my most hated faction list top 8.

1. academy. they suck. they just suck. and those new elemental gargyoles are like suicide bombers.

2. inferno. they are quite good in the begining of a game but when the opponents come and attack you you realise that the inferno faction is the worst of defending a castle.

3. Haven. they are the most boring to play but the training skill is quite good so they end up on third place.

4. necropolis. they are the weakest creatures and i hate the new DE points so now you can't raise how many creatures you want.

5. fortress. they copy other skills with teir runes so i don't like em but they got good defense so they are not on the top three.

6. stronghold. i don't like that they separate themself from the game. it is like playing an whole new game and that isn't why you bought ToE.

7. sylvan. most say that they suck but i think they are good and i like the lineup and the new crystal dragons. and y'know you must have elfes in a might and magic game.

8. dungeon. the creatures are good and the spells are just awesome. the only thing is the low growth.

that was it from me. see you next time.

i don't hate any faction in this game. they are all enjoyable in their own way and playing them doesn't give me anykind of hating feeling

however if i have to say my least favoured faction, it would probably be Inferno. they just don't suit for me, them and the style of playing you do with them. not to mention they are still from what ive understood, pretty dependant on one or two heroes.(can't know for sure since i don't play them)

For me, it's Fortress. I know, they're powerful at endgame, but 12 bear rider doing 61 damage to lvl1 creature via expert attack, and 150+ skirmishers killing 3-4 arcane archers was more than enough for me. I'd rather send my troops into melee and let them die from 2 attacks (thus decimating enemy army) than waiting endlessly with creatures that never die nor kill a single stack.

I do like Barbs, it seems they have an ok early & lategame potential, and I think the're pretty well balanced. I also don't have problems with creatures' design, in homm5, I even like the gargoyles .

So what I absolutely hate is fortress.

Uh huh. And what do you think cyclopses are? Ok maybe it should look more humanoid but a game has the freedom of lore

Freedom of lore is one thing, but even then there are limits to that freedom Give it two eyes, and they would have called it a fricking Behemoth.

- The fact they have completely unique skills suchas shout and shatter magic is plain wrong. It puts them on an elevated, special cushioned seat from which they can look down upon all the other factions who are bound in the same system. It's like making a completely new set of gameplay rules for a single faction - whatever limits and balances had been set for the first 6 races and to some extent Fortress, don't apply to Stronghold.

Right and why is that necessarily bad? There is more strategy in overcoming them with the usual tactics. Besides shout is the equivalent of sorcery and shatter a counter instead of use of magic. I think it's fair enough.

The question is: WHY does STRONGHOLD of all factions deserve these unique skills, and why don't the others?

It's like this: Stronghold is a faction aiming FAR more at might than Magic. So, here's balance:

Average faction: 50 might, 50 magic.
Stronghold:  99 might, 1 magic.

If you give Stronghold 90%+ statpoints in Attack and Defense, and 90%+ of being offered might skills, you get a faction who is superior in might while leaving a balanced weakness to magic.

What Tote does, is give Stronghold this superiority in might, while at the same time making them the best at shattering magic!

Sure you can end up losing if you happen to have to have chosen the wrong shatter skill, but it becomes more a guessing game.

Random orc warrior: "Wut? Balance? Weakness? wat dat?"

Shatter is still 5% and a part of uncertainly, possible waste of levels. That will only help you in a hero fight. Accurate guessing IS part of strategy.

That still does not validate the fact Stronghold is the only race who can get these skills. Being more might focussed than magic is one thing, twisting entire magic skills into MIGHT skills, is another.

I think you have it backwards.  The problem with ToE is that it took race unique skills and made them accessible to everyone...not that some factions have racially unique skills.

I thought the problem against stronghold wasn't magic effects but the rage damage reduction thing?

My least favorite are Inferno and Necro.  Tedious and boring.

I don't mind as long as they are balanced in one way or another. Be it low chance to get, high chance that it may not work, have better skills accessible etc. Why is necro boring? I kinda like the dark/summoning variety

what about Fortress? they are more, 50Runes, 20 Might, 30magic or something?

They really need runes to boost troops, like stronghold needs Bloodrage, Fortress needs magic to boost their troops again or dmg their foes and after the boosting they got there might back! Just like stronghold, except they have no magic, they need Bloodrage to boost their troops and then they kick ass.

In order of proper disgust...

1) Stronghold - No magic = no fun.
2) Dungeon - Xenophobic madwomen in scanty clothing is not exactly what I would focus on. Their creatures are disappointing.
3) Sylvan - Almost as bad as their grotto cousins. Don't like their overpoweredness.
4) Haven - Uggh, followers of light
5) Academy - Kinda like em, but not enough wizardy genius.
6) Inferno - I like the fires, and the demons.
7) Fortress - Little bearded men that take down dragons makes me feel berserkergang-ish.
8) Necropolis - Long live (or die) the Necropolis Liches rule (pun)

I don't get whatsup with all the Stronghold hating going on! And if you didn't buy TOE for the new race, why did you buy it?? Would you have prefered just another race with different units that could cast the same spells?

