Fraps / YouTube Help
Hi,
- I dont know how many of you fellow HC's are familiar with fraps ...So I am making a query here ... oh yeah, forgot to mention, I am sorta new to it 
- I have it all set up an ready to go. I made a 30 sec video from ToE Demo and the movie itself was fine... this was my 1 try so no sound. Made a new one ( still 30 sec give or take ) this time I got the sound on but had to turn my headset ( microphone - cheap one I once bought ) FULLY up to even hear the slightest of my own rambling. Sidenote here, on skype/Teamspeak my headset works flawlessly.
- And I checked the last video ( remember it was only 30 sec. ) and a stunning 650mb (30 FPS) glowed at me .......
- So, What I am after is this :
1) Some sort of fraps overview ( walkthrough ) there might be something I have missed.
2) Are there some sort of free and legal program I can d/l to get my videos down in size ( I am skating on thin ice here e.g. I have NO idea what I should be looking for )
3) Anyone uploaded anything in the past I could take a look at and gather some info. ( I am thinking youtube uploads and the like - Rapidshare )

- P.S. Found out that the trial has been cut to 30 sec. - And I think I have the hang of it now, so ... as always... Delete at will

Hi,
- I have gotten the full version of fraps today. Now I need some help to get a program that cuts down the filesize. I have been looking at VD - sorta "comes" with fraps ...but I am still having troubles compressing my files. Any on the HC that can help me out ?
- I should add that all I really want is to make some ingame videos/uploads for YouTube. Simple, but darnit if I can figure it out

EDIT if anyone has a better way of recording ingame movies etc. let me know.

i got some videos from fraps, i have:
1 Age of Mythology Titans
3 Heroes 5 Ghost of the Past

ok, first record your videos (i think you've done that), next go to start menu and find "windows movie maker" (or if you don't have it download it), here you can easily add your files, texts, songs, and whatever you want, good luck

Hi,
- I just tried to upload a video ( in windows media player ( the new one ) - 3:39 min - 512 x 384 ) and I got an "error:200" - Any clue ?
- Can't figure windows movie maker ... somehow I can't get it to ..well anything ( legal version and all ) ...?? - I am going for .avi format..thats okay , yeah ?
- note: all my videos are done with the free fraps version, so yours will be a lot better - Not Sure, Teddy. It works as it should be when I record and save the whole shabang( using the abovementioned programs ). So not really sure. ( ahh yes saving it in DivX format - that, for me makes the saving to .avi alot faster ).

i don't think it matters too much what format you save it as, as long you can play it in windows media player, then the video should work, not a clue what the error message is though i'll have your video in no time

Taksi is an open-source alternative to Fraps. I never tried it myself so I can't really tell you anything about it... you might want to give it a try.

- Thanks alot, Ted that helped me 1 step further lol I'm such a n00b, been struggeling with it for so long didn't even think to even search for a tutorial ON YouTube.. lol .
- Anyway, a bit off topic ( let's hope that Alc the deleter dosen't see this ) I have my first video uploaded to Youtube but..again I am struggeling ...what do I do at this screen : EDIT ... it's the screen where it shows your uploaded video and a URL / time and date ... account on the left and so on ... what do I do then ?
- should be thumbnail ... not sure ( again the n00biness comes to mind )
- I have some other questions about WmM but just wanna get this 1 one on the move.

Take 201  - When I make a search for my YT name it says no vidoes found / under that name. What do I have to get that to work .. I have just seen my crappy 1 tryout and it's ON YT but darnit if I can find it ...

Hi,
- Whenever I make a in-game movie ( or similar ) and then open it in WMM I get from 1 to xx clips ( saves - in .avi format ) ..and if I just drop them 1 by 1 on the timeline, rename it etc. it suddently wont work ?? Any ideas, Ted ..or anyone else ?

EDIT - I am actually capable of compressing files so when I view them in WMM I see ( say 9:59 min - say 40 mb .wmv )!
Could anyone please explain if its the time or the mb thats the general counter at YouTube ?
More Edit - Ted, drop me an IM ! Resolution is still like in fraps tryout ... doh I need some help with it .. FPS 30 - 20 or ?

fps is the Frames per Second, so 30 is better than 20, and 60 is best (it gives better graphics!)
the videos need to be below 10 minutes and no copyright laws should be broken otherwise they'll take it down, but that only happens when someone reports it

Hi,
- Thanks,Ted. I am currently working with both WMM and Vurtualdub, in the latter I am more FPS dependant than in WMM ( only need to choose the right upload speed and FPS option at the very end ) so thanks for clearing that up matey
- For anyone else in the know, well almost that is.... just use the 512 or higher option to save in WMM ( save as file NOT just save as project!! ) And remember to have your NASA comp resolution set to MAX 640x480 that should give you the best possible ( as far as I know ) resolution after uploading to YouTube.
@Pan - Can we have this one as an ongoing ( a few weeks more or so ) untill , atleast I get it right ? hehe
PP.S. - I am working from this hint I found ( luckily he was in the "neighboorhood"  ) 5.6 GB to 98 MB read more in the more listing like : here

- Anyone got an advice as to optimize the uploaded resolution on YouTube if one is playing a game which only has 800x600 as the smallest option ?
...does that mean VurtualDub ...or ? Any ( on topic help) would be appreciated

It should be fine if it is 800x600, because Youtube automatically resizes it, I think

Hi,
- Think I got it to work, still a bit blurry but I have found out that the fraps version I have aren't the newest and I lack a few codec's ( for VirtualDub ) - K-Lite anyone ??
- A question about YouTube in general. When I log in and search for my name I only get the first few videos I have uploaded , anyone knows why that is ? I know about the "15-24 hour" upload and live thing. It's just that it's been days now, and none of my later uploads shows when searching upon my name ...lill help here

I used to have this problem as well.
I do not actually know why Youtube does that, but after about a week or so, it should work, because there are lot's of videos being uploaded, and it does take time to come up on the search
But, are you searching in the correct categories and everything?

that happens to me sometimes, however mine last under an hour generally, and a day at most, so i guess its a bug, but have faith, your video will be up soon

You can find all the info in the Youtube FAQ.
The difference between Guru and Director is not much really, but I think you can have some custom backgrounds and what not.
You can change all this within your options.
I asked Youtube if I was able to have the ability to upload videos more then 10 minutes long, but apparently they stopped doing that for people, so that option was available last year sometime, but you are unable to do it now.
okay, how to change your background....
Go to My Account
Then go to Channel Design (Under Channel Settings)
Then there is all your options to change your Channel.
The option where you have to change it is under Advanced Channel Customization and is labeled Background Image (URL)
Hope that helps you.
EDIT: I found the information that you wnated about the differences with Guru Accounts and Director and everything, and this is taken from the Youtube Help:
