HoMM2 Map Archives
Due to an overwhelming demand for HoMM 2 Maps, I have started the HoMM2 Map Archives. It is much like the HoMM3 Map Archives.
Since I started it just today, the site has a ways to go of course. There are some 30 maps there now and I will be adding a lot more maps as I go along.

I just completed The HoMM2 Map Archves today. There are 675 HoMM2 maps and 3 files to use. 90 per cent of the maps are from the old Astral Wizard site complete with original Documentation. Enjoy!

I know how much you like to mod, Sal. Thought I would mention that I stumbled on a Sprite page that lists every single movement pic for HoMM2 along with it's pic number. A person may be able to use it to help Mod the game in some way.(Re color the creatures perhaps). If you joined the group, it's in the Link page. The page got me to thinking that it could be possible to do some stuff to the game.
Namely, this page:

Unless I clone my self several times, no way I get hardly enough time to accomplish my small projects.

Yes I already visited it. No need to take his stuff, it can be extracted directly from the lod.
BTW, HERE you can find a lot of useful objects from Heroes 2, extracted by a very skilled one.

So, after you recolor stuff, you can put it back in?

Sure, you can do whatever you want if have the tools. However, possibilities for WoG are much more interesting, and more likely to find someone who plays it, not like HoMM2.

Yeah, very familiar with Darklokes' stuff. And you're probably right about H3 being more popular that H2.
But these maps on the H2 Archives are from the Astral Wizard site from the mid '90's. With the original documentation! Very rare indeed. I wanted to make them available once again for those who still play the game, or just want to try it out.
I used to go to the AW daily back then.
It's kinda neat reading the documents from the 'Last Hope" series Corribus made while he was still a college student. Or reading QD's documents when he was a mapmaker...and so on. Brings back memories for me.

And people think that mods, databases and links are made by god, and forget to say a "thank you" (ten days without a reply?). A lone man has put all those 600+ maps one by one in free download. Come on people, a little "thank you" will not screw your keyboard.

To be honest? I'm realistically aware that the H2 Archives will not be as popular as the H3 ones. And that's not what I'm after. But for those people that go there, and want to play H2, they will get to choose from among the best maps ever made for that game. Once lost, now found.
And thanks for the support Salamandre. Hope you like the site. If nothing else, download the maps just to read the documents. They are just as entertaining as the maps themselves.

You said it. ByteBandit, a thousand thanks - I've been looking for many of these maps for years, and since Astral Wizard went down I thought they were lost forever. Many salutations.
I may see if Valeriy or Angelspit are interested in hosting the maps at the other fansites as well to prevent them from becoming totally lost, in case the Yahoo servers are ever caught in a volcanic eruption or something.

I'm all for whatever it takes to never lose these great works of art! And I will eventually be putting up more AW maps on the H2 Archives as time goes along. As well as those "Extremely" hard to find H2 maps elsewhere.

Ah, thanks to the archives I found 2 of my old H2 maps : Warlock King and Hellgate. I found links to my other maps but links were broken . I don't have any of them in my possession now because I changed my PC and didn't back-up them. "
My lost maps : magiciens.mx2, guerresainte.mx2 and magicka.mx2 . if somenone finds them or has them I'll be happy to see them again, specially the last one featuring Ergon the barbarian son of Crag Hack

Today's your lucky day. Someone just uploaded Magicka on the H2 Archives. Along with Hellgate. Have fun!

Thanks ByteBandit for your quick reaction . Unfortunately that person is me since I had found those in a french site. Still I think I will never see again the other two but it's not that important. I hope to be able to translate them in english soon since they are in french and some things are important to understand (specially magicka). It can still be played without story with common sense . Thanks for the great collection of maps, I still miss some maps from great H2 mapmakers such as Grayson Towler and Greg Schneider but I will look more in depht to find out what maps are missing...

Thank you ever so much for making a home for the Astral Wizard's maps, I had some of them myself but as usual had lost some in a hard drive crash. The last time I went searching to see if I could find any nothing was out there, the site was gone, and his robots.txt file had prevented the Internet Archive from saving them (boo hoo!). Today for the lulz I searched Astral Wizard and the first hit brought me to this site, and the second to this very thread.
Don't know that I'll be at all active here, as my interest is HoMM2, I have HoMM3 and HoMMIV but don't play them, but I felt I should register and leave thanks for what you have done.
So, again, Thank You Very Much!
