School of Sorcery

I just created a new map and I'd like some help with the testing I have fixed a few bugs that came up but I most probably have missed something, also I would like some comments on the balance of the map.
The garrison strength for instance is subject to change.

School of Sorcery 1.4 UPDATED 23-09

Changelog:

1.4:
-Added two missing magic wells in blue’s area.
-Added two seer huts that offer battlecry and fear my roar.
-Guardians of shatter huts now set to wild.
-Aesthetic changes.
-Banned rune of charge.

1.3:
-Rune of charge is back, week 4 armies are not very big anyway.
-Added a paladin stack before the artifact merchants for avenger. Training is pretty powerful in this map.
-Red’s left pyramid no longer blocked.
-The tier 7 neutrals in the portals are now 20 by default.
-Added tier 2 and 3 flagged dwellings that you can access through caravan. There are also tier 6 and 7 that are unreachable so that they only give +1 to growth.
-Phoenixes in the initiation area now changed to a colossus and 3 mummies because water elementals were nerfed with 3.1 patch.



It's a fast paced medium scenario with emphasis on spellcasting. The goal was to give freedom in selecting magic schools while also offering decent spell availability. Around the map there are shrines and scrolls to get the key spells, also witch huts to learn magic skill or shatters.
I hate getting word of light against a good faction or getting arcane armor early

Description

Balthazar's School of Sorcery is one of the most prominent institutions in the silver cities. Many magical prodigies have reached their potential under the stern wizard's tutelage, however he has some...eccentric tendencies.
He trains only one apprentice at a time and only those he deems worthy. To that purpose he has organized an initiation test for his top students to show their resourcefulness.

Learn what you may, master your magics and defeat the opposition to prove yourself.


Here's a preview.




Notes

•The elemental mixed stack beyond the one way near town will join. They are 5 water and 7 air elementals.

•The death knights guarding the underground give boots of travel.

•Archangels in the walled section have pendant of mastery.

•The walled section has a secret path for moving around easily.

•Wraiths guarding the sphinx have amulet of necromancy.

•The sphinx gives 25k experience or 30k gold, no artifacts.

•The seer hunts are adorned with a crystal whose colour matches the offered magic skills. Yellow for light, purple for dark, green for summoning and red for destruction.

•The prison in the underground gives Ellaine with expert counterstrike, expert trainer and recruitment.

•The shatters should not be taken unless you have stronghold. Similarly don't take magic skills with orcs.

•Defeating the guards of the treasury near town and those of the warren beyond the underground exit gives 10 wood and ore.

•There are two garrisons, one charges you while the other stays back and expects to be attacked. According to which path you take you will reach the utopia or sunken temple.

•Just before middle you can unlock a two way teleporter back to town so you can utilize your racial or upgrade creatures.

Available scrolls

Resurrection, word of light, puppet, curse of the netherworld, conjure phoenix, arcane armor, deep freeze, armageddon.

Artifacts

3 minor, 3 major, 1 relic. There are also 2 tombs of the warrior and one utopia or sunken temple in each side.

Disabled spells

Divine vengeance, earthquake, instant travel.

Disabled artifacts

Amulet of necromancy(included in map), boots of levitation, crown of leadership, mask of equity, scrolls/wands, sextant of sea elves, shackles(included), wings of the angel, magic tomes, bag of endless gold, boots of open road(included), boots of swift journey, pendant of mastery(included), horn of plenty.

A few clarifications.

The fastest you can get your hands on a major is sometime week 3 so including some of the above would be pointless. As for the tomes it’s a map feature, you are supposed to spend time filling in your spellbook not get them like that.

I am a dark horse I had made maps before but mostly for testing, similar to the arena map. That's my first attempt at a more serious multiplayer map.

Wow, this looks great! I'm impressed, making H5 maps is a difficult thing, and I think that this will be a fun one. I'll download it as soon as I get to the computer with the H5.

Edit: Damn, I'll have to uninstall the Academy to Conflux transformation pack for a while.

Lol I'm not surprised, you are a fan of magic after all. In the meantime I'm checking for improvements, maybe I should add a few chests and resource piles around. Perhaps reduce the magnetic golem stack you fight early, it takes too long till you kill them all..

Edit: I encountered a weird bug in the summoning portal, red colour. When I tried to pass through I gained sulfur because the pile was too close to the exit. But after I passed through and I attacked the phoenix I was instantly teleported back to where I came from

You said it. I hate it when the relic in my area is an artifact I cannot use. However I am unsure if that is too much strength for necro, that will require some testing.

I enjoy the map description a lot. It's vivid, possesses strong fantasy aura and exhibits clear signs that Elvin has invested a lot of effort in this project. Hopefully, I'll like the map as much

Doesn't the fact that theres Ellaine in the Prison and the Necromancer's Amulet make this a map mainly for Necro/Havern Heroes ?

Ellaine is there to avoid going back and forth with your main to train units. About the amulet I am unsure, it may be removed if I find it too strong.

The only time I've seen it used to great effect was in the Sylvan campaign back in the original...by Nicolai the Vampire Lord...

I did not enjoy losing my towers...

So far the map is nice, finally I'm able to mess around with Sorgal and his regenerating lizards ^^

Will fix. Btw the one in the last pic is the secret passage, I even have a sign lol. Seems a waste of movement to make all the way back to town so I added this as a shortcut.

Also I noticed that the corner with the astrologer's tower is rather distant from other locations so I plan to add a two way teleporter that links it to the entrance of the walled section(warrior's tomb area).

I made some more tests and the map is almost a race for the treasury guardians and the goldmine. No need to rush your way through but delay too much and you will run out of resources. Gold should be enough for capitol when you reach town lvl 15.
