I'm writing a book..

.. and I've been doing it for seven years lol.

I always wanted to write something epic, it started in secondary school, when my mate and I used to write a script for our book Can't believe hap crappy it was. Some dragon ball mixed with warcraft, geez.

Fortunately, much has changed (or maybe I should say, everything).

I created my own world, quite complex, I believe, even though I was inspired by thousands of games, movies and books. You can't avoid it nowadays, I think. :E Even the brilliant "Witcher" had its world indirectly based on Tolkien's traditional elf, dwarf and halfing stereotypes. Oh well.

I wanna write a bit about it guys, maybe you'll like the setting

World

Ok, the world isn't exactly one world, it's a complex cobweb of dimensions, which cannot be comprehended easily (9D :grin). The dimensions are separated by interdimensional barriers, one, two, or three.. Which influences the life "inside". one-barriered dimensions have many abundant, colonised planets with high culture. Two-barriered are more sterile, three-barriered are pretty much empty, unless an energy vain happens somewhere. The multi-dimension is inhabitated only by humans, although they may differ in height, skin color and such. Sorry, I don't like little green men. People of the simple-barriered realms not only have superior technology, but also control their inner powers, in a form of magic, and, although rarely, their psychic powers. The people of multi-barriered realms resemble "our" humanity - no powers, poorer technology.

The "super-universe" is plagued for eternity by the Demon Empire, those who destroy the barriers and capture the realms one after another. They are not a chaotic force. They are highly bureaucratic, organised, and work together with the people of each realm before invading. The whole invasion idea is based on drawing enough energy to create a "crack" in the interdimensional barrier, severe enough to put a stable portal through it. Drawing energy is based on killing. On the captured planets, periodically a part of the population is annihilated, their life energy decomposed and used as a charge-up for the batteries.. It's needed because no one can simply enter another dimension, all beings are limited to their place of origin.. well, technically.

Yeah, I know the "demon empire" it's similar to Burning Legion of Warcraft, it's actually based on it, although I tried to make it as different as possible.

The demons have their own unique motives for capturing the universe, but that's explained somewhere in my book

The energy acquisition method used by the empire isn't exactly the most "environmental-friendly".. it creates anti-energy of unique features that corrupts the worlds. It's somewhat close to global warming; the more they kill, the more life energy they disperse, the more anti energy appears. And its predicted that the anti energy will eventually corrupt the dimensions so severly that they will implode and blend with each other, creating a completely inhabitable, chaotic mass of matter. Your little armageddon.

The dark energy was a recent discovery of the empire, and the whole story is based on it..

The world is much more complicated than that, including interdimension places where physical rules work differently, and many others, but that's not important right now ;P

A bit of background

One-dimensional worlds were easy to counquer for the Empyrean Elders simply "by force" using the life energy stolen from living organisms.. Two-dimensional worlds were impossible to capture for a long period, until they discovered a certain method.. based on the collaboration of the target of invasion.. The Empire granted the powerful entities of the realms will retain their life after death, creating liches, supporting their cause.. The liches in my world are more of a scientists, although they are certainly equal to demons in combat, they developed thousands of technologies.. A lich isn't exaclty your common d&d one, no phylactery but he uses a crystal which stores his memories and old life energy.. Makes him immobile (sort of, he can't really leave the place where his crystal is placed). The goal of each lich is to reach a level of mastery and self-awareness high enough to become one with his soul crystal, becoming an Arch-Lich, equal to supreme demons in power. Oh well, anyway, the liches are also suregons of sort.. and the creators of the deathknight project, which is the main plot

Death Knights are thoughtfully selected powerful humans who undergo a complete change to become perfect soldiers. Their bodies are improved, bones hardened with special substances and magic, unnecessary organs removed and replaced with new different ones, their hormonal system adjusted, certain reactions removed (no fear, doubts, mercy, compassion - they can only cause problems in their missions), brain altered, perception increased.. well, a perfect soldier. They are elite assassins and special forces of the Empire. They use their rune swords which they share their soul with, capable of cutting through forcefields used by more powerful beings, and advanced destructive magic. Death Knights perform sabotage missions for the Empire, set new order, ally people with liches.. Start cults that can begin the life energy harnessing on their own, which the liches learn to use.. When everything is ready, an "attack from both sides" enables invasion to a double-barriered world.

