Morale - just how random is it?

Ok, everyone knows that if you restart a battle and do the same moves in the same order, you'll get morale at exactly the same times, so the rangom generator is not all that random.

Yesterday I was playing single player trying to kill lots of gold golems with harpy hags on week 1 on difficult terrain that made herding them properly impossible. So, once I realized that I can't herd them with 1 harpy while the big stack hits them, I switched my tactics to moving back & forth around the middle area hoping for morale.

While I did get 2 morales during the first few moves when I was hitting them, I never got it when I moved back & forth. So, I decided to continue to test it further and moved about 50 more times. The morale did not kick in. So, I figured that the moving pattern has to change. I made about 50 more moves in different squares and the morale still hasn't kicked in.

The only 2 reasonable explanations I can think of are:
1) Even though I changed the moving pattern slightly, I still didn't randomize the screen positioning enough to cause the random generator to give me morale.

2) Once a stack gets morale, it can not get it again until it does some damage. Or until a friendly stack does some damage. Or until any damage is done. Or until a spell is cast or some damage is done.

Either way, it would be interesting to hear your thoughts on that.

I believe its random. I have many times been moving back and forward in the same pattern 40 plus times and the moral will set in sooner or later.

I'm still testing other aspects of morale, but I've seen the hags get morale 5-6 times without attacking.

Not everyone knows this because I don't. I'm not 100% certain on this, but I'm pretty sure this is like a lot of other things in the game. It keeps repeating the same "random" event, but if you do it enough times it will eventually break out of the cycle.

I've heard this same thing about month of plague. That once you get it, you can't get rid of it. But that's not true. You just have to be persistent.

As far as i know it is like Binabik says ...if you repeat a fight moral will come at the same occasions.

Interesting point is that maybe there will be no moral after a certain round...maybe.

That's not what I said. I said it will do the same thing each time, but if you restart enough times, it will do something different.

Here's another thing though. Does anyone think morale depends on how strong or weak the armies are? For example do you think a very strong army fighting a weak army will get morale more often?

Or is the opposite true? If you have a weak army with negative morale, and you fight a strong army, are you more likely to freeze?

Same opinion as Binabik. You have many chances that the morale will be the same, but if you re-load many times, then the chain breaks.
As a sidenote, perhaps one of the re-loads changes the sequence earlier, but the fight doesn't last long enough to realize it.

But certainly I agree with you. The random generator is faulty.

That might be true as well.

i bet things are not so easy. i also saw situations where moral suddenly was "switched off" till i do some damage. imho it happens if few turns (maybe 3?) are skipped without making any damage. most often - when i fly with my 1-2 angels inside full dwarf treasury. so i could fly 50-100 times not making damage and not getting moral while when i do damage, then moral comes each of 3 turns
