anybody an idea?

hello,

i am new and i want to reach the middle of the skillwheel, is it possible to reach it to 100 %. how i have to skill? first the basicskills then the second ring and then the third ring. or i prefer a second ringskill instead of a basic skill and if i take logistic (for example i dont need logistic) is the skillwheelway destroyed?
i find it not good that sometimes only two choices for skills are appearing is that normal, that is mostly the reason of destroying my way to the middle (
i read in some threads that the middle is not so important, but is here anybody who is going to the middle of the skillwheel (the ultimative) succsessfully? who and mostly with which fractions? thx in advance your

It is rather difficult to reach the ultimate skill for the towns.  Some heroes in the towns can't do it period without a Memory Mentor.  Go to www.celestialhavens.com and look for the skill wheel they have.  If you click on the ultimate skill of whichever faction you want, it tells you how eactly to get it.  Then you have to look at the starting skills of each hero, to see which starts off with a chance to reach it (without memory mentor).

Even then, luck, skill choices etc can mess up your plans.  Not to mention most, if not all of them, have less then optimal skills/perks needed to get them.  Which can put you at a disadvantage until you manage to get it. It is a lot easier then when it first was released, but it still is rather difficult.  Normally it is only possible if you find a Memory Mentor, as luck of the draw usually provents the Ultimate Skill without it.

hi, thx for your answer! i am sad for this to much lucky choosing out of skilling the ultimate (the middle of the skillwheel). i would prefer to skill more without luck, maybe to choosing out of 6 choices not 4 or 2 choices. then i think its more fun to get the skills which somebody wants and if you make good fights u have your right to earn the correctly skills u planed. for example its not alone for the ultimative, its an example for all ways you want to go depends on the maps and opponentsfaction. mostly i dont got the things i wanted, yes its up to my luck, sure ). but 4 choices of this big skillwheel, puhh.
but what u are telling about this.

your janmar

ps. my opinion is : to levelup more and quicker to reach the skillwheelultimate and one skillfield more for logistic and 1-2 fields more to destroy the opponentsway ).
btw. i love this game since 1999 h3 then h5 2005 and i only want to help and wants to support the development with respect for the mathematicians and developers. maybe it crystallized to big one faction or one heroe. i dont know. but that what i wrote is the infuriation of my luck and i want to know from an expert which is the best chance percently on which way to reach the ultimative which must be very good and give maybe an cutting edge, that would be right i find if the % exists.

ps1. i got the ultimative one time with necro ) 2 years ago but i lost against inferno(.
a friend did get the ultimative two times with inferno and it was a very big endfight against him and i lost too ).

Do have anybody from the profis good experience with the ultimate?

ps.2 yes, the mentor is good, but then i dont understand the reason to skill so unlucky, if i can change and doing the correct skills at the mentor.
all people wants to skill first warmachine or lightmagic to make big boarders to do the map fast to reach the mentor and then skill the right things for the opponent but not all factions get warmachines or lightmagic and then its unbalanced or i am wrong, hmm, good mentor?

My personal experience says almost never go for ultimates. First of all a good number of the maps do not allow you to get them in time. Secondly if the map does allow your your opponent can possibly rush you before you are ready. Thirdly absolute builds are typically bad for creeping so opponent can move faster, more efficiently than you. Except maybe with sylvan and inferno that has decent, easy to get skills. Finally as Mysty said it's very very easy to miss the ability just because you had to choose between two abilities you don't want. And mentor is not present in all maps.

In short you have to know exactly what you are doing. Know average level the map allows, how hard creeping is, how important logistics are on the map, how fast opponent can reach you, presence of mentor..

I agree, more choices at level up would be a good thing.

I think that all the ultimates have at least 1 skill or perk that is only 2% chance.  I could be mistaken.  So precentage wise I think they are all pretty much the same, but if Elvin says that there are two easier to get, believe it.  He is one of the best I know .

My best experience with the Ultimate is Stronghold.  It is a hard build for creeping, but if you manage to get it, it is extreamly powerful. I only managed to get that once, but it is the ONLY ultimate I have gotten without a memory mentor.

