Upgrading-yes or no?

Now it is official that creatures won't be able to be upgraded, not in castles. First I thought it was a bad idea to get rid of the upgrading. But then I read about this in an interview and on of the makers of HOMM 4 said that they got ride of the upgrading because nobody was to pick a harpy over harpy hag and that is true (atleast I think like that). So they made the first creatures stronger, as they would be upgraded (if the upgrading would be present in the game, than maybe haflings wouldn't have Giant slayer, but they would have to be uograded in to, I don't know, maybe Haflungs (only an eksample), and then they would get giant slayer. That would mean, that haflings would be weaker and they wouldn't have a special ability). Is the upgrading really better? (you will probably save money with this sistem and because you can buy as many buildings a day as you want, this will help you to buy more creatures a day. I the upgrade would be present, you would first buy the first building and you would probably upgrade it. And because of this, you would buy less creature dwelings and other building a day). After this, I think that upgrading raelly isn't nesesery. What do you think? Wolfmaster, auuuuuuu!

I think...

No upgrade sistem is good or bad. You will play the game less time if you'll have less buildings to buy. I prefer that at least a few creatures would be able to upgrade.

I think it will improve the gameplay by not having to upgrade creatures. You'll have more time to do more important things.

The idea of upgrading is bad. But there could be made some room fore training your units. It seems fare to me that after they've seen action they'll do better and better in battles. They could increase their skills up to a certain degree. About the question what happens when you mix experienced with the unexperienced, I don't know. There are two options as I see it. First to make the arithmetical mean after every battle since the new units will be gaining experience also... but it requires some computing, I know...
The other is to say that the veterans will train the rookies and after a  defined time the skills would be the same for all. I don't know if it could work...perhaps not...

100% NO! and I apreciate this major change that came from 3DO ... no more time lost with waiting the resurces to make the upgrade and let's face it after you make the upgrade to the Cloud Temple (Giants->Titans) who will be foulish enough to choose a Giant rather than a Titan!!! for God's sake!!!! (congratulations 3DO again!)

It would be cool if a few creatures could be upgraded. And few creatures could unite (like you can put two creatures together and get a new better one)

Now, that's a completely new idea!
But I really doesn't see it at work....how would you do that?

Upgrades were a hassle in H3, but it's probably the best upgrade system that could have been done. I wouldn't want a system like in AoE where once you research an upgrade (or in this case, build an upgraded dwelling) all creatures you have of that type instantly upgrade. I wouldn't mind minor upgrades by creature experience, but that system could get pretty unwieldy if you start mixing groups. So no upgrades is fine with me, although I certainly wouldn't have minded allowing upgrades like in H3 (I'd never put Hill Forts on the map, though - those are too big an advantage, especially for Tower).

Perhaps if a creature fights longer, he or she can gain experience and stats. I mean, a veteran would most likely outmatch a rookie, and that should be a factor on the battlefield.

Yes, but then you run into problems - what if you mix an "elite" unit and a "rookie" unit? Do the rookies become elites, elites become rookies, or somewhere in between?

When the upgradin system was first introduced in HOMM2 I was happy, and it was something really new back than, after HOMM1. But when in HOMM3 they introduced upgrading on all the creatures, I felt it overdone. And I still share that feeling.

So the news, that they're wlaking the HOMM1 walk, when the creatures are concerned makes me happy. And I agree with Rogue, who sais that you'll spend more time on more important things. The creature upgrading in HOMM3 appears to be only distractor from the game. And without it, the games will be smoother and faster and less confusing.
