Poll Question: The pop-up, the floating and the sense
In the pre-release videos the narrator was speaking very highly -and really proud and satisfied- about how much they managed to simplify things, discarding useless, time-wasting things. For example no pop-up windows when visiting adventure-map objects.
I had not much business with them till a friend pointed out how weird it is that visiting a mere (tattered) flag rises an army's moral. And so on we can continue:
how comes that a mill gives you sulfur or gems?
why does a planetarium increase the power of a magician?
and what exactly is so lucky about a pile of rock? (stone-idol)
For those who played heroes for ages and read the messages these are evident, and I do admit that those pop-ups were anoying after a time, but hey! Did it not make the logic shorter or rather: the atmosphere?
We found that it would be nice if there were an option to turn pop-ups on/off.
What is your opinion on the matter?
Poll Results:

I don't want pop-up windows. HoMM5 is just great in this.
2 votes (13%)
I do want pop-ups. I'm a loremaniac, read-o-freak, clickin'-ic, whatever.
9 votes (60%)
An on/off option would be good, I like to read some of those things.

An on/off option would be good, but I would always tunr it off.
1 votes (7%)
I don't agree with an on/off option. Let it be this or that, don't mix it up.

I'm voting out of boredom, but I don't want it to bias the poll results.

Voted for the third option. I'd like an on/off feature.

Its just annoying. This is not an RPG...
Still, some people might like the stupid and weird HoMM3 texts, so it should be a turn on/off option.

Interesting, you have 2 options for removing pop-ups permanently, but none for including them in the same way. Voted on/off, I do read many of those things.

I also vote for an on-off option. Some of the pop-up texts were great, especially in Heroes IV.
That game had excellent pop-up messages, I never skipped them. In a way, they contributed to the atmosphere.
@Xerox:
THe pop-up messages in HoMM III weren't stupid, they had charm. Check this one:
"Upon cresting a small hill, you come upon a ridiculous looking sight. A Sprite is attempting to carry a shield almost as big as it is. Trying not to laugh, you ask "Need help?" The Sprite glares at you and answers "You think this is funny? Fine. You carry it. I much prefer flying anyway."

"I do want pop-ups. I'm a loremaniac, read-o-freak, clickin'-ic, whatever." It is ment this way. It's not a typo of "I don't want..." It means I indeed/really want... or so I think it means...

Personally, I don't care for such things. I've played Heroes 3 about a gazillion times, and I don't even remember ever seeing such a message. But then, an on/off option doesn't cost me anything, so I voted option 4 "An on/off option, but I would always turn it off.".

Sorry, shoddy reading on my part.
An interesting and surprisingly important topic, things like this may not seem important to many faction developers, but as part of the interface I feel it's going to have a disproportionately large effect on game sales.

Well, I don't think it would affect the sales myself. But it -in my opinion- is that particular "splinter". It does not count that much, but finding a right way for it would cause a suprisingly big "ease". And people would say: "Yes, now that's how it should have been all the way." If an on/off option would have such effect I don't know, but I don't think this (floatings) is the perfect solution.

A "Glideup" telling it, fades out over............. letters/readingtime + X second?
Like the current pickup thingy. But some events will need it, if you want someting more scrited or storywise. Maybe a "popup/disabled/glideup" in the editor?

That's another option I hadn't thought about (my virus-killer auto-update does that).

Now I remembered one of the things that made me like H3 so much (the few times that I've played it, heresy I know...)
It's the RPG feeling... I loved those messages!!
Still, I voted for an on/off option, people can get annoyed I guess...
