GameFAQs mods make me RAAAAAAGE
(or, rather, one certain mod.)
As some of you may know, I frequent the GameFAQs Politics board. It's a nice board, although full of trolls and people derpa-derping, but there are numerous people with whom a reasonable discussion is actually possible. And, since it's a Politics board, some members decided to have a Mock Election about half a year ago. It was pretty successful, although there the winner did a massive voter drive to have people from other boards come and vote for him, and so he won. But that election helped contribute to the board's culture. Many inside jokes were born.
Three months later, Mock Election II was held. That time, voters were required to be registered, and it was a generally more successful election.
I didn't pay much attention to the first two Mock Elections. I didn't bother registering to vote in the second one. But then Mock Election III was held, and it seemed pretty interesting, with a lot of debates, and an actual sort of governmental system being established. There was even a Supreme Court and a Congress. I decided to run for Board 261 (Politics) Congress, and got in. I was thinking, "Hey, this is pretty fun."
And then a mod comes and deletes every topic to do with the Mock Election.
So we were displaced, and formed a government-in-exile on the Chicago Syndicate board (a dead board without any topicality rules). We eventually found out that the mod Burgess was responsible for these atrocities. (Note that another mod, Wally, actually participated in all of the Mock Elections.)
Then we found a board where the mods actually interacted with the common folk. And a member created this topic. And Burgess came and replied. This is what he wrote:Quote:

It was done because it wouldn't be allowed on any other board with topicality. Even if you are the politics board, doing a little mock congress or whatever is off topic since like I said before, it's nothing more than a board popularity contest. It comes down to a bunch of people who are too full of themselves who think they get to act like they run the damn place when in fact they do not matter any more than the next poster to come along.
Now before anyone jumps on me thinking that I am thinking too much of myself, I am not. A trained monkey can do this job. It'd probably do more than some people, but that's another matter for another time.

...seriously though, doesn't matter. At least as far as I can see it. He decided to overlook it. I didn't. Here's something that might totally shock and amaze you. A lot of the topics were marked. By people on the board. I know I know, I'll wait while you pull yourself back off the floor from passing out due to your brain being overwhelmed with something that you cannot possibly fathom happening. I already think he's not one of my biggest fans, but whatever.
Apparently I'm not the only one who thinks that the topics were right to get moderated, since they got upheld. If not, they would have gotten kicked back to me, and not a single one was. And most of the time, when I get one back to me, I probably do overturn it.
I'm also going to give you a piece of advice to pass on, or I can just wander over to the new board and do it myself since they're not being subtle on where they moved to: I'd knock it off with the troll nomination topic. That to me is a bunch of bull**** straight up. It just adds another level of elitism that I'm not too fond of, and it's also something that can be considered trolling as well, even over there.
And as for the "taking over other boards" talk that they're doing...I'd quit while...well I'd just quit. Just saying is all.
Call me a hack, call me a hurricane, call it an abuse of power, doesn't really matter to me. I saw something that ultimately amounts to no more importance than a seconds topic on a board with topicality, and it had to go. And they will continue to go. Either by my hand, or God forbid because this did in fact happen, OTHER MODERATORS. No, I'm not the only one that hit anything. Majority yeah. But whatever, I'm the one that decided to address the situation. And as for LF...doesn't matter where it was seen by me. Yeah, I posted over there, but it was in jest. At first. Then after looking more, well...

...I think this picture is more fitting, and makes a lot of sense when you think about it.
The only time I've ever seen so much fail on the Internet was when CH closed the Observatory.
So, why am I making this topic? I have three reasons: I want to rant  , I want to show HC members that not all the Internet is so tranquil, and I want to thank the HC mods - even though you guys are human beings, you are still leaps and bounds better than any mods I've seen anywhere else.

The proper way to solve this would be, of course, to set up a Politics: Social Board, and move the topics over there, but that'd mean that the mods would actually have to work. Nope, can't have that.

That's the big reason I don't go to that site anymore. It's full of morons. At least the moderation here is excellent and they are efficient in what they do. That's probably one of the big reasons why this site is good and it works well.

Yeah, GameFAQs mods are the pits. That's part of the reason I stay holed up on LUE most of the time.

GameFAQs isn't really full of morons, though. It's just that the modding is atrocious. Sometimes people post stuff that can be considered offensive and mods post and lol in the topic, and at other times the same stuff gets people banned.

GameFAQs is a stupid site with a stupid name
It doesn't even have anything to do with FAQs, I mean the politics stuff. Heroes Community is at least a community.
Now sure there are plenty of sites with off-topic forums, but can you believe there are even sites that actually pay for every post? (obviously not trolling one-liners). Why waste time on GameFAQs?
(HC at least, we are all addicted to it )

Why the hate for GameFaqs? I can go there to look at an assembled collection of faqs and also read some informative fan reviews. Maybe you don't like the forum part that doesn't mean the whole site is worthless. In fact the name of the site is very descriptive of actual content on the site.

Much like at HC, there is more off-topic than on-topic at GameFAQs. Board 261 is pretty fun - at least it's not full of socialists like the OSM is.

I didn't say that there aren't any socialists. I just mean that it's not a stronghold of socialism like HC is. There are a few socialists - reasonable ones (not 9/11 truthers).
Whenever I go to the OSM and say that markets are often a force for good, I am frequently mobbed by people yelling things like "Immoral!" "Selfish!" and "Naive!" Whereas there, though that happens to a certain extent as well, a relatively low number would do away with capitalism, and there are plenty of people to my right. At HC, I feel like I'm far-right. At Board 261, I fell like a classical liberal of the center - as I should.
You wouldn't believe it, but there I frequently argue for a greater government role in the economy in certain areas.

I remember when Luc said that he became a Mod (ROFL), and after three days he was kicked out from the entire boards. Imagine what he did as a Mod
