UPGRADING UNITS

Hey,people!!!
What do u think of a new way of upgrading units in HOMM4:
-can be upgraded to magical/warrior units or good/bad units
-they also should be upgraded not once but three or four times so they get stronger and stronger.

Upgrades!

Hey Mystique!

I think that there should be many avenues of creature upgrading, and not all of them should be linear. It's very easy to say 'I want the next creature upgrade', but what happens if you have 2 upgrades to choose from? skeleton warriors with greater defence or skeleton warriors with greater attack? Archers with greater range or greater damage abilities? Behemoth upgrades that give you a choice between increating speed/damage/attack/or defence levels... Now there's an idea

Mutli upgrades

That probaly be the best thing.. Having be able to choose how you want your troops. Also maybe have a technology line? You know, technology has to be good enough for you to mass produce golems. So things like lvl 7 creatures wouldn't be able to be bought till week 2 or 3.

Hello guys...
The thing that you are discussing here is already mentioned in some of the other posts. The idea is like this: When you try to upgrade the unit you have to choose between the two different units, one of them is ranged attacker and the other one is walking tank. I think that this kind of upgrading will give us more strategy planing, so you can choose are you going to wipe up the enemy from the distance or hand to hand combat.....

This is already discussed in the "Creature Experience (Just another wish eh...)" thread, and maybe units should have multiple lines of evolution but that would take more creativity and its kinda hard to invent more units for all of the towns and especially the Polaris,Astral,Egypt and Yamato towns, but maybe it could go like this:
            1
           / \
          2   2
           \ /
            3
            |
            4

That two lines eventually become one, this would make it simpler.

Why only upgrade units in two ways:shooting and fighting???
It would be much more interesting to upgrade units like this, for example:fighters, archers, mages,or even give secondary skills to creatures.

Evolutions shouldn't be so complex.
There should be more levels of evolution, and there could be a shooter-fighter split in some levels of evolution at certain creatures which will eventually combine into one line again.

This idea is duscussed a long time in the "Creaure experience (Just another wish eh...)" thread.

Why do people post new threads without checking if the idea was mentioned before!?

Multi upgrades

First of all, creatures should not evolve to good/evil. This is determined by the town type. Second, I think Mystery's idea about the lines reconnecting is not so good.

Mysique's idea is more like it. You should be able to evolve creatures into better attackers, defenders, more magic resistance, additional spells and so on.

Surely, creature experience can work in conjunction with this, can't it, Mystery?

It can conjuct but there shouldn't be too many paths, and lines should reconnect because 3DO won't draw so much graphics and won't come up with more ideas for about twice as more units, think about it, and if it will exist, the decision should be made randomly.

re: new post lines

methinks the people who start the new post lines and threads don't read and check every other one that exists because there are so many of them that it could seem daunting and they want to put their ideas down as they get them, instead of reading every single thread that already exists (which some are at least 5 pages long!!)

Upgrading Strategy

Taking a look at some of the upgrading ideas in this thread gets me to thinking.  It is true that although multi-level upgrades is ideal, as is customizing, but we don't want it to become too complicated.  What we could always do is keep a basic multi-level upgrade for some units (see diagram a: for details) like the units that wouldn't separate (like wolves, rocs, griffons, etc.) while having a divergent upgrading for other unit types (see diagram b: for details).

a:  1                     b:  1
   |                        / \
   2                       2a  2b
   |                       |   |
   3                       3a  3b

Certain creatures would be able to specialize, like the elf for instance (for example):

1. Elven Warrior - Basic infantry with a sword
2a. Elven Archer - Same as in HOMM3
3a. Grand Elf - Same as in HOMM3
2b. Pegasi - basic cavalry unit, same as HOMM3
3b. Silver Pegasi - advanced calvary unit, same as HOMM3

However, there are certain creatures that are just that: creatures.  They can't really specialize particularly.  For this, we'll use the griffon:

1. Griffon - basic griffon, same as HOMM3
2. Royal Griffon - same as HOMM3
3. Imperial Griffon - Some form of upgraded griffon... faster, stronger, etc.

What do you think of this idea?

GROWTH OF CREATURES

I have recently thought about very good units such as Azure Dragons.Shouldn't they grow not once a week but once in two or three weeks? In this way they can be built in a town but they won't make the player who owns them too strong.

Great idea!

Sounds really good.. .I've been thinking what's the fun and use in having mighty monsters like azure dragons if they are to be weakened.. Then they would just be "dragons of another color"... Your idea solves this little problem.. Thanks!

Excellent!

I like that idea for the limited growth...  I think it might be more evenly distributed if it was once a month, though. (I for one could find myself numbering the weeks between and forgetting which week gets the creature and which does not, then eventually becoming frustrated with the whole process...)  So, I'm for either once every two weeks or once every month (to distribute the creature without making the timing too difficult...)

Cool

Yes, that would be cool, because then I'd still could have the MIGHTY AZURE DRAGON but it should be only one, and once a week (the other ones have 2) and it shouldnt be affected by the grail so that its always 1 each week, or maybe less drequently but then it would be affected by grail.

Azure Dragon

If the rate of growth i 1/month, resources would be much better spent on other creatures/structures. Think about it: First you have to get the Dragon dwellig fully upgraded, which will cost lots of bucks. Then, you must pay God knows how much gold and maybe 30 mercury (or whatever) to get 1 (ONE) dragon that takes up one of a hero's army spaces. I say the slowest growth shold be 1/2 weeks, and the cost must be reduced a lot. Whatcha think?

I think the bas unit should be the same but the upgrade should have a choice of either a stronger walking unit of a weaker flying or shooting unit. Each unit would vary in type. I think you should have a choice of what type of castle you want. Either level 5 magic with weaker walls or stronger moat and walls with only level 4 magic.

As we all know one Azure Dragon is able to defeat about 5 Black Dragons. If Azure Dragon was an easy unit to build, the game would be pointless. So if a player wanted to command Azure Dragons,he would have to spend a lot of resources and gold on their dwellings (I hope there will be more levels of each town's creatures, maybe 10).SO the level10 creatures should be VERY VERY VERY powerful and VERY VERY VERY expensive and the player shouldn't own too many of them.
I also think there shouldn't be their dwellings on the map cause the player would be able to buy them without the necessity of building their dwelling in the castle.
