H4 MUST be different!

There are some great castle and gameplay ideas here, but there is one thing missing in all HoMMs: The music and graphics are not good enough, for example in H3, look at the green dragon: Instead of looking cool and evil (Its a dragon after all!), it looks like a soft puff-dragon, and many other units, and the music is opera and classical, but I think that units should look more evil, more bold, town pics and music should actually give us the mood of the town, for example: Necropolis should have a really dark sky with green lightnings, with perspective looking from ground level and the earth looks moist and saturated with bones, the music on the background is some (heavy) metal music (maybe mixed with classical), and the necro units should look more like the characters on Iron Maiden's posters, do u understand what I mean? They should leave the Fairy Tale and Fantasy look and music and go to a more cool look and more cool music which *really* gives the mood of the castle, so that even lvl 1 units will look more like fighters (more tough and cool, they are at war after all!).
What do u think?

Yes,and the dragons shouldn't look all the same just in a different color. But why should the people in a necro town look more evil??? Maybe they could look "more undead" but they are not evil. But maybe the necros could look more evil, crazy or bad influenced. The only town in heroes III which was really evil was inferno and maybe dungeon a bit...

Not quite, but...

I think the direction of town presence is right. The music in necro town is evil enuff by me mwuhahahaha! Man, we need an evil smiley here! But the animation of the towns could be improved like training skeletons or a necro standing there and raising them out of the graves. Some fall apart while the others go and start training where they kill each other and only the best remain to be recruited (just an animation, not a calculation). Might be too much, but you catch my drift, more random frames of town animation. As for the units, as I said in the SIZE post, I think that the only thing that can be done to make units more powerful is their SIZE! (evil grin would go here).

Evil........

U said that the music in necro is evil enough, and that's what I am talking about, the Necro music is a kind of a dairy tale evil music, but think about heavy metal playing in the background, now that's *EVIL*! That shows that this town really evil, and so it should be for more towns, Dragons should look more large (2x3), walk on 4 feet, and be really big with a really powerful and evil look! angels should not look like grandpa's, but like fierce warriors (I kinda like more the look of the unupgraded angel over the upgd one). The fortress creatures could look more, MYSTERIOUS , The music could be a lot creepier, and the Hydra could look much more evil and also the Gorgon and the Wyvern and actually anyone, what I mean is that evil shouldn't be fairy tale kind of evil but a real creepy kind of evil, and the good units should look more like fighters (in H3 they look like some kids which crapped in their pants). Hope u understand what I mean.

nah i disagree i mean if u think they look bad just look at the first heroes! Heroes has always looked a bit cartoony to appear to a much wider group of people. I think heroes3 got it just right with the characters in the game. And why should the undead put up with heavy metal surely they have been tortured enough?

Whats bad with heavy metal in the background?
When I said it looks bad I ment that there is still more to improve, but comparing to H1, there is nothing to talk about.

I agree to most of the stuff...

Thats also why it took me a year to start playing heroes 3 from when I got it. The graphics is too cartooninsh and that we dont want. But I really don't think we need to worry about this... just look att the screenshoot. You can see that the adventure map is becoming more realistic and it would be strange if everything else didn't do so also.

You can forget about heavy metal to this game. Do as I do, turn off the music and play something else.

About Heavy Metal in HOMM

Hey, Mystery

I've been a heavy metal disciple since the middle eighties. Metal records are right now about the 70% of my music collection (almost 500 albums), but I must recognize that I'll hate heavy metal in HOMM4. Yes, most of HM and Hard Rock groups sing about epic fantasy, evil lords, mythical warriors, etc (specially in the nineties, with the avalanche commanded by Blind Guardian, Rhapsody, Stratovarius, Gamma Ray, Virgin Steele, Hammerfall...), but I think their music doesn't fit on the HOMM world at all.

I was an adrenaline pump up when you were playing Quake II, for instance, and the speed metal begun to sound as you move into action, but... not in HOMM, please. Another example, maybe you've heard about a record from Blind Guardian called "Nightfall on Middle Earth". In short words, it tells some of the Tolkien's Silmarillion stories in a heavy metal manner, but it will be a real deception if that kind of music will be used for the upcoming "Lord of the Rings" movie trilogy.

I think 3DO has a fine tuned musical opinion for their HOMM saga. The only think I could pray for is the return of that HOMM2 opera singing. And now, with the MP3 format taking very little space, this opera sound could be an option to please also the opera-haters.

Metal.

When I said heavy metal, I first ment to put it only int the necro castle (necro and metal kinda fit together), but I also ment it to be myabe music including mostly electric guitars, and not to be a music which will drive u crazy, maybe it could even be mixed with opera or classical music.

I didnt say a word about drums, I say it should be calm, but should include this rough, cool sound of e-guitars.

You can change the music in Heroes 3. To do this you first have to change the name of a MP3 file on your hard drive to one that is in the MP3 folder under your Heroes 3 folder.  If you move the original sound file to some other location and move the renamed file into the MP3 folder, it will play whatever music is on the renamed file.  So you can customize the necromancer's town's music to whatever you fell like.
