Eurojaunt
I'm heading to Europe in Dec/Jan this year. I don't want to get stuck in the tourist trap. Can you help by giving me some advice, some highlights, some must do activities, some top secret locations, and some hilarious places to go because they are so bad that you go wow that was a real waste of time I'm glad I went

Well, depends where you want to go, I mean what part. Europe is surprisingly big actually. It can be divided into different parts, each with its own attractions.
1) If you're going to see England, London is where you should go first. There are loads of other things to see, however, but that's a long story.
2) The North and Scandinavia... What's the use, it's not like you're going there now is it?
3) The South, Mediterranean countries. Very nice area, but I recommend Greece and Italy. As a general rule, the costal areas are nice but full of said tourists, so something interesting inland could be nice. Fortunately this area is full of things to do.
4) The East. I have no idea, ask them. I don't know anything about those countries, most of the time when I have to refer to one of them I just say "one of those countries over there" and everybody understands.
5) Central and West Europe I know the best. I think if you want to see many different places, you should stay in Luxembourg, and I'm not just saying that so that I'd get to see you. Seriously, if you stay in Luxembourg, you'll be able to see France, Germany and Belgium by just using public transport, which is very cheap, as well. Holland is quite close, too. 20 minutes in a bus from the capital and you're out of the country, because it's dead small. All of those countries are within 40km of any place you might stay in. Plus you can get to other countiers with ease as well, such as Switzerland. Oh and it's quite cheap to stay here, or so I've heard.
So when are you coming to Europe and for how long? What countries do you think you'll visit?

Scandinavia: If you like Rain, wind and some rather chilly weather! AND THEN SUDDENLY! a very sunny day .. Then you go to Scandinavia! Else well? Who cares.. France is nice, good food and good nature.. Same with Italy.. Germany is if you like beard  . Ireland if you like hiking and see nature, and when the night fall go to a pub

STILL waiting for some replies in this one :hmpf:
looks like it will be me and some swiss backpacker walking the streets for 4 weeks, searching for Milena in bulgaria and flicking threw soggy Vlaad comics strewn across the streets... there must be something interesting to see - c'mon!

If you wan't to see something interesting then don't come to Western/Northern Europe...
...except that you absolutely have to visit Germany because of the beer.
Too bad you ain't coming to Europe during the Oktoberfest.
