agree it has to be ELIMINATION bracket style tourny.  No more tournies that you play endless games to acquire points.  Elimination tourny will force some players to play vs each other that other wise wouldnt play.

Theres another way of choosing a map without arguing: making standard poll. So far everybody was giving some maps. When we do poll there will possible to vote for only one map. After a week we could see which map is most wanted and we can organize a tournament on it in another week time (so that everybody can play on it a bit more) If theres a tie Ves could have a final vote. After the tournament we can do another poll excluding the map from the previous tournament and so on...

Everybody who votes should make a post too so that we know there are no new accounts involved etc..

As we vote for maps now in two separate threads, guess this one can be used as one for discussions regarding Map Masters rules&opinions

Just a few additional ideas:

- "default" rules should also contain difficulty on which the map should be played (guess, thats "hard" as vast majority of ToH games are played on "hard")

- brackets for the tourney should indicate which player has to be red and which blue (but players can agree on different sides)

- may be we can use ToH rankings when making brackets (i.e., who v. whom is playing), so top players can meet each other only on semifinals/finals?
