Convert Age of Mythology units to Heroes3 using 3DS
This thread is a translation of original thread.
Now we start to convert 3D units and buildings from Age of Mythology in 2D format.
I. What we are need?
1) BARExplorer - can open archives with models and textures.
2) AoMEd - can convert models and textures to useful formats. 3DS for models and TGA for textures.
3) 3DS MAX. Don't ask me, how to get it!
4) Special scripts for 3DS.
5) Installed game "Age of Mythology" or "Age of Mythology: The Titans".
II. Lets start! Unpacking archives.
1) Start BARExplorer.
2) Menu File->Open. Go to folder with your game, open folder "Models", select "models.bar" (or "models2.bar").
3) Menu "Options->Preferences...". Select folder, where unpacked files will be placed.
4) Select one file or all (recommended) files and extract, using menu "Edit->Extract" or "Edit->Extract all".
Some comments. All needed files are have BRG-extension. The name of BRG consists of two parts. First - unit name, second - action name, which sometimes has a suffix.
III. Converting BRG-models to 3DS-models.
1) Start AoMEd. Click button "Direct file conversion". Select BRG-model, what you want to convert.
2) If you have no errors, put name for saved 3DS-model. If error, model is not useful for every actions .
3) Select "textures.bar" in "textures" folder.
If you have no message "Complete", you can successfully use model in next step. Else, may be model is broken, may be you made a mistake.
IV. Prepare 3DSMax. Make it once.
1) In 3DSMax folder go to subfolder "Scripts" and copy there "import_gmax.ms" (use for multitexture models) and "importsm_gmax.ms" (use for singletexture models).
2) Menu "Customize->Configure User Path…", select tab "External Files". Add folder with you saved 3DS-models.
V. Prepare 3DS-model.
1) Open 3DSMax if it is not opened. Menu "File->Import...", select 3DS-model, for example, "special n valkyrie_walka".
2) In popuped dialog box select "Completely replace…" and "Convert unit". OK. And now we have something...
3) Menu "MAXScript->Run Script…", select script "import_gmax.ms" and execute it.
Thats all! Now you can work himself, if you 3DS-user. Only noobs must read below.
VI. Animating in 3DSMax.
1) Using buttons "Rotate", "Pan", "Zoom" and moving mouse in viewport, place model to good view.
2) Menu "Rendering->Environment…", change "Background->Color" to cyan (RGB: 0,255,255) or other, what you need.
3) Menu "Rendering->Render", change "Time Output->Active Time Segment" (set range for animation), change "Output Size\Width" to 450, change "Output Size\Height" to 400. Scroll down and put in "Render Output" name and type (24-bit BMP is good) for you rendered images.
4) Click big button "Render".
For example, this graphic i got from "special n valkyrie_walka.brg"

Oh, men, i forgot my Age of Mythology CD, it must be somewhere around, hope i can find it, thank you anyways

You didn't need the CD to extract models(only if you don't have game installed )

I am trying wadjet and all OK. Verify your path for textures in
Customize -> Configure User path -> External Files
