Tutorial for editing textures in GIMP

First part:
Download latest version of GIMP from http://www.gimp.org/

Then download dds.plugin from
http://www.speedyshare.com/851192401.html
http://www.mediafire.com/?dcbsm1dnthb
Put the files in Gimp's plugins folder.

Then download 7-zip for opening the data.pak(or use some another programm) http://www.7-zip.org/

Second part:
Open the data.pak with 7-zip:

Now you are in the data.pak

Then choose folder Characters/Creatures/Faction/
I'm now in Inferno folder and I chose AlternativeUpgrade folder.
Now copy the texture you want to edit

NOTE: Unupgraded and the first upgrades' texures are in the Textures folder of the data.pak.

Third part:
Open GIMP and then open the texture you copied.
Then make selections of the areas you want to edit

Then you can esily edit the parts with color tools and many other nice tools.

Fourth part:
Then you zip the textures and rename the zip into h5u.
When you make the h5u.file, make sure you have all the same folders inside it that you copied the texture from. For example in this case Characters/Creatures/Inferno/AlternativeUpgrade

Hope this helped.

Download the plugin from this link:
http://www.speedyshare.com/851192401.html
In my computer I put the plugin here:
F:\GIMP\GIMP-2.0\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins
So search the plugin folder and put the files there.

Why not? It's free, easy to use and easy to get and install and there are many plugins for it and if you know how to use Paint Shop Pro(I have used it at school) you will know how to use Gimp.

Can someone please explain how to do transparencies (like making rocks look like diamonds)? I'm having a problem with one of my textures (Crystal Dragon) and need help doing just that.

Erase the rocks then change the paint brush's settings  so that it is 50%  transparent and paint on the erased rocks.
