Poll Question:
Which would you save: your pet or a stranger?
Ok, this question was asked on another forum that I post on, and I was aghast with the results. So out of curiosity I'd like to ask the same question here:
If you were forced to save either a complete stranger's life or your pet's life, which would you save? Let's say that the stranger is a midlife adult; everything else about them is unknown.
For me, I would save the stranger.

Ok, so let's say you're a witness. Your wife is on a railroad track, and so is some guys dog. The guy jumps on the tracks, grabs the dog and pushes him off the tracks in time, and then you're wife gets run over. You are in this area alone with this person. What do you do, and what is going through your mind right now?

I hate these stupid pulls. As if in such a situation the clouds would part and a voice would say. "Save your pet or save that stranger."
The situation and the question is purely hypothetical because you would just save what would present itself to save, what you could save and what would need the most immediate attention if you had a choice.
Besides, no one knows what they would actually do if they were really in such a situation.

I would save the stranger and hope that he/or her was worth saving .
Life sometimes gives as occasions when any of the given options aren't good and we must decide and choose.

Perhaps. If you were ever in rushed situation like this, you wouldn't have time to sit around contemplating it. Although what you answer in this poll is mostly likely how you would intuitively react in a situation like this.

I guess the stanger, maybe my pet? I really wonder............ i would atleat start running and make a choice when it happend.

Ever hear that one about the guy who had to either kill a train lod of people or his son? It was because the son climbed onto something, and a train was heading for a bridge not yet erect. he had to erect the bridge and kill the boy, or kill the train load and save the boy.
Anyways, it depends on how well and long I knew my pet.

I'd immediately wake up from that rather bad, but illogical dream, feel relieved and make sure my wife was still lying at my side.

That this is the dumbest scenario I can ever imagine myself being trapped in. First off, I wouldn't marry someone stupid enough to wander around traintracks when a train is approaching. The same with the stranger's dog. Secondly, I wouldn't blame another human being for looking after their own interests because that is what people do.

If there were witnesses the stranger.
If no witnesses my pet.
But if the stranger happened to be a hot chick or a child then her no matter what.

How do you figure that?
Everyone who has taken this poll has done so from the comfort of their chairs aftr at least a few seconds of reasoning.
Whereas intuition has nothing to do with reason or sitting in a chair or deciding anything.

While i love my cats very much, I don't give squat about some unnamed stranger. I would sacrifice him for my cats without a moment's pause.
I fail to understand how can you care for someone you don't know over something you do.

As I don't have pet, I am free to help the stranger  However, if my younger sister might be considered as one (pet, not stranger), I'd sacrifice her even if the situation was not critical

I believe people call that compassion or some crap like that. I've been told I have very little of it but I'm an attorney, so it's ok.
