3D Model Question
I would like to first say Hi,..great forum..and my question, is there anyway to import/export the type of model files..thats what i am not sure of do they use any main stream formats Like .3DS .LWO .DXF .MSH this game uses that way some of us Model makers can get some real New Creatures into the game and not just simple re textures,..just curious but some of these new HOMM5 creatures Have got to GO
Any Help would be great.. perhaps even I could be of help to the Moders here as a Max Modeler
PS: or you might know of an importer Plugin for Max/Maya

Yes, there is a plugin. I can show you how to use it, and send you all the stuff you will need.
What is your email?

So what's the latest news on the modelling front? Something about being able to use the editor to import new files? Can that be combined with the old "export model" thing we had a while back???

sortof.
The importing uses a different file than I can work with, sadly (I think, now that I realize I actually haven't checked!) But I might be able to find a converter. Coding really isn't my thing.
Anyway, if Kronos would tell me where he found it (HINT HINT) I might eventually be able to test it.

Quote: All right I'll try to explain what I have found: I fyou place a Creature in the Editor and go to the Shared file and then to Model you can create a new file in the desired folder, you'll see SourceScene (models/Heroes/Godric/Godric_mounted_LOD.mb by standart) there is a Browse button here where you can load mb files from your harddisc I don't know what AIRootMesh means, but I hope it's not important, if you check Skeletons and Geometry you'll see they also require mb files and the AI Geometry too, this is what's required for a new Model. (I think, I haven't tried this yet) Now to give your Model Animations, you'll have to create two new AnimSet Files one for Arena and one for the AdvMap. You'll se this requires another mb file and a folder called ExpScrsClipFolder (I don't know how Maya works so I don't understand this) Now you'll have to add Animations such as idle00 or move (You know that stuff) and you'll see each Animation requires an mb file and an ma file, I hope this works, if it does than we have finally uncovered the secret of Modeling!
Does this clear something up

So what we are looking at is editing .MB .MA files those are Maya format,.but what i don't know is exactly is how to extract them from the Games file's. I do know you can UnPack the .PAK files with WinRar..Then i see some .DDS which are texture's..And some XDB, not sure about those but can be read with word-pad easy enough,..But if i could locate the models to extract them I'd be in buiness,...Thanks for the reply's

There's a program to do it, let me see if I can find it.
Here??? (See the H5 models thread, currently on the front page a little below this one.) From what I understand, Maya doesn't read this filetype, so you need a converter such as 3DS to make it a file Maya can understand. If I remember correctly, Daystar works with 3DS, so he can change the models, he just needs something (or indeed a kind someone) to convert the models to Maya format for him so that he can see the models in game. Then there's some more stuff in that thread that goes right over my head, concluding I think in "so it's not really possible".
??? In other words I'm confused... ???

Of course maybe i should have said this from the Start I also model in Maya so, I do have both Maya And 3dsMax,..But what exactly I can not understand is ,.. From what i have read on here, and other post's is what are the files are we trying to convert?,..I have only seen .MB file's mentioned in the XDB files,..(that I have read), and if there is other files that holds the,.. model/animation/skeleton data ..I probably can help in converting those files into any format known...But what i am saying is I would need those files..thats what I cant locate is the actual File or files,.. that holds the 3d mesh/animation/bones/ data...Hope this is clear to everyone

The files that are in data.pak\bin (ICYDK: open it with an unzipper such as 7-Zip) may be what you are looking for. I believe we have puzzled over those already.

No not really in my earlier post,..This is where i get stuck..I can extract the pack files...AKA Data.pak with Winrar,..inside that file are a vast numbers of .DDS files witch are texture files , And .XDB i think which are basicly..the games .Ini files..now inside of those XDB file's it has link's to .mb files like what Maya use's what i was wanting to know is how to get to these files so they can be altered for different model's/Mesh/animation/bones..

I don't think you can extract the mb files from the data.pak. I was under the impression that you had to use the program I linked to earlier (again, I am not 100% sure I have the link right) to extract the models (that might be the wrong technical term for all I know), then convert them through something like 3DS to Maya files. In terms of adding new models, this may well be possible; Kronos1000 is the person to talk to there I think.

Data>Bin>Geometries
The relevent geometry is in the .xml files.
If you still have trouble, then let me know what you want and I can send it to you.

Sorry for reviving this tread, but does ANYBODY actually have a useable convert/plugin for a regular 3d program(3dmax, Milkshape, Maya, etc)?
I have looked over a bit, and the Modders Workshop does not contain a single useable link(that can be found).
The "Useful software for modders" tread does not a model convertor, and that is a problem.
Help?

Converting = both ways, no?
Prefferable both ways, but converting to the H5 filetype only works too.