Triple barriered worlds are rare, yet unconquered.. yet. With the discovery of the antienergy, it seems that the Empire is close to developing a method that will enable them to conquer those.. they are important because they are often bottlenecks, the only way to reach the yet undiscovered parts of the super-universe. That's what it seems, at least..

Story

The story focuses on a young, rich and egoistic male from a three-barriered realm, from a planet that lies on a "energetic vein" that pretty much enabled them to develop high technology and magical abilities, in which the Liches raised to power recently, and the death knight project is about to begin. He is chosen for a death knight, and begins his path towards his destiny.. he is not a common death knight, for many reasons which I don't want to spoil The story focuses on many things. Is evil and good relative? Can death knights fall in love? Can they act on their own, and create their own moral codex? What happens if they are accused of something they haven't commited and called the enemy of the Empire? Is the universe corrupted to a point of being un-redeemable, will the anti energy eventually collapse the world? Is there a God in that sad, corrupted wasteland the Empire creates? Are there more sides of a conflict than just one.. two.. or three? And what happens with the psychics of the Death Knights, twisted humans, that lost their humanity, can they retain their sanity, being, after all, lesser beings, dependant on their chemical-reaction-based brain and nerves?

Don't get me wrong, our hero won't be a goody two shoe.. he will be pretty much like other death knights. He will commit horrible crimes, because he has to and because he can.. like the others. The death knights can do what they want.. anything. Rape, steal, kill whomever they want, torture people, destroy cities, eat embryos They are above moral laws of "normal humans". But they are created from normal humans, and their minds, even if altered and twisted, can work in a unpredictable way..

And our "hero" isn't a common death knight. Which he slowly discovers as he ventures through the worlds, fighting for different sides, not always because he has chosen that way..

Final words

There will be a lot of fights, battles and clashes of various beings, and I intend to describe them in detail, including the moves, acrobations and techniques used.. There is a lot of philosophy and pseudo philosophy, and a different approach towards some "taboo" stuff.. I think everyone is tired of superheroes and supervillians that want to save/destroy the world for no apparent reason. How about something more clichéd, more complicated.. and without "saving the world" just for once?

I already have material for at least two big books. I am planning to write a trilogy I don't think I will ever try to publish it, I'm not the best writer around, I'm writing it for me and my mates, maybe I will throw it online someday.. who knows

Hope it will be a good one.

My native, I fear Polish. But hey, I could translate. I can write in both languages.. I'm not the best in english, though. I mean, I write fanfictions and short stories in English only, but to write a book, with all the rich language.. you pretty much have to write in "your" language. Ok, Nabakov wrote "Lolita" in English and it still was fascinating, but even he admitted it would be much better if he could use all his rich Russian vocabulary.

So.. Maybe there will be an official translation when it becomes a bestseller. Lol

Interesting and original

But why you had to name them Liches and Death Knights?

because they are liches and death knights.. you could call the elves "wogglemogglegreenthintreefreeloverpowers" but if they are basically good old elves.. why to bother ?

no, there are no elves in my story, if you want to know

And besides, I really liked death knights, in all games.. Heroes, warcraft, warlords.. their concept is simply cool. And I like the name.

I like it - Seems a really good mix of sci-fi and fantasy - Only one problem: If you fail to make all that about the dimentions clear , the book will be very vague. But it is looking good

Writing books is always a fun thing to do. Be aware that it might be hell to get it published, though. These days not a lot of publishers are jumping for new fantasy-writers who didn't already earn their stripes. I'm an example of this. I've got a trilogy on the shelf which I should be able to get pushed through on in about three years, and the meeting with the publisher was about a year ago now.

So, just a bit of warning to not put all your eggs in the novel-basket. It's a great way to make a living, once you get to the point you can actually make a living, but there are the necessary hiccups along the way. Have a serious backup.

Wow, this sounds very interesting.

I think you should try to publish it. Send it to a few publishers, and even if they won't take it, they can really give you good tips of how to improve it, and to make it more enjoyable for the reader. And remember, all the publishers in England rejected the first Harry Potter book when Rowling sent it to them at the beginning. So try and be patient. This might be a one-life chance.

So good luck with all that!

By the way, in what language is it written, English or Polish?
