Mytical, I want to be honest...
I've always considered myself an open person, and I never had any problem with transgenders, although I don't have any in my surrounding, but...
When Mytical said that she's going to have a sex-change, I freaked out a bit. It shocked me.
Maybe it because I got used to see Mytical as a woman, or maybe because it's the first time someone I know does this, but it just scares me.
Also in my language, all the verbs and the adjactives say whether the subject is male or female. So when I talk about you, I get stuck.
I'll quote Mytical from the confession thread:

I was very afraid to do this thread, but I just felt that I had to. This needs to be discussed.
I want to ask you, Mytical, how to call you meanwhile "he" or "she"? When are you passing the surgery?

Oh man, this came as an absolute shock for me, I had completly missed that confession thread... And I'm shocked...
I don't even know Mytical the way you know her Gl, so I can only imagine the way you feel, if anything, at least I can try to understand 
The idea of someone changing sex is so out of my world that I can't even visualize it, if someone I knew was changing his/her sex... well, I don't know how i would react, but I think I would try to respect their decision, and carry on as always, even though it would be hard...

@GenieLord: The same thing happened to me as well. If you look at the OOC thread for the War of 5/8, me and Azagal asked her (for the record, I still call Misty her  ) the very same question. She said that she doesn't care what gender article you use...

Seriously though, it is a touchy subject.
My take on it is the following:
Life is all about the pursuit of happiness. You have to pursue what will make you happy. I asked her why she wanted to do this and she gave me a very good reason consisting of how she felt about herself.
So, in the end, who am I to judge?
Besides, we've been friends for about two years now...nothing will ever change that.
And no, GenieLord, I don't think you're a hypocrite. It's a natural reaction I suppose. Hypocritical would be to act nice around her and backstab her verbally when she's not around (which I can tell is not your case, so don't worry about it, my friend. )

No worries Mytical is open about it. Though it may take a while till you get used to Mysty's identity as 'he', it did with me. But does it even matter? He could have said nothing and you'd see no difference, it's the same person.

Whatever Mytical wants to do with herself, albeit a grandiose thing, she has the right to do it. To be honest, its probably the last thing I'd expect from her, but its her choice. It will be uneasy breaking habits to adjust, but that's what friends do: the adapt and keep with the person.
btw - She won't be on for about 4 hours unless she's early.

Oh and btw the operation has taken place for a long time now. My first hint was when she said that she had pain on parts she didn't know she had and pain on parts she knows she didn't have  That was priceless

The Islander language where I live doesn't have different pronouns for the different sexes - it's just "em" it's always "em" btw no his/him/he differentiation, just "em"... hmmm DOH! not sure what I was thinking, of course mysty will be a he (sorry, went off on a tangent  )
It is an interesting topic, I've wondered about sex change ops - can you actually feel the penis the way a man does?
Being a woman is pretty cool tho, not sure i could give that up - there's always toys - it's like we have the best of both worlds

It's a natural feeling.
I would not worry about it. Most people would feel wierd because it's a hugh life change for a person.
Having a sex change changes a persons life forever.
To me if she's happy then thats ok, she is still the same person.
Just dif for most people who is not used to something that extreme.
Basically it's natural to feel like that, so dont trip.

And in case you care GL I still refer to him "she". Don't know why. And I absolutely don't think it's normal to do such a thing. Since I don't really know what it changes (as everybody has already pointed out she is still the same person he just looks different). And well if she feels like doing it that's great. Not that I would understand why (why would I boder?). If he's happy now everything is good.
