Overcoming fears
Yet another off-topic thread.
Do you have some kind of fear (phobia)? Or did you use to? How did you overcome it (in case you have grown out of it)?

I'm afraid of term papers. I have actually gone through my entire high school tenure without writing one paper. Not to say that I can't write long works: I used to write fiction pieces that would run 15 pages. However, I've never been able to concentrate on one subject for much longer than a page or two. Second, my words just looked so...shallow and base and devoid of any original thought that I couldn't continue.

spiders scare the hell out of me. Just looking at one makes me shudder.
*shudder*
...or thinking about them!
I am also afraid of heights, but if you're in a situation where it matters, I pretty much must deal with it, or fall and die.
So I pretty much just try not thinking about the possibility that I could fall.
I do a lot of stupidly dangerous things involving high places... but I haven't fallen yet. However, I might freeze up if I look down. That sucks.

Hm... short?
I wouldn't call you like this, though I'm taller in RL than you.
My fears... I used to fear shots. The mere sight of syringes lead me to a nervous breakdown. Well, you can understand well that having to be stuffed with tranquilers before any shot. Especially when they go to your school and you have to go thru it FAST.
Needless to say, I had to find a way to overcome it. One day I woke up and I couldn't see. I was at the brink of losing my eyesight. Too bad. they told me I needed eyeshots immediately. Not in an hour, not in a minute. Immediately. I had no choice and no tranqulizers.
Since then I overcame my horror. And I'm telling you, when you see a needle crossing your eye, very few things can scare you. The scenes of Terry Goodkind, the massacres and such, can make you laugh. Every cloud has its silver lining.

...I used to be extremely aeroacrophobic several years ago, and then over time, it developed simply to be a kind of acrophobia...but two summers past (during the summer before last, if that's not how you say it) while I kinda toured around Europe with my uncle, aunt, cousin and brother, they dragged me to a bunch of really high places...especially in Paris, and eventually the Eifel Tower...well I don't know what happenned, but I guess after experiencing it so often, I kinda got used to it, and I'm generally no longer afraid of heights...except for those places, where you're on this kind of a flimsy seeming catwalk, rail thingy, where you can look down below your feet, through the holes and you see nearly nothing between you and the ground
...I guess I'll admit that I'm somewhat (just barely) caligynephobic, if that explains something to the rest of you...I'm not sure if this is the right term, but I guess what most describes me is being isolophobic...I guess I'm kinda...well not afraid, but uncomfortable not knowing anyone around me, dumped in a place where I am unfamiliar with, and having no way to contact anyone...or even worse, having nobody like me at all, in an all too familiar place..
...hehe, if I spelled this right, the word itself is an example of people who have hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia, hehe
...as I'm still afraid of heights a bit, I can understand the problem's of others...however, those who are panophobic have some serious problems...

Fears..
I start to believe you are some ability to read my mind, Milena.
Only few days ago I thought this same subject and thought making thread about it.
I have slight fear of heights but I can overcome that. I have climbed in pretty dangerous places and unless I stop there thinking I don't feel fear.
I said here in forum that I once being in surgery and when being sleeping I didn't know did I exist or not. That was moment of horror for me and after that I have really felt fear in that sense ever again.
I have these headaches now and then that are so powerful that I start to throw everything up. It's some sort of migraine but never got any medicine from doctor to it. I have learned to handle the pain and you start to use to it.
It's very releasing experience to overcome your fears. It can be difficult but you should do it. However there's no point torture yourself if you cannot face the fear.
