The 'cool' and 'not-so-cool' creatures of hommv
The following are my impressions on how 'cool' or 'uncool' a creature is in HommV.
Cool
Haven
Crossbowman - anyone think they look like zorro?
Squire/Vincidcator - nothing much, just some really good armour and weapons
Inquisitor - calling some random energy from the sky is a nice way of attacking, though i never understand why such attack doesn't have a 'no range penalty'
Paladin/Champion - putting squire/vindicator on a well-dressed horse and you get this baby
Angel - The only coolness of an angel is the way it dies: ascending into heaven is a classy way to exit the battlefield. Plus, I find that the Archangel/Seraph sword of burning blue fire really cool, though the angel makes it appear full bulky when it strikes its enemy. Second - are the angels girls with a boyish look? Or boys that have got a pretty face?
Inferno
All 1st upgrade except cerberus - having fire burning in your body and not dying from it definitely fits into the description of cool
Succubus and upg - by themselves they're not that cool, but I find their attack and victory really good
Pit Lord - just by flexing your body (at least it looks like what a pit lord does when he casts spell) and a huge fireball will come out from your chest and blasts anything in its way = way cool
Devil and upg - the complex teleportation animation, it is way better than the vampire one imo
Dungeon
Scouts and upg - Assassins are always considered to be the coolest profession
Dark Raider and upg - what can I say, men riding dinosaurs to battle are cool
Shadow Matriach - just look at how elegant she walks! And when you think: a woman walking this fine can't do much harm then, wham! a whip in your face killing your entire stack. Plus, she doesn't wear much
Academy
There aren't much coolness in this town, but it doesn't fall into the category of disaster (just barely)
Sylvan
War Dancer - has anyone got the chance to witness the entire war dance combo? I have seen the first few moves and they look really good! But I never understand why they scream like a girl
Stronghold
I think they're overall cool (better than the greenish orc in hoom3 in my opinion) but two particular units deserve mentioning:
Cyclops and Goblin - they make the best partners, just especially when a cyclop throws a goblin into an enemy stack - whack - the goblin's body exploded into 5~6 pieces of limbs. And the bloodeye cyclop by itself - bzzzzzzzz - laser eye
Fortress
Ha!
Necropolis
The King of coolness. What more can I ask about creatures with greenish lights flashing in their eyes and skulls?
But as always, some creatures are more equal than others...
Vampire and upg - the way they stand and their swords! yet sometimes i prefer the old nosferatu vampire in homm3. their moving animation can sure be improved - perhaps spawning into a horde of bats is a good one (like homm3)
Lich and upg - the King of kings. I have yet to see anythg cooler than a lich! The way they stand, the way they attack, the way they retaliate, and the way they die, the whole thing is just screaming 'confidence'. Look, I don't even need hands to beat you sissies! And their portraits! Can things can cooler than a badass skull wearing a badass helmet? Never!
Wight and upg - there is some coolness in these grim reapers death
Uncool
Haven
Peasant and upg - what can I say? they're just fat
Cavalier - their portraits look like peasants
Inferno
The way they die - demons need a more flamboyant way to exit this world
Dungeon
Shadow Mistress - errr is it only me? or does she look like an idol for some sado-masochism fetish. Fish-net? Although the fiery whip is good it doesn't save her from the uncool list. And the portrait! It looks like she just got dumped and is out to seek revenge (and by dressing like that, no wonder) Bad taste overall
Sylvan
Nothing uncool about them, though they're not outstandingly cool
Academy
Stone gargoyle - what can i say? tombstone? i want humanoid bat not tombstone to fight in my army!
Titan and upg - Curl up and die will ya? And what about the attack? A softy kick? Oh yeah, they can't raise they legs too high (somebody tell them to wear a pants) homm3 titan is much much better with their gigantic lightning edge and can 'throw' lightning
Fortress
The entire town - there is just somethg uncool about a bunch of undergrowed men with overgrown beard in oversized armours. And the lava dragons! They look more like Godzilla than dragons.

