I'm rather sure by my experience that its true in israel , Its harder to relate to other countries which i have less knowledge about But i am pretty certain that in other countries even if the situation is better (or worst) things are not far off .

Democracy sounds like a nice idea and might work well in some situations but when implemented the way it is in a country it turns into something completly different and really losses its value.