I think Stronghold is awesome because of it's completely unique and original concept, a town that's 97% might and  almost no magic abilites! As a matter of fact, its the MAIN (and posssibly ONLY) reason I even got into Heroes V!! I mean, aside from pretty graphics and awesome skill system...there's not much that makes HommV a new or different game than Heroes 3.

Also, a note about the Cyclops thing...of course if you give it two eyes, it's something completely different, but guess what, if you give any version of Cyclops 2 eyes, it's something completely different. How would this not apply to any version of Cyclops? If it was more humanoid it would just be a giant or ogre.

I don't know a lot about the balance of stronghold, but I find it ironic that people thing bloodrage makes them overpowered, but then they are terrrible without it. So they need it to be good, but now they're overpowered and "above all the other races on a cushy pedestal"....despite the fact they can't cast magic at all.

Anyways, back on topic...I would say Haven or Inferno and possibley Necro.
1.Haven is pretty boring and doesn't seem to have much that's unique about it. Aside from "switching" troops to better tiers. Also, I hate the peasant's design. Have you ever noticed the wrist only comes down to the middle of their chest and their hands are gigantic (practically as big as the rest of the arm) Otherwise

2.Inferno is just to evil and demonic for my tastes, but I'll admit the units are a lot more appealing in design and appearance than the Inferno from H3.

3.Necro is cool because you never lose troops and raising dead is awesome, but the town is just too dreary and grey and monotone for me. I also severly dislike the bloated zombies with flies all over them...makes me kinda nauseous after awhile.

4. Academy is right in the middle for me, some poor creature design..but I don't get why people call it "childish". When I think "childish, I think of happy ponies and elves and faeries (like childhood bedtime stories, right?) what's childish about a Storm Titans bristling with electric energy and Fireball casting mages with piercing, glowing blue eyes?

The remaining factions are almost tied for my favorite (but right now, I'm focusing on Stronghold, since they're pretty unique and different).
I do want to make a note about dungeon. I like their creatures that managed to survive from H3 (mostly Minotaurs and Hydras), but the thing I dont' like is their almost all useless in creeping. Personally, I like to actually use my creatures and their unique abilities as part of my strategic battles, with some casting for support.
But whenever I play Dungeon, the scenario is like this.
Take 4 stacks of 1 stalker into battle, go invis..wait...wait...wait...wait...(or defend), like 10 times before my heroe's turn comes around...then rinse and repeat until Finally the hero casts enough spells to kill everything. Then it seems like I run out of mana every other day, so I gotta hope there's a mana well nearby. But again, I'm sure I'm just not used to them, and I'm probably not playing them as effiecently as I could be.

First, what does righteous have to do with not liking Necros overall color theme? It just reminds of a yucky cloudy day (like we get in my state a lot) with all the greys, white and black. I'm also not extremely fond of the creatures, but I think it's mostly the obese rotting zombie with giant peasant hands that bugs me. Like I said, the I like some stuff about it, like gaining more troops after battle (talk about recycling...see Necros are all about helping Mother Earth, just like the Elves). I like Vampires and Spectral Dragons and Banshees and such...but sometimes I just get bored with the overall color scheme...grey, rotting undead type creatures.

Alright, secondly....why would you assume that Haven is a righteous, "Follower of the light" town? They can be just as evil and corrupt(or moreso) then anyone, can't they?
I've always thought of humans as being like water; Adaptable, and the potential to be good and pure, but also very  easily tainted and corrupted...depending on it's "influences".

Also, who said Necro was evil? I know they hate demons...so that means they can't be too bad..and like I said before they're all about recycling and reusing (Asha uses all), so again...tree...err Corpse- huggers, similiar to the elves (except that nobody else thought of recycling humans).

Anyways. I think I'll give every town a chance, I don't hate any of them, I just like some more than others, mostly based on cool, variety  of creatures or playstyles I like. I'm mostly a fan of mixed, menagrie of  monsters from lore (like Hydras, Wyverns, Minotaurs, Dragons, Cyclops, Goblins, reptile creatures)

What faction do you hate most?

And most important, why?

Necropolis

1) No powerful creeping unit
Yeah, Skeli-archers are nice... but they are a wee bit slow and fragile, and you really need to mass them... and with the change to the Necromancy-skill, you need to kill ranged creeps to boost them, which hurts.

2) Zombies
Sorry, never liked this unit.

3) No jump-starting
You can't skip early creature dwellings, in order to reach high tier buildings. T2 and T3 are pre-requisite for too important buildings.

4) Ore and Mercury
Everything costs Ore and Mercury, leaving you broke when other towns are getting the T7 dwelling.

5) Magic town with no knowledge
Sure, Dungeon also share this trait... but there you have +1 Knowledge from the structure, and artifact-vendor that can help you out... not to mention, there makes a lot more of sense that Dungeon focus on Spellpower with its focus on Summon and Destruction. Spellpower is not that stellar for Dark Magic.

While I play them I must admit Dungeon is boring. They can only really be played one way and that makes them boring. Nevertheless I voted for Haven cuz they have ridiculous damage potential. They are very user friendly which means most anyone playing them will be annoying and difficult. My least favorite army to face. And this is coming from a Dungeon player. I actually don't mind Academy as much as Haven. It's weird.
