Pets, pets, pets, and humans

It's just simple as it is. From the very moment we tamed animals, ever since the persian cheetah to a fluffy doggy, they've been living amongst us in harmony, so that's the question, do you have a pet?
If so, tell us about it.
If not, would you like to have one? which?

I have none, for now, cause of my 5 year old brother's respiratory problem (it's not grave but mom is so protective). I'd like to have an german sheepherd and an aquarium of variety of sea invertebrates.

I would love to have a dog, a pointy eary one and something that resembles a wolf. Schaefer, Husky etc.
But I have to get a home and proper economy myself for affording one, the best solution would that be. My family are strict against getting a dog, since both me and my mom are somewhat allergic to dogs, but to a far lesser extenct than cats. Another reason theres a slim chance for getting a dog home is that its expensive and other factors such as money and time for training/socializing may be a problem.

But once I get the time and money and a new home, I would try to get the healthies bred GSD dog there is to find in norway. And I would call him Lyco or Lyca if female. Those names are a result of me, experimenting with the term Lycanthrophy which are the name of the werewolf disease. So those were spot on great names for a future (wolf-like) dog friend and companion.

Running across grasy fields with my best friend Lyco is a dream of mine. Having him protecting my home, human friends and family while I'll take as much care of my dog as possible and aid the dog as I would aid and take care of my family in return.

Something like these pictures are similar to my vision, man I got soft at once

You sure seem to like dogs a lot! As you said they demand too much care and social activity, so just leaving food and water for him won't be enough. You know those winter-wolf like dogs, i forgot their name, i'd love to have one just like in your dream, but, they look like to be difficult to be taken care of.

Never told anything about being a fan of pets, they do please me a lot, but there are more important things (such as family-humans).

I myself have 2 cats and 2 dogs. My oldest dog is about 7 years old - she was 3 when we bought her. The younger dog is around 3 years old, and we found him as a tiny puppy abandoned on the side of the road, now hes a huge, big, slightly annoying dog. Unfortuneatly we have to keep him chained up because he will tear up anything in his path if allowed to be loose unsupervised, including but not limited to pool pumps, garden hoses, plants, etc. The older dog lays around all day and does what she pleases.

The younger one loves to get in the pool with us during the summer, but the older one fears the water :/

We originally had 3 cats, but we took one back because it didn't take kindly to my grandmother and then scratched her. The second was gone when my step-mom and my dad broke up, and they moved, with her taking her cat.

The first cat gave us complete hell, meowing and whining, missing her companion, and completely bored without company. So, after a few weeks, we went out and bought another cat and the two took some getting used to each other and a bit of fighting over territorial reasons, but now they get along perfectly.  This is our newest cat, both cats are about a year to a year and a half year old.

The dogs and cats usually don't mind each other, the older dog completely ignores that cats, while they are curious and try to chase her around when she runs in circles, and the black cat once got whipped in the face by the dogs tail when she was wagging it rapidly.

The younger, bigger dog is terrified of the cats. He crawls into a corner whenever approached by both of them, and its actually quite funny cause he is almost ten times as big as they are.

Both cats are very affectionate, and both dogs love to play around, but the younger one is getting so big that he starts to hurt to wrestle around with him, and I end up with scratches and bite marks :/

I want to get a giant fish tank full of various sea creatures, and I wouldn't mind a bird and/or rabbit.

Pictures of my 2 dogs/2 cats

The older, smaller dog (and my foot), BTW those are leaves on the ground - really bad quality, so it might cause some confusion

I adore animals, but I don't have a pet at the time... And I don't plan on getting one anytime soon.
The thing is, they are so... short-lived. And the more they are around, the more tied you get to them, and the harder it is when they die. When my dog died of some sort of a long and painful brain infection some 8 or 9 years ago, I cried my soul out, so I just decided I won't get another one for some time. I mean, ok, death is a natural thing, but it's still pretty crushing when someone who has been in your house for years just disappears.

I do have a garden with several trees, though, and there's a small forest just across the street. Trees last longer (most of them will probably outlive me), I don't have to feed them, they take care of themselves and they generally don't tend to jump at me ecstatically and lick me from head to heels

Yeah I sure do

Some dogs need more care and activity, like Huskies demands more of that than a bulldog. It depends on breeds. But yeah all of them demands something of you in general.

You mean Siberian Huskies?

Huskies

or these?

Canadian Eskimo Dog

Greenland Dog

Now these fellas need alot of activity!

Yeah, that's the one, the Siberian Huskie. Is there any other one that resembles a wolf that much?
Hey, you know the pit bull, he's the number one criminal dog here in Brazil (of course, it's not the animal's fault, but they do have a strong personality), we have many cases of children dilacerated or killed by them, people here just don't know how to take care of a dog or to have them guard the house properly. Some train them to be slaughters just to show they're "cool" and "brave". Is there something similar where you live or is it all civilized?

Its quite alot more sivilized than what you described. I think its banned to own such dogs as the pit bull here in norway, there have indeed been a few incidents regarding such dogs.

These wolfdogs like the one below are to wild to be in ownership (because of its half wolven heritage and genes). So its also banned from alot of countries, like the US, UK and Scandinavia.

This one is sure similar to a wolf.

Pit bull's infame seems to be all the same around the world, isn't it. I know very few group of people that really care for them.

@2XtremeToTake
Your cute Midnight is just the cat i dream to have, black fur and yellow eyes, reminds me of an elegant elven woman. Also they seem to be so mysterious and delicate with that looking, i mean, some cats are fluffy and all, but yours is just the kind i find to be most "feline", smart and powerful at the same time. You've surely got a friend for the whole life.

I've got 3 cats (had 4 but one disappeared ), one of them is black, the other one is fluffy and strong (gets into fights with outdoor cats when I don't watch him ) with white-black spots, and the latter is also a cat (female) like the black one, but has white-black spots (not so fluffy as the male). I always loved cats and they really calm me both physical and spiritual.

Also i have a small aquarium with 3 fish in it (the cats are not really interested in them right now, but the male one was really causing troubles some years ago with this).

Yes, they are, however, there is something the great mother has created wich can counter that, it's the miracle of reproduction.

My first dog was a female (Cheetah, she was more like a cat than a dog), she died when I was only 9, it crushed me, but also taugh me a lesson: WE MIGHT LIVE FOREVER, THROUGH THE IMAGE OF OUR DESCENDANTS. She had 7 doggies, 4 males and 3 females!!! I couldn't take care of all of them so some i gave to people who wanted a dog, and took care of two of them (Ryan and Odin). Since that moment, the weight of death was lighter and i loved those puppies as much as I loved Cheetah.

Unfortunately, they died a few years ago, but as you said, it's all natural. I plan to have a pet again, for in my concept having a friend beside you, even for a short moment of life, is something to be eternal and always be reminded with love.

PS: Of course, all i said is entirely personal.

Meh...all of my pets are neutered/spayed...Although I would have liked to breed them, not with each other, though, considering both cats are female and the dogs don't get along...they don't fight, they just more or less ignore each other.

That vision cats and dogs are enemies is not true, may I say. I know only a few cases of cats living with dogs without harmony, the fights happen when a dog meets a strange cat, in the street or at home, in fact, it happens with most animals, even birds.
