Prices&Earnings in your country

Since I'm pretty curious how the average salaries look in other countries, I decided to create this thread.

There is not much info around, I know which country is "rich" or "poor" going by the national income, but that does not really prove much.

Do me a favor and write down how much do people of different occupations earn.. and how much does it cost to buy a small flat, for example.. or how much does food cost

I'll start with my country.. Poland..

Cost of a small flat in capital - Warsaw (very small ~ 35 meters^2) - 65000 euro
Cost of a small flat in small towns close to Warsaw - 50000 euro
Cost of cheapest Ford Focus: 12500 euro
Cost of cheapest Fiat Panda: 6000 euro
Bread: 0,5 euro
Coca cola 0,5 liter ~ 0,8 euro
Cheeseburger (McDonalds) ~ 0,75 euro

For the salaries:

Monthly salary of:

Teacher (high school) = 350 euro
Teacher (university) = 625 euro
Storekeeper = 300 euro
Doctor = 325 euro (it's not a joke, that's what they get from working in hospitals and such.. they earn much more from their private surgeries though)
Policeman (low rank) = 375 euro
Fireman (low rank) = 350 euro
Army: Private = like 350 euro
Army: Lieutenant = 700 euro
Army: Corporal = 1500 euro
Prostitute : 2500-5000 euro
Ordinary clerical worker: 375-500 euro
Chairman: depends of course, but on average something like 7500-10000 euro
Welder: good welder can easily get 1000 euro or more, yup physical laborers get more cash in Poland than white collars

Not very impressive, don't you think? ~~

I'd give a far greater spread to prostitutes, like 300 - 10k euro, but that's just my care for details.
And as for university teachers, it depends highly on their scientific rank, as well as place in university hierarchy.
In my university (Warsaw School of Economics):
MD(assistant): ~ 400 euro
Dr(assistant): ~ 600-700 euro
Dr(tutor): ~ 1000 euro
Assistant professor: ~ 2000 euro
Professor(extraordinary*): ~ 3000 euro (*i.e. is treated as assistant professor, not professor, by other universities)
Professor: 4000-5000+ euro
Atop of this are added salaries for administrative functions.

I'd also add few important things to the price list:
Renting apartment (70 m2) - 500-700 euro/month /1000+ - center/(Warsaw), 350-500 euro/month (other cities);
gasoline/petrol - 1,2-1,3 euro/liter;
net access(1 Mb/s) - 20-25 euro/month;
beer(average one) - 1,3-1,7 euro/0,5 liter (shop); 2,5-3,5 euro/0,5 liter (clubs etc.)

And Doom, if you think our real earnings (nominal/prive level) are not impressive, visit f.eg. Ukraine. Even if you are not very well-off in Poland, there you can pick'n'choose .
We're poorer than West Europe, North America or Japan, but if one was to place Poland within the "80/20" scheme (80% of world population having 20% it's income, and 20% having 80% output), Poland would still easily enlist to the rich 20% .

LOL, I read the title twice, on two occasions, with about two hours in between, and both times I thought it said "Piercings and earrings".

Anyway, where I live, Luxembourg, we have the lowest minimum wage in the world. Which, of course, is great, but there are some taxation issues, I think. Although Luxembourg has a reputation as something of a tax paradise, that's mostly referring to indirect taxes, rather than income taxes. I'll see to the salaries of different professions and inform you when I'm done with the research.

I would appreciate that, thank you

HoMaM: payments seem 2-4 times higher in Greece than in Poland. Why that does not surprise me?

Because you did not see the prices .
Real earnings(i.e. what you can buy) in Greece, in a research by eurostat, were determined to be ~1,7x those in Poland . Poland does not suck completely .
In EU, we happen to have higher real salaries than in Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria.

Before I start

In Israel, we use a coin named "New Shekel" (I'll call in NS).
1 Dollar = 3.47 New Shekels
(3 years ago, 1 Dollar was worth 4.6 NS, but things have changed a bit)

Here's a bill of 50 NS:

Average salary: 8,113 NS (was 7,918 NS in 2007)
Minimal salary: 3,710 NS
[numbers were taken from the site of the Israeli Central Bureau of Statistics, January 2008]

Avergae salaries:
Teacher: 5,986 NS
Cop's: 5750 NS
Cop with seniority of 7 years: about 8,000 NS
Doctor: 23,502 NS
Doctor with seniority of 20 years or more: 29245 NS
Insurance company worker: 15,062 NS
Electricity company worker: 16,867 NS
Waiters and hotel workers: 3,864 NS
Industry worker: 11,309 NS

Prices:
These prices were written by me. Consider that I live in the center of Israel, and things here are more expensive.
Bottle of Coke (0.5 liter): 7 NS
Loaf of bread: 6 NS
Bottle of Milk (1 liter): 5-6 NS
McDonalds meal: 33 NS
1 portion of Falafel: 10-12 NS
An apartment of 3 rooms: 720,000 NS (up to now, apartments' prices had been in Dollars, but it changed since the Dollar rate is so low comparing to the NS)
A car: from 30,000 Shekels to 150,000 Shekels (and yes, there are many people here who buy those expensive cars).

seems that Euro is approximately worth 6 times more than New Shekel so it's still 3-4 times bigger payments than here, with prices being like 1,5 times higher. Not bad

According to my calculation, a teacher has to work 15 years in order to afford a small apartment in Warsaw. The bright side is that teachers can do private lessons, and quite often, that becomes their main income.

a privet lesson is from 50 to 100 per hour, depends on the subject and intecity.

Minimal wage also sometimes count for hours
19.8 is the minimal per hour.
secuity guard with weapon in educational facility earns up to 25NS per hour. while a coffe shop, mall, super market, and a restarnt secuirty makes up to 36NS per hour.

and GL neglected to explain milletery:

While serving the mendetory army of israel,(IDF) you get paid by the amount of factors.
how dangerus your service is from 250NS to 550NS without factors per mounth.

Also: a solider gets meny benefits freom the state.
Also: If he lives by himself and etc he gets more.
Also: If hes a single child and or had a realitve died in the army gets even more.
Also: If he becoumes crippled by even 1% due to the service he gets paid more for the rest of hes life.

True.I don't kno how are things in Poland.I know that life in Greece has nothing to do with life in UK or in Germany for example.I don't know but the average greek citizen thinks he's poor.Maybe because we learn to complain all the time or maybe because greeks give all of their money to night life.Or maybe it's the TV.

In the last 3 years i watch carefully the news in these days. Before orthdox's easter. And what i found out is that every year say :"12% more expensive this year the lamb".This they tell it every single year but the prices are exactly the same. And not only to this.Everyday we hear about the prices and how hard life becomes.

But prices are very high indeed. If you want to drink your coffee in a high class area you have to pay 5,5 euros.A single drink in a club 8-10 euros. If you want to have your table with six seats in "bouzoukia" you have to pay about 500 euros. If the singer isn't a first class.Luckily i hate that kind of entertainment

Interesting to see the milk/bread ratio.

In Croatia 1l of milk costs roughly the same as 1kg of bread (default half-white).

According to your numbers, you get 4 liters of milk for 1 bread (which makes me think that either milk is very cheap or bread very expensive.

Just an observation.
