Need help with D&D rules

Just started editing units according to D&D 3.5 rules, and so far it's gone pretty good. But of course there have been quite a few problems. Asked question in other threads, especially Salamanders (thx for all the help), but gathered all future questions here.

Now first of all I need suggestion to what monster I should use. These are a few I couldn't find in D&D: Dendroids (maybe Ent but couldn't find any stats), Gremlin,Serpent and Dragonflies, Demons and horned demons (need two specific demons), Ghost and Blood dragon, Behemoths, Firebird and Sacred phoenix. Now, it should be a creature remotely resembling, since I can't make new ones. Can't even make a stick creature :-). And some stats would be nice as well.

Two: Is it even possible to make a non-shooting unit a shooting one? Don't care about graphic but read somewhere you needed some animation otherwise nothing would happen. Extracted CRANIM.txt, and changed the dwarves to the same as Centaur, but then the game totally flipped. So, I don't care how it looks for now, just if it can be done?

Three: Please, there just must be a way to make units immune to poison? It seems so simple since they can be immune to almost everything else.

Four: Huge dragon problem. My plan was to have dragon Wyrmlings (weak ones) and then with the stack experience make them "grow" to Ancient dragons (really strong). So they should start with app. 50hp and end with 600hp. When I was done editing I saw something about max stat raise was 255p. Is there a way to get around that?

Five: Accordig to "Stack Experience Bonus.txt" you could disable Death stare (by making it 0% of happen). Is it possible to then give Mighty gorgons Petrify ability instead, or will that just mess things up?

And finally (for now). Six: If I want to have critical damage (using Death blow for now) how can I set up so it make triple the damage??


Oh, one final thing. I REALLY suck at ERM, so I've just been editing .txt files. So if the solution can be made with just editing that would be really great. But if ERM is needed, then so be it....

And so no one start complaining, I'm not looking for someone to make scripts to me, I just want a push in the right direction. But on the other hand, if someone want to give me new graphic and script

Without very deep ERM mastering you will not be able to complete the above dream. I have no idea what we can do by editing the cranim.txt (except I use it to have faster animations).

You must make new animations to have a shooter not shooting and viceversa, or game will be messed. As much as I know there is no immunity to poison. Have you tried to give immunity all spells and see what happens?

You can get your dragons better in HP with experience scripts. Just modify the values when using the B4 slot. However they will end very fast being uber healthy. I would suggest a quest system through the game, when you complete some tasks, your dragons are stronger by scripting them.

Don't mess with death stare, it is hardcoded.

I know no way to triple the damage other than giving HATRED damage.

Well, it was a longshot, however, as far as I can remember Centaurs started throwing spears in the 3.57 version?? They made some changes in the cranim.txt, so if you look at it that way it should be possible. Of course this means every unit throw spears, but at least it working.

Well, a shooter not shooting? Can't you just set the arrows to zero all the way? But I don't think I need to change a unit that way. Haven't tried giving unit total immunity, but that would make some units "wrong". Well, not that many unit have poisoning, and one way to go around this is to make "poison immune" creatures cast a dispel effect before each attack. Of course this dispels more than poison but hey.....

Now we're talking, please explain. Why do health rise make them rise in speed as well? And what is uber healty?

As mentioned above, DAMN! Guess double damage will do, since they should be able to make critical hit agains every creature, but not always. Just a thought here, could you set hatred against "-8" creatures (all of them) but make hatred happen around 10%. Probably not, seems farfetched...

Casting dispel will not work. All the spells that you can script before or after attack are to be casted ON enemy units. If you want for example a creature having fire shield or prayer, you have to utilise a different code (enchanted with spell). And poison is not a spell, that's why it is so difficult to find something to work. Have you noticed that the only thing against poison is cure, but never dispel?


I think some deep tests are required. I will look myself what happens when a creature is scripted to cast cure or dispel. All I know is that when I scripted them to cast ressurect I had a fast return to desktop.


"Uber" is a German word. It means Overpowered. I was saying that if your dragons start at 50HP and become 600 HP at ace, this could mess your scenario. They need some 10 fights for that and that will come very fast. Why not set a seer hut system where when you completed an objective your dragons become stronger (let's say 150HP). Later when you complete another objective their health rise to 300 and so on.

I suppose no. Except shooting ability and shooting animation they also need a missile graphics. So it is hard code. But... On the russian forum there was a patch that allowed this.

I suppose u cant do it using death blow, but u can create ur own death blow (show animation and then multiple the damage the defender receives).

BTW - here is my 1st scipt, where i tried to realize D&D beholder's eye ray ability - after shot they could cast hypnotize, turn to stone, sorrow, slow or finger of death. It is still glitched, but may be it will help u somehow...

Am I thinking wrong, but don't all units have a melee attack animation? Or do you mean if a made a unit that can only shoot? In that case, the answer is no, all unit should have a melee attack.

Well, thats the thing I want to test. A dragon should be a unit you really take care of until its "old" (aka experienced). Then they should be strong. It's one of the most dangerous creature in the world of fantasy. According to the fights I've changed almost every single creature in the game so you don't level up so quick. And then I could always change exp. needed before leveling up level 7 creatures. So question remains, how can I have them go from a measly 50hp to the nice 600hp??

- Gremlin - propably it is Jermlaine (in 2E), but didnt found them in 3,5E.
- Serpent and Dragonflies - possible Giant Dragonflies.
- Demons and horned demons (need two specific demons) - there are no any Heroes' demons, pit lords or devils in 3,5E i suppose...
- Ghost and Blood dragon - ghost dragon is just any dragon with "ghost" template. There is no Blood Dragon.

Dendroids - Treants: Well perfect. How did I miss that one?
Dragon fly - Giant Dragonfly: Where do I find the stats for these?
Demons - Pit lords and Devils occupied already, but there are a lot of "sub-demons". Gonna keep looking.
Ghost Dragon - You mean like for example taking the stats from a Green dragon, make it undead, other abilities, and maybe incorporeal. That seems a little overpowered. Gonna keep looking
Behemoth - Well they are actually in 4:th ed, but there they are some kind of lizards. Not gonna work.
Firebird and Sacred phoenix - The problem is that I've already used Phoenix as a Phoenix. And that's already a high level creature. So a Sacred phoenix is my biggest problem.


I suppose u cant do it using death blow, but u can create ur own death blow (show animation and then multiple the damage the defender receives).

OK, enlighten me, how do I pull that of? Guess the animation could be the same but how do I change the damage????


And regarding your script, I'm gonna check that one out this second. Sounds VERY VERY interesting indeed...