As for War Machines, yeah it can come in handy but there are several towns that it just is not needed.  Necropolipse and Academy to Name a few.  Though Havez for Academy and Kelspar for Necropolipse can sure come in handy .  Dungeon can creep pretty good if you know what you are doing, without a single warmachine.

thx elvin, well so far two abilities to choose in the end is not much but i thought maybe the right ability appears to 90 % or 70 % of both or what percent?

thx mytical,

hmm, how is it possible to do utopia (22 dragons)with dungeon so early like haven or sylvan. which skills do you pick up to do as fast as you can or it depends on heroe? for example map: land of the outcast on normal difficulty in week 2 or 3 in the underground and is it then the best skill for the opponent or do i must skill otherwise and do utopia later (the opponent is coming), i must go to skill for utopia and do with few losses, there are some of these utopias like the most tohmaps?

greetz

ps. for example, elfelite did utopia with wyngaal on day 7 week 2, maby it was little utopia but which are the best skills for dungeon to do utopia with little trupps?

Wyngaal is not a very good example for anything.  He can be insanely strong.

I don't know what skills (not a good dungeon player) I rememebr that with Dungeon creeping use to be a breeze with stealthed creatures.  Enter combat, stealth..Hero kills the creatures..rinse and repeat.

Maybe Deep Hydras, Arcane Armor, Elemental visions?

You should know what is the optimal leveling for each map, if map has say a hunter dwelling and it's easy to upg arcanes even without high level sylvan can be deadly. Add stormwind and mass haste, there you have it. But if map allows dungeon to creep fast an ignited fireball and 7 invisible stalkers can solve many problems Only advice I can give is sacrifice a secondary to know what you are facing.

good idea thx, when do u decide to skill magic which magic? if you bought in town the lvl 3 magic or before if you play a map like twilight with one town?
arcanemagic is lvl4 i think and needs many rescources, i have to build creatures or magic? because maybe i waste skills what do the profi do?
in my opinion: the town must be showing all magic spells before until lvl 1-5 which can be learned, so i know before, which charakter i can build powerful and dont run to any book on a map. the same to the runes and if its not so daunting and the player see in the beginning that resurection is not in town or he can learn lightmagic to 2 % and dont want to continue. it will be better that all spells are in town . then i would try more other magics and are rich in variants and i think more fun is guaranteed or it will be boring in time, hmm ?! but on sylvan the might is with the creatures constant to make utopia alone without magic. but with dungeon and wizards to much luck with the spells. or what u say?

Typically I know what magic I want to pick unless I find early interesting spells, a scroll or know the map has an arcane library. Then I may change my mind and try something else. Building mage guilds asap is probably not the best idea unless you are aiming for a week 2-3 rush with magic faction, I rarely build higher than mage guild 2 in week 2-3. Castle and tier 7 is almost always preferable.

Also dungeon and academy are not as luck based as you think. Anyway let's not focus more on the factions, there are strategy guides in the temple for this kind of thing.

edit: I wanted to know what rules are the most used, but that is kind of mostly answered. I'd just like to understand the reason behind those rules.

Thanks

No Wyngaal -> Imbalanced like hell.

No Haggash -> Actually not sure how many ban her but I've known a few. Easily the most imbalanced barbarian, both in short and long games.

Ni hit&run -> Occasionally imbalanced, extremely annoying for most. If you get last stand you can get 3-4 casts and retreat then do it again and again. Many consider it dishonourable.

No mentoring -> Easy to hit&run enemy with several warlocks and retreat, no cost, high annoyance factor. If map is short you can pull off an easy victory at little cost, esp vs might factions.

No DV -> Reserved for Hall of Imbalance.

That's pretty much it.

Thanks a lot,

What is "no dv"... Ooh wait, Divine Vengeance.

Regarding hit & run, I agree it should be banned, however, in my last game, I have used a spy and run, is that considered badly (is it also part of hit and run). What I mean by that is that before the main battle, I sent a scout to look at the number of creatures and the stats of my opponent, I made sure not to kill anything in the process however.

I don't care much for definitions, if it's a weak hero I wouldn't really mind. But if you do that with a high lvl hero and the intent to hurt enemy without risk of retaliation it is a different case.

Let me clarify to be more clear... Elvin is so cryptic in his replys.  The answer to your simple question is if you dont kill anything and you just look.. Then that is perfectly fine.  Its not considered hit and run.

Nothing cryptic about that. If you complain about a lvl 1 hero casting eldritch arrow upon your week 7 forces then you suck
