I didn't find anything about the Perks, however. My personal experience tells me it's far from an even random - special Perks appear way more often than normal Perks, once the prerequisites have been met. Did I overlook the particular file, or is it hard-coded?

We have different experiance on this matter.
Every time i have all the prerequisites to get Warlock's luck the game is desperately trying to insert me Dead man's curse for at least 3 more levels...

The lower right slot is the "special perk slot" (with some requirements besides the skill). The upper right is the "standard perk slot" (available as soon as you get the skill).
Usually, you have access to standard perks only, so the "special perk slot" falls back to a standard perk. Then, once you choose a standard perk, you unlock one (or a few) special perks, and one of them will appear in the "special perk slot". The fact that you have access to less of them makes them reappear more often.

This is mentioned in the manual ("Hero Development" chapter in the "Skills Advancement" section). I kept the explanation short there, but maybe it would require an illustrative screenshot.

You need to extract it from the data.pak file first. Editing it directly in the data.pak file doesn't work.

can a hero walk through the map without any troop? or can the troops walk through the map without any hero just like in heroes 4 might and magic?

Howeber, Heroes 5 is not among the supported formats, and they seem to have been inactive since 2005. H3 and H4 are supported though, so maybe if someone can get them to have a look...

No, but you can change the experience coef (there's a script function for that), and make heroes gain experience more or less quickly.

does hertoes 5 might and magic have the cheat or artifacts to allow troops to travel the map and guard castles without any hero and vice versa? because i really want independent troops and a garrison full of heroes only. please i beg you to reply and show me the links where i can find this.

No, an army in heroes 5 is exactly one hero and some troops. You can not have several heroes in one army, or one hero by himself without troops, or troops wandering without hero.

How can I change icons of the creatures(TotE)?  When I recolor Icons of old creatures it doesn't change(stays the same as it was before) and when I change TotE creatures icons I get corrupted icons. So how should I recolor them?

I'm trying to change one of fx sounds, Gremlin's shot sound exaclty.

I've figured out not the file path is responsible for it (in sound file; /Sound/_Sounds/Creature/Academy/Gremlin/rangeattack.xdb), but value inside <uid> tags. The value is name of sound file in soundsfx.pak/bin/Sounds folder.

When I just had replaced file with .wav and left its original name, all worked fine. When I change name of it it doesn't work. What do do? I don't wanna replace files, but add new!

@BigJocker: Without a sample of what you do, it's hard to tell you what you do wrong. Here are two ideas though:
- sometimes, the dds file itself in a mod is ignored by the game, in which case you need to put the .(Texture).xdb in your mod, and slightly change the name of the dds. I don't know if it applies to your case.
- if the icon is messed up, my guess is that you saved the dds as DXT3, not A8R8G8B8 like you should for the icons.

@Radar: I don't understand your problem. If you don't want to replace the existing sound, you give it another name, and change the uid accordingly in the xdb. What's wrong with that?

The case is, it doesn't work with different name from these ones in Sounds folder. It is just not played. Try yourself

I guess maybe there's somewhere list of allowed sounds?

Yes, I saved it as DXT3. I'll try A8R8G8B8. Thanx. I'll see if it will be ok.
