To answer the question:
There was no way of gaining the visions effect in Heroes 2, but in Heroes 3 having rogues in your ranks allowed you to have a permanent visions spell.

Right about the HoMM3 part,wrong about HoMM2!There infact is a way to gain that in HoMM2!

And yes Ironfist it was the Chrystal ball in PoL that gives u visions.
