Euro Championship 2008 (football, "soccer")
So the qualifyings are done....and one big surprise has occured:
ENGLAND WILL NOT PARTICIPATE
Such a great football nation...hugh tradition...great players (but no TEAM!)...but had to give Croatia and Russia the lead in their qualifying group.
I remember a similar story happened to FRANCE in 1990 / 1994, when they couldn't qualify for the WC...but then their revenge came 1998, when the became worldchampion.
So what has to be done to the english team to make them strong again? The coach was fired right after the last game vs Croatia (2-3). Who would be a good coach for them? An italian (Capello, Lippi), a german (Klinsman, Schuster), or who else?

And the nightmare goes on....
Drawing for WC 2010 qualifying groups has brought up ENGLAND and CROATIA again in same group!!!

And Israel was also the main cause that France didn't qualify in 94 with a 3:2 win in Paris.
World cup: Luck is on our side Israel been drafted in what seems the easiest group for us with Greece as the 1st seeded (personal lol) and Switzerland as 3rd

Now if we won't qualify this time then we won't ever again

Watch out for Switzerland and their neutral style! And even if you win, they might get pissed and close your bank account

Finland was ah so close to qualifying but alas, up came the bloody portugese and ruined it for us.
And england didn't get in either. That's it. The part of me that actually cares about football is going to go hang itself now.

and ofcourse The Netherlands has qualified for the EC2008, although i think they're not going to make a good chance. they also have got players with decent skill, but no team. the proof of that is their last match against Belarus.
also such a pity that Hungary and Estonia didn't qualify, what do you think?

I personally think that Dutch just made a picknick match this time. They knew they won't get #1 in the group, they were sure of #2 and qualification. Yet a loss could benefit them - they could fall into 3 box (I dunno whether they did).

And yeah, I was all for Finnland qualifying in Lisbona. You've taken 5 points of ours away . You are a worthy adversary. Portugal did only 2.

Despite playing their worst game in the qualifiers, that 1:0 win earned them a 1 point difference over England, which England could not beat. End of story.
Russia has many young promising players. They didn't bother preparing too much before the game in Andorra and they were a bit out of shape because the Russian cup finished some time ago and the weather in Russia right now is well... not very footballish.
However, by summer 2008 Russian players will get back in shape and also, Gus Hidding will be given 2-3 weeks to train them, so by the time they'll get to Eurocup, they'll be in their best shape and also very good as a team. Then we'll see if they deserve to be in Euro or not.

well, Romania has qualified but I don't have great expectations from them, I'll be surprised if they pass the group stage

We played even with Poland and everyone was like WHAAT?
Then we played even with Portugal and everyone was even more WHAAAAT?
Then we lost to Azerbaidjan and quess how everyone was? Nothing new.
When we get to the best position we can we allways screw up. Czech game a few years back anyone?
Gotta love seeing England drop out and Scotland going in though.