Titans doesnt need to raise their legs so high otherwise they could kick above target(they al.rdy kicks dancers to face)

I agree with you on a lot of these, but there are some I disagree with.
->Titans and Storm Titans are awesome, especially when you have the dynamic camera on and they attack at range. Their melee attack however, should be better. If you get kicked in the face by a giant man, I'd think you would get knocked backward a little it.
->Rakshasas. All of them are cool. I mean, what not cool about big lion people with swords?
->I'd think that at least the fire dragon and company would get some credit for coolness. The fire dragon because he's always got fire bursting off him. And magma and lava because of their rock armour.
->Treants=major uncoolness, however, beta treants are one of the most awesome creatures on the game.

Pretty much agreed  Other things I love is the way assassins/stalkers attack, the sound and animation is sweet  The way the vamps die is pretty cool too. The teleportation from the thanes and their stormstrike. The shamans' and furies' dagger animations Man that multiple slashing from the earth daughters and the following curse is satisfying.
Titans' death looks bad but otherwise model, movement, feel are solid. And don't tell me you don't like rakshasa rajas! (Unless you are a naga fan )

I like the way Wights/Wraiths die. That flat silhouette thing is straight out of Blair Witch Project.
Titans are great except for the lackluster melee animation. Would be kinda cool if they did a WWE punch (stomp the ground and hammer the fist down on your head at the same time).

Oh yeah, I just remembered some more.
->every inferno creature (or at least the firey ones) should burst into flames and leave a pile of ash when they die. This would increase their coolness factor and give you even more reason to defeat them.
->Pit Lords are one of the coolest creatures even created! Thats why I made my avatar one. Not much is cooler than a big demon with a firey head, a large set of bones where wing could be and a giant sword made out of a chuck of metal and to top it all off, they can hurl fireballs and call down meteors. Now that is cool.
->Inquisitor..not cool. Beta inquisitor is super cool. He's got a bald head and a big war hammer.

I have good and bad comments. Which one first? Good? Okay, you completmented the Liches. Good, you know their power. The bad? You insulted the Fortress Faction. Now i'll have to melt you down and turn you into a sword. The fortress looks, well, Dwarven. I think you just don't like Dwarves. After all, the Fire/Magma/Lava Drags don't look all that bad. Except for the fact they mixed up the description with the magma and lava. And the Thanes! They look like you don't ever want them drunk.

Except the tier7 Godzilla, they're all too... well... dwarvish
I mean Haven is not all human, Dungeon is not all dark elves (what a pity,it's the only faction that I actually hope they will have more units from the main race. Why? go figure) Even the demons have dogs and horses

Fortress rocks! tier1: what more do you need, small guy big beard! tier2: Gooood, people with spear or a harpoon. Tier 3: A BEAR FOR GOD SAKE love it! Tier 4: A crazy ass with a beard! Yes sir. Tier 5: Okay a fat guy with a staff, ahh what the hell if you take the good one you get fireball! Tier 6: A HUGE GIANT WITH A MONTROUS AXE!! Love it!
Tier 7: A dragon, fire dragons looks dull, but then Magma! A solid dragon with great looks! The lava sucks a bit, but more lizard like. They are good!

the fire dragon makes me hungry really
he looks like something tasty
but not the lava and magma
anyway, what the hell is a snowy place with lava in the button in a giant round hole and a magma and fire and lava dragon in..a snowy place?!
that's just too weird
i only like the bear rider, thane and the dragon
but it's annoying to see only dwarves..it makes the game boring

And did someone seriously had to ask why elves scream like girls? That's like asking why girls scream like girls.
Y'know, they might as well have named the Thanes as Fire Giants and Frost Giants. H5's Fortress is based on the Dvergar (dwarves, Norse myth) anyways. Cuz no way those dudes are dwarves. The idea that dwarves war with dark elves also came from Norse myth, not from AD&D.

The reason the liches have the cone shaped dress is that they are wearing multiple layers of robes. And it gives a nice sprawling effect, making them look bigger than they are.
Second of all, its not the wardancers that scream like girls, its the bladedancers. I've always wondered why they were...prepubescent.
