Just to join the action with a thought.
I play cause its fun. Incredibly fun. So I`ll continue to do that regardless of systems, but anyway, what I would love is for the activity to rise. As many people have mentioned, we get new people every day joining the msn list. It would be really cool to start afresh, I`d love to be down at a 1 000 points again, easier to battle new players, we`re all at "the same level" etc, and it is probably 10 times more motivating for the newbies that now are not voicing their opinion here to any real extent.
I do not know the history of ToH before H5 (good thing, at least then i managed to finish my education and get a good job )
What am I really saying? All changes are good changes at this point, but top priority must be to get the new players "in".

Words of wisdom from Fraudatio right there. If you want the tournament to be active and successful there has got to be a way to make the new players actually be able to play.

What i notice here is that good players have 2 different goals when playing newbies.
First goal would be a challenge - which can be achieved by handicapping yourself for the sake of competitive game. Better player taking random town and heroes is just an example. It makes the game more fun for both sides.
Second goal is to get up their rating. Which means they will play the best they can, thus avoiding any handicaps.
Problem we all here have is that Goals 1 and 2 are contradictory so we are not going to move far away.
I played one RTS game online, and i considered myself very good at it. But i followed only first goal, i didn't care about my rating at all. I had mediocre rating. It was just a number, which was nothing compared to reputation or in other words "how good other people know you are". My reputation allowed me to play in expert games, no matter the rating. I think too much people on TOH seem to be obsessed by rating, they don't realize that you don't need a rating for others to know you are good at this. It is a small community, and word will spread up fast, don't worry.
For some tournament things like clans, go ahead, play your best, but most of "common" games should not be played with your thoughts set on ratings.

You are right, but the same situation is when all starts to zero. Anyone can play anyone, and also the weakest (which I dont believe exists) can achieve (learn) a lot; this way the competition increase and the value of tournament as well.
Thats what we all want, to play between each other, no matter what rank we are.
But of course this wont be possible, we all know y...its about MORALE...you know what I'm saying...then comes the ranking system...
Remember that all heroes know that a good morale in a game is everything. If you mate loose playing with a newcoming hero...then your morale decrease under zero...thats why I believe you dont want that...and dont deserve it...

I cant believe how many here agree with me... and i thought you'd kill me... heh... so ALL CLANS/PLAYERS EQUAL. Dont think that we can come out with another way to increase activity.

I couldnt agree more!!!!! I play this game for the fun and enjoyment of the game. Sure the flashy title is kewl.. but by far not the most important part. And that is prolly why I will never get higher then Lord. In order to get Emperor, you need to really dig deep and pull out ALL the stops. (Stuff like Hit and Run etc etc...and some other shady stuff..)
I actually hate being at Lord status because I am forced to play other lord+ players and at this level, I have found it isnt about fun and enjoying the game anymore, it is do any and EVERYTHING no matter what to get the win.
Guess I am a Baron at heart
Lets Start season 2 with complete reset to Zero on EVERYTHING!!! So we can include all the NEWBIES in the mix!!!!

Why not change the main ranking?
No more points but number of victory
After many games the good player will be always on top and in this case all player can play with all with no fear to lose anything a part of a single game..
1 victory=3 points
1 loses=-1 points
that's all
Don't kill now for this idea..just an idea..

If the problem is only that the top player not gain many points playing with new player and lose too much losing a game(and seems all think this)this can be a solution.
In all game we gain a certain number of points and lose the same number if we lose..not considering anything else.
Every system have some problem but the most important thing is activity..
To play a game need some hour of work i think it's good to have a system that let the player free to play without considering that he will not lose his time.
But as i have said before is just an idea

Well that would NOT work!!
The rankings points are NEEDED! And the formula is GENIUS! If not for the ranking points, then the emperors would just kill the newbies all day and night and have 1000 wins. There would be nothing to push them to play players of there own strength.
Must keep the ranking points. Just need to Move on to season 2 is best solution.

The ranking system must solve one simply problem : a high rank player to have an advantage (or to be forced) playing with a low rank player.
Low activity in toh is because a new player or a low ranking player must spend many hours to find a game.
A solution for this situation is that a player must be forced in a way or another to play (ex: player 1 challenge player 2 for a game ),and in a well defined period of time they must start a game.

Any time limits on fixed matches or forced matching vs. players is doomed to failure. Know this from the 10 yrs experience with ToH activity.
Freedom to play anyone without any specific parameters is the best way in a 'free challenge' environment.
Remember that ToH is not just for 'rankings', but recorded history of your wins, losses, activity, opponents etc... Its nice to be able to look 10 years back and see where a player stood -- as ToH will never 'disappear' under my wing.

Seems i will be off from ToH forever...
Was a part of my life, but now micromanagement during 4-6 hour sis too anoing and take so much efforts and concentration, so i cant seems returt to HoMM world until play that browser game.
Really sorry , friends, but i have no will to play...
May be some simple but dynamic maps i can try, but not more...

Sorry to see you go... but you are correct... Heroes is a game of Patience and Strategy and Thinking.. It always has been. It sounds like you should try games like Warcraft that have the quicker 10 min games..

I am sure Ves will do something great as he always did, starting in March.
So all of you guys who dont have a clan or want to keep the old one alive, write to Ves for activation in the new clan season.
This is what I red in the forum so far...
Also, could be a new start for everyone...all rankings points reset to zero but not sure!!!...

Only clans will be reset for now. The official rankings will last for some more time - until the great battle of the emperors (at least 8 emperors are needed for that, we got 6 at this time).
