Rock Band
I saw this thing a few days ago, and I don't know what to think.
It's obviously a Guitar Hero ripoff, except it's sponsored by Fender instead of Gibson which is sort of a corporate showdown.
The only real difference is that instead of just being able to play guitar and bass, you have guitar, drums, bass and a microphone (?!).
I mean WTF? If you have a bassist, a singer, a guitarist and a drummer, make a real band, don't throw your cash and time on a video game...
But I guess it could be fun, if made properly and with good enough songs. The microphone is still unclear to me though.
How are you supposed to be able to have a voice that fits all the songs on the list? And if you don't (and I really don't know of a person who does  ) it will sound like crap.
So, like I said, I don't know what to think...

It all just looks like a fancy Dance Dance Revolution to me..
Having said that... while Fender is much better than Gibson, the fact that Guitar Hero has Tom Morello is an instant win for me.
I considered buying it just for that..
Seriously, though, I did.

You can't compare them... That depends fully on your style of playing (not the game, real guitar). Provided you haven't said that just cause you prefer how Fender guitars look. You must try both before judging (and even then, it is purely subjective. Some people prefer Fender, others Gibson).
I've never played a Gibson so I don't know. I stick to my Fender Stratocaster copy. But Angus Young, Slash etcetera taken into account, it is certainly also a good choice.

There are some nice Gibsons out there.
I'm not a big fan of Les Paul at all really, though. They are nice to play but I find them really heavy which is pretty annoying (I doubt it would be a problem if you owned the guitar though) and I don't like the look of them at all 
But if Les Paul is the Gibson angel then the SG is the devil 
Plain white SG
Entirely metallic silver SG
Though I find the Stratocaster to be more versatile in playing style and it's classic look can be pretty well adapted and that's most of the reason why I chose my Strat because I'm not ready to stick to one thing just yet
I'm yet to come across a situation where I'm kind of saying, well, I wish I had a different guitar to play this.
Except for EVERY Muse song, that Manson guitar is just awesome
Oh, and Knights of Cydonia is in Guitar Hero as well.
But seriously, Tom Morello is the best guitarist ever (ooh controversy Santana, Knophler, Hendrix, Clapton..). Even Muse's Matt Bellamy knows this
And I'm a Velvet Revolver fan so Slash is cool as well.
And the Halo Theme Song is on the 360 as well hahaha

Rock Band is a sick game.
Seriously, the drums are freakiing awesome, hard as hell, and are EXACTLY like real drums. if you can play hard/expert drums, you can play real drums.
The mic catches the pitch of the notes, and has something that notices constanants and vowels, it is just a really good game.
The only downside is the guitar is much easier than guitar hero 3{not a bad thing for some}
Honestly, the best party game ever, and one of the best overall games of the year, beaten only by Call of Duty 4 and possibly Bioshock/Mass Effect.

Oh God please don't talk about this damn game. I had to sit through a two hour long meeting today about the assembly of these games since we are moving them to a different factory. I have to go visit the main facility tomorrow to see how they put it together and to find out why they aren't going to meet the December 18th ship date. We've got Game Stop (a video game store) on our asses trying to find out when they'll get their shipment. This game has been hell. Not to mention the company that makes it (EA) are some of the most picky clients I have ever had to deal with. Everything has to be perfect with them.
Now, whoever said it's a Guitar Hero Rip-off is kinda right but not really. Red Octane, the company that makes Guitar Hero was actually made by EA but they recently seperated due to the popularity of the game so EA not wanting to loose all the Guitar Hero money decided to one up them and make Rock Band. The idea is to stray away from single player games and start getting more people playng which is why there are so many pieces to the $170 set.

They separated because Activision bought Red Octane. After that, MTV Games picked up Harmonix to make this game, and opinions of games shouldn't have to do with your work.

Wait Tom Morello is featured in Guitar Hero? Well what a surprise, I guess it's because I never played the game but still... and somehow it's a let down for me. But still Tom is one of the best ever and certainly the best in the past 15 years.

Not sure if theres a guitar hero thread but been playing Guitar Hero 3 its much more fun than I thought.... gone onto Hard mode now
It's a bit cheesy and could have been done better in most areas but the actual gameplay is fine which is the only thing that even remotely matters in this game.
Only complaint is they should be releasing like a constant stream of new songs...
Audioslave songs
more RHCP songs
more Muse songs
more Killers songs
As for Rock Band I totally agree with you... if you have someone who can play all of those things spend a similar amount of money () on REAL equipment lol...

I don't mean to offend anyone, but you really have to be dumb to play that game. I mean for crying out loud, spend the cash you would buying the damn thing on a rusty old guitar and really learn to play. No, you don't have to be Hendrix, you can just do your own thing and it will be a whole lot better. I'd rather know and play 3 three chord folk songs all my life than waste my time with that game.
