Troubleshooting with multiplayer . Any help ?
Hi .
I like HoMM5 a lot ! a great game especially when playing with friends .
Unfortunately we experience some difficulties while playing .
1. Experiencing a lag and disconnects is a daily issue . Most of the times the lag is so much that it disconnects us after the first turns of the players /especially someone is fighting/.
Our network is fast and reliable and I just cant understand where is the problem .
Any advice?
P.S.
little info:
PC we are using -> intel dual core 2.4Ghz, Amd dual core 2.6Ghz
VGA: nvdia gforce 9500GT , Nvdia gforce 7200
RAM 3GB , 2 GB
net speed : around 1 MB per second.

I don't think that will help Larry
Hmm maybe your firewall doesn't like hamachi or H5? Have you checked if your windows or possibly other firewall has both in exception? If you are playing through ubi.com I've heard their servers have issues.

the only thing I can think of is another network program thingy like
gameranger.com
wippien
& see if they give same problems or at least diagnose what the problem is by telling you what the error message is.
or
set up portforwarding if possible on your broadband routers (only if you both know how to change settings on your router).

Gameranger saved me, but it was a totally different problem.
Those kind of issues (in other games - fps) are normally due to connection problems due to someones ISP or wireless internet cutting out.

Quote: ...where is the problem .
Well that is the basis of fault-finding isn't it?
It can possibly be bad ethernet port on computer, bad ethernet cable or wireless signal, dodgy ISPs, ISP-initiated slowdown after quota exceeded, router or proxy problems, other programs interfering...on & on & on[I'm not an IT professional]...but I'm assuming msn live messenger is no problems between you?...what about other game connections between you...& what about each of you checking connections with a third person?...what error message does gameranger give (if any)? what does hamachi say
for tx & rx data rates & pings compared to connections to other people etc etc etc
try not to use wireless as it is slower & may be not-so-good signal & thus more chance of lag/disconnect.
It is possible that the combination of equipment between the two of you is bad for compatibility/routing/NAT (I read that from hamachi forums)
have you tried port-forwarding or wippien?
it's not like you've given every possible detail & help can be better if more details are provided or even searching/reading on internet which requires some time tho...

1. when we ping through hamachi the ping is under 10 ms and there is no data loss.
2. i tried to play H5 with 3 different persons on the same internet supplier the effect was the same / lag & disconect/
3. game ranger gives no errors /after disconnect the room still exist/
4. no wireless is used /desktop PC /
i haven't tried the port forwarding thing. We don't have routers we use switches.
We played borderlands a while ago via garena.
I play warcraft TFT from time to time on garena there is no problem.
Stacraft via hamachi works fine too.
I have MSN and it works fine too.

so now full details come out
just check if your 3 opponents can play H5 ok against each other (not you)...
if they play H5 perfectly ok against each other, then you may have localised the problem to yourself only...
if above is true, then if other games work perfectly ok for you against others, it could be localised to your H5 even...try delete all other maps/mods/extra files/save games/full re-install

Hi, so Starcraft or whatever other game you play with those same players on hamachi still play perfectly ok NOW without disconnect?
Another weird thing that can happen on hamachi:
1. when Player A hosts a game, player B sometimes can't see it,
2. while if Player B hosts a game, player A will be able to see it
Perhaps try both ways & see how that goes?
FYI:I have had experience where hamachi connection to a particular person was no good for a time & then after a few weeks/months, it was fine again...likely that the connection between us thru the combination of routers/NAT was incompatible temporarily somehow but dunno why it came good again.
If your other gaming is ok with windows firewall, I wouldn't switch windows firewall off, just make sure H5TotE is on the exceptions list.
You wrote "no rooters available just switches"...but there must be some equipment that is used to connect to broadband that has settings etc that can open up ports etc?
AND you've tried "...delete all other maps/mods/extra files/save games/full re-install..."? [I didn't reply immediately because I did not see whether you had tried this]
You could always try ubi servers...
The laggy thing you mentioned is...interesting...You absolutely sure ethernet port/card/cables are ok & ISP is not slowing down connection due to download quota exceeded for the month or other users on common broadband not using up the bandwidth?
In the 4th post on this page, you said both use XP SP2 or higher...yet in last post you mentioned others use Win7?...I presume you've tried vs other XP SP2 users.
If all above are no good & give no further clues, the only way is for IT knowledgeable person to help you at your home I suppose, because people on a forum can't see everything you see...

hang on, don't give up man!
there may be other opponents plus networks change too so if you try again few months later, it may be different.
[note the player A-B problem doesn't mean you can't play, it just means it's better for one player to host game rather than the other...but yah these network type wishy-washy issues really sux]

Are you trying to play this on a LAN or over the internet with Hamachi? Are the computers you are trying to connect in the same room?
If your computers are in the same place and connected together in a LAN Hamachi is not needed but can actually cause problems.
For the last six months Hamachi has been extremely slow for me. Often Hamachi tries to make me use a relay server rather than making a direct connection between two computers. Their relay servers are terribly slow, especially for free users. Hamachi claims the only way to fix this problem is to buy the program for $200, but people who have paid still have problems. As SKPRIMUS said, sometimes Hamachi gives issues for a while then works. I've had games not work for a while then one day they work.

ok here is my last report .
I managed to play via gameranger without any lag or disconect with a guy from romania (i`m from bulgaria) so it is officially a NAT problem with people that use my internet provider.
I dont have access to the router so I`m helpless.
10x for all the help and advice .
I hope one day it gets fixed by itself xD
