Important message regarding to RPG's

I, myself, have violated this rule a lot. I am sorry to have done that and I do not see change of that in the near future. I feel that I should be stripped of my third red star consequentially.

This article was written by Deatant2 from the roleplayer guild

I have been thinking, and have realized that the most annoying thing on the RPGuild forums is generated by the players. YOU. I can guarantee that anyone with more than fifty posts to his/her name is guilty of one of the most annoying crimes of role-playing, a crime which leaves people wishing it hadn't happened every time, a crime that is impossible to stop, or even control a lot. This crime has annoyed me more times than I can count, has once made me 'pull a stunt' as one of the moderators called it, in the On Topic Discussion. This crime is:

Not meeting a commitment.

That's it. Simple. I can personally guarantee that every single person reading this article has done it. Maybe not on the RPGuild forums, maybe not for a couple of years, but you still do it. What annoys me, as an RPGuild member and regular RPer, is that people do it here. The thing is, there is no excuse, nothing that will regain you that trust, short of not actually having a computer, and having to use a friends' one. Even then, you should let the thread owner know that you will not be a regular poster. There is no excuse for not doing what you have said you would, even if it is in the unspoken understanding between thread author and RPer. The thread authors have a commitment as well, to continue posting, until no one else at all is posting. In the remainder of this article, I will explain what, why, how, who and when you should and shouldn't meet a commitment.

Note: actually, there are a couple of excuses. Like death, or every computer within ten kilometers being destroyed.

When you shouldn't meet a commitment

Never.

When you should meet a commitment

Always.

Why you should meet a commitment

This one is a little longer. The reason you should always meet a commitment is based around trust. Not just the trust you get from others, also the trust you have of yourself. You shouldn't have to plan with an extra ten minutes to get somewhere, or do something. If you trust yourself, you will never let down others, because you know yourself, and can set reliable commitments, dates and quality. If you have to say, "Well, I'll try to get it in on Monday...but I might not have it done, so don't expect it until Tuesday. Also, the quality it needs...well I might not be able to get it that good..." Then you do not trust yourself. You might as well have a sign strapped to your back that says, "Do not trust me." Because of just how easy it is to spot someone who cannot be trusted. If you join a thread, and decide to take a little of your weekend away from your friends to get a thread started properly, can you imagine how annoying it is to find that someone has decided to go away for the weekend without telling anyone?

Once, a while ago now, I found out I was going away for the weekend. I spent an entire half hour sending PMs to people explaining why I wouldn't be posting over the weekend. Another time, more recently, my little brother crashed the computer, but I still borrowed my father’s computer, and sent some messages to say why I couldn't post. I explained beforehand, thus releasing myself from the commitment I had made earlier, and no one got angry at me. I don't think I annoyed people too much, as I let them know, so that they could make allowances for me. It's just that easy! This is one of the key factors in a commitment:

It is not final, if you explain beforehand.

What a commitment is/How to meet it.

Meeting a commitment is easy, and it differs each time, but one thing stays the same. Do exactly as you said you would, or more. As I keep saying: It's just that easy! If you said you would post once a day, post once a day. If you said that you are not going to be available all the time because of soccer training, university studies etc, you post at least once every two days, unless you specifically say, "I will only be able to post a couple of times a week." when you sign up for an RP that you like the look of. This lets the RP author decide whether to let you get in or not. It isn't just a matter of being a good writer, or having a good character! You have to be available.

On the RPGuild In the glade, as I see it, there is a basic commitment that you should meet, unless you say something different:

1) I will post once a day, if there is an opening to do so (For example, you will not double post or post out of turn in a turn-based RP.)

2) My grammar and spelling will be perfect, with allowances for spellings in different countries (For example, Meter and Metre are both correct spellings.)

3) I will not dramatically change the story in a way that may annoy other players (For example, do not introduce yellow fever onto a ship.)

4) I will not attack another player, unless I have their permission, and it will not interrupt the RP for more than one post. (You may wish to organize the entire post with the other player before you post.)

5) I will obey the wishes of the RP author, in regard to the RP.

Aww...but it's fun to:

a) Write around players who are absent for long periods of time.

b) Take long hiatus for whatever reason.

And seeing as how I'm guilty of both of the above...

Seriously though, posting in a forum RPG is supposed to be fun. It shouldn't have to be a commitment like taking out the trash or going to work.

Yes, of course, it should be fun and maybe not so rigorous as it's described here, but if someone signs up to play and makes an investment of time into the thing and others don't, thena certain trust has been broken.

most people here follow this commitment, so usually there's no problem, but I, myself, broke this on several occasion and probably either slowed down or killed an entire thread...

This could apply to some MMOs as well, especially if you are in a guild. And then people wonder why are MMOs 'addicting'

Ok now in all seriousness I kind of agree with this, I mean it is your responsibility to participate in the RPG and be active once you joined, or at least inform the other players that you can't for whatever reason. Being absent without any kind of track is kinda lame and annoying, unless something really tragic happened to you and can't even go to an internet cafe to make one post.

Even though I am a MoD of the Glade, I am one of the most guilty at this.  I have a notoriously short attention span, and if something does not grab my interest then slap and shake it for good messure..chances are I even forget to post I am no longer interested.  Even those that keep my interest I tend to not post on a 'regular' basis.  (Again the chaotic and forgetting happens).

All I can say is .. if I tell you I am gonna participate you may have to send a reminder HCM from time to time.  I do not intentionally forget to post, I just have a horrible attention span.

Does that mean you want me to PM you whenever the Pokemon RPG updates? Assuming winter manages to crawl out of whatever exam/computer trouble swallowed him whole this time, of course.
