I think it should be noted that the big white collector's edition requires the H5 v1.5->1.6 UK/FR/DE/IT/SP Patch, instead of the (logical) H5 v1.5->1.6 UK/FR/DE/IT/SP Collector's Edition Patch.

Newest patches do not recognize my installation of Heroes V.

I bought and installed the retail 2-disk version of Heroes V Epic Collection. In-game main menus for each of the three games tell me I am playing Heroes V v.1.5, Hammers of Fate v.2.1, and Tribes of the East v.3.0.

I downloaded patch v.1.6 for Heroes V and patch v.3.1 for Tribes of the East. But when I try to install either patch I get this message: "Heroes of Might and Magic V is not installed. Patch cannot be applied."

What's happening?

I am running Vista 64-bit SP2.

Wrong version of the patch, it is a common issue. Check the patch list, it's in the masterpost.

Your reply was vague, Elvin. It did not tell me what patch version I needed. Did you expect me to use trial and error and try to install each patch version from that long list of available patches?

At least you pointed me in the right direction. Thank you.

It turns out that the Heroes V Epic Collection, which I bought from amazon.com here in the U.S., actually contains and installs the U.K. version of Heroes V. I downloaded the U.K. version of the 1.60 patch (but not the U.K. collectors' version), and it installed all right. After that, the v.3.10 patch for Tribes of the East also installed.

Whew!

I couldn't possibly know which your version was but as you saw it was easy to find You just know which you are looking for when you see the list.

You're right, Elvin. I apologize. I was peevish because of the trouble I had to go through to install the two patches. (I edited my preceding post, where I mistakenly referred to patches 1.06 and 3.01, instead of 1.60 and 3.10.)

I can't help thinking there are other Americans who, like me, bought the Epic Collection retail-box edition and have had trouble patching it because they didn't know they had the U.K. version of the game.

Thankfully I'm all patched up now, and the game is running perfectly on Windows Vista 64 SP2.

Yeah ubi had a messy patch policy, I've seen my share of disappointed or frustrated guys Good luck and enjoy the game. You may find some interesting things around the temple so don't be a stranger.

Suggestions for next patch

Thank you for the sentiment, Elvin.

I believe much community work has been put into Heroes V--message board posts, the colorful manual, mods, and maybe patches too--but of course no game is perfect. So far I have run into a couple of things that I think would be good for the next patch, if there is one.

1. One of the strengths about Heroes III is that once a hero has arrived at a destination, he can reenter it without using movement points. The player simply needs to hit the space bar. The absence of this feature is a source of annoyance for me in Heroes IV, and I can't help noticing its absence in Heroes V too. It's only logical that characters should not need to spend movements points for a place they have already moved to.

2. Commonly in campaign missions, one of the requirements is that one or more of your heroes must survive. Early in "The Fall of the King" (Mission 5 of the "The Queen" campaign), I was using Godric for logistics support, and he was running around with a weak army. An enemy hero caught him, and he had to retreat from combat. Then I got a mission-failure screen, requiring a reload. But Godric did not die. He only retreated. Retreat is survival. So I think this should be taken as a bug in the scripting of this mission and other missions requiring particular heroes to survive. Either the mission requirement should forbid the particular heroes from retreating, or they should be able to retreat without failing the mission.

That is not a failed script, it has been this way in all heroes campaigns with this objective. Otherwise you'd be able to just leave him in tavern, either way he is not meant to be defeated. Just because he is awesome I always liked it myself, makes the missions more challenging as it is always a battle for life or death.

I'd like a revisit option but that's hardly a serious issue, there is a lot more that would demand immediate attention. Not gonna happen though, Nival got the boot and there will be no more patches.

I did not get the "standalone" expansion so I have the basic HOMM V 1.06_us

Guys,
I just started playing TotE, and I have a question. I'm doing a 2v2 custom game with a computer ally, and he came to my island and took my gold and crystal mine right before I was going to get them myself. I need to get them back or else I can't build stuff as easily, I try and go to the mine and nothing happens. How can I get a mine from an ally?

Does anybody know why the Sylvan town´s main screen turns black at entering the town?
There are several players experiencing this problem.

I´ve got patch 1.6 so far and looking to upgrade the game to the expansions with my collector´s edition of ToE & HoF. Though I´d like the standard game to work properly before any installation of the addons.

Thanks if any help on this :-)

Didnt help... (manually checked that drivers are updated). I am running the game on XP3. The hardware should be sufficient.

Strange. Standard version of the game worked fine (no black shadows in the Sylvan town) on my old pc that has Vista. However the game runs much slower there so I prefer using the newer laptop with XP installed.

Anybody experiencing the same problem when running the Collector´s edition?

Okay I don't get this, I patch from 1.4 to 1.6 but my version in game is still 1.0. What is wrong here???

There's something that pisses me off about this patch : when you are with the Necromancy team,each time you enter your town the music restarts...so instead of continuing from the point it was,it beggins from zero again.

This might be also available on another factions,but I haven't checked it out.

How do you fix that?.
