Of course, the treasure in question is the legendary Hoard of Tz'Lamek, the great ancient lizard king who is said to have found secrets beyond life.
That has led Garthlon, a mighty and power-hungry sorcerer, to seek out Tz'Lamek's hidden tomb-temple too, and find it at the same time as you. He casts a powerful spell that kills off you and your entire army, and then leaves with Tz'Lamek's most prized possession - the Crown of the Gods.
Upon your death, you encounter Tz'Lamek's spirit which offers you a chance of second life and vengeance upon Garthlon, in return for finding the Crown and bringing it back to the forgotten temple. You accept and turn half-dead, something like the crew of the Black Pearl. Your ship, the Red Dread, and its crew become cursed, and the only way to get rid of the curse is to fulfill your vengeance and return the crown. In the meantime, the Brits have arrived and started combating the Spanish Armada, and your task is to seek out the sorcerer in the midst of an ongoing colonial war between the Spaniards, the British and the native Lizardmen.
