has been dated to >35,000 years old.  (Nature (2009) 459, 248.)

Clearly, Ruben ripped off this artist.

There are earlier examples of what is believed to be art (ie, abstract representations) but those are less certain and obvious.

So yes, people did exist 40,000 years ago and it is very likely that they used language.

But that, as has been pointed out, is irrelevant to my point.

EDIT: Seriously, that post isn't even offtopic, it's just pure spam.

A forest called "skogensugeruss"? That's swedish for "the forest sucks uss" (dunno what the uss is about though)
A city on the southpole called "detarkalt"? That's badly spelled swedish for "it is cold"

It's just complete spam.

Are you sure? Perhaps it was satire or a spoof of fantasy literature. Spoofs are not unoriginal just becasue they are making fun of something.

I've also read different short stories making fun of fantasy (I love fantasy.) I've been playing a game called "Dragon Age: Origins" and just ran across a humorous random event refering to superman.

I've also enjoyed lots of differnt movies that spoof fantasy literature. Ever watch Motny Python's Search for the Holy Grail? How about Mel Brook's Space Balls? "Men in tights?" (a Robin Hood Spoof) Various films with Leslie Nelson.

Anyways, I enjoy a good spoof, and his spoof was not even directed at anyone on the board. I hope his QP is restored.

Nah you see, some people on this board just couldn't hold themselves any longer, they really wanted to give him a penalty (note: not necessarily mods, but also pressure from certain members) for a long time and didn't find an opportunity before. And of course when you are looking for any details (unlike in more casual situations) you will find such an opportunity no matter what.

The penalty was very exaggerated -- I wouldn't say necessarily ridiculous, but you might as well go and penalize any joke or satirical remark in the OSM now.

The problem is not so much with people's desire to watch what is familiar to them, but big companies who favour making solid profits over producing something original (and risky).

It's not just redneck consumers that are at fault here.

Obviously but there is a certain correlation. We are not arguing absolutes here.

None the less it's amusing to think how the problem would be easily fixed had the world not been all about money and making profit, ne ?

No it's also about snowing others

What do you know, we are finally getting somewhere. Have a look here, it seems that demand for reboots and sequels is dropping. That's one language that Hollywood will be sure to understand.

I'm sure they will find enough solace in remakes of older movies...
