I agree, Guinness is an excellent beer. Nothing is creamier and smoother than a guinness. But I find it is lacking in overall flavor. 7 of 10

Guiness? It's ok. But if you want a really good stout, here are a few of my favorite options:
Southern Tier Imperial Chokolat Stout
Probably one of my top 5 favorite beers. It's just fantastic. Southern Tier also makes a good oatmeal stout (not to mention dozens of other great beers).
Old Rasputin Imperial Stout
Young's Double Chocolate Stout
Finishes just slightly behind Southern Tier's chocolate stout. You'll actually often find this in a can, with a widget.
Lancaster Milk Stout
(Good luck finding this one, I don't think it's nationally distributed but you might get lucky.)
Dogfish Head Chicory Stout
I just tried this one recently and I really liked it. Of course, I like just about anything from Dogfish Head (they also make a fantastic series of IPAs). Probably one of the best, if not the best, breweries in the US.
Sam Smith's Oatmeal Stout
A classic. Oatmeal Stouts are a little more bitter than other stouts, being made with oats, but that's part of their charm. 
Bell's Kalamazoo Stout
Kind of expensive, but still pretty damn tasty. Bells also makes a Double Cream Stout that's pretty good.
Saint Peter's Cream Stout
Rogue Shakespeare Stout
Another fine brewery that makes several stouts. Try them all!
Anyway, there are a few of my go-to's, off the top of my head. If I think of any more, I'll add them.
And for those who don't know, like a good cheese or red wine, when you drink a stout, don't drink it ice cold. You completely subdue all the flavor compounds when you do.

Chocolate Stouts and Coffee Stouts are pretty popular and common among craft beers.

And (until recently) many of them don't even have chocolate or coffee in them. Often, they're just named that way because of the flavor compounds in them, resulting from the roasting process, that resemble those found in coffee or chocolate.
(Also, you'll find American beermakers are brewing with just about anything these days. Case in point, Dogfish Head makes an interesting brew called Raison D'Etra that's brewed with raisins. They also make an "extra powerful" version called Raison D'Extra with a whopping 20% ABV. Don't drink that one on an empty stomach.  )
