Actually the legendary Manticore had a human face. The moden makeover it got from D&D probably, added its wings. The mythological Manticore never had any wings. However it did have that scorpion tail since the ancient myths.

The mythological Lamassu had a human face too. It had wings unlike the mythological Manticore. It was a divine creature unlike the Manticore again; the Manticore was a human eating monster.

The Sphinx was a unique beast. It was female, lion body and human face. Sometimes it was depicted with wings.

Anyway, the Manticore, the Sphinx and the Lamassu are all supposed to have a human face. What H6 designers did wrong with the Undead Lamassu is adding it that kind of monstrous tail. Lamassu was never depicted with such a tail in any legend. Adding this kind of tail, probably is what makes people mistake it for a Manticore.

The wings don't help either. The modern and more popular interpretation of the Manticore, has it with leathery bat wings. Lamassu of the myths and even in other modern versions of it has feathery wings. H6's Lamassu however, has leathery wings pretty much like the modern Manticore.

Also the facial characteristics of H6 Lamassu remind me more of the Sphinx than those of an actual Lamassu. Lamassu were always depicted with that persian style long beard and peaceful, calm looking face. Manticore's human face was always somewhat more demonic, if you will. The sphinx's human face was more grim although not monstrous (well, that's how it appeared to me at least).

My conclusion is that what I see in H6's Lamassu is mix between the Sphinx and the Manticore. Ofcourse, how important is all of that and the overall design of the creature, is just a matter of prefference. I for one, like it regardless of all that.

It's funny you say something like that, since Lamassu and Manticore are IDENTICAL, except Manticore has a LION face, whereas the Lamassu is a Manticore (undead, ok) with a stupid, boring HUMAN face.

How can you say they're completely different? They are both lions, have a scorpion tail, mane, wings, the only difference now is that Ubisoft messed the face up in H6.

You're missing the point. It's not "Ubi messing up with the face" that created another creature, it's a different creature altogether from different origins. It's a Mesopotamian deity originally but in Heroes this is a member of the beast-men while Manticore cannot be a beast-man since it lacks human element.

But if you think they are almost the same, then that's saying an elf is basically the same as a human, just "Ubi messed up the ears".

Please see my latest post, one after the one you quoted (I kinda explain there what I mean)

And about the Elves, well they ARE a human species, just like Dwarves etc. but of course, I'm not saying they "messed up the ears" lol. The only thing I was trying to say I hope for, is that if you claim the Lamassu to be different from the Manticore, I hope the actual Manticore will return as well in H6.

Overall I find the H6 Stronghold to be more interesting and better looking than H5 (Harpy ) - mostly because they don't look so demonic. And I like the Aztec vibe.

The cyclops, however

I agree with you that the Harpy is brilliant and Cyclops a bit exaggerated, but H5 still wins for me, just because not all units were humanoids (the cool Wyverns) it's a disgrace the Wyverns nor the Rocs/Thunderbirds are in H6

Water Dragon / Dragon Eel

Avatars of Shalassa, the Dragon-goddess of water, these creatures are often found protecting places both sacred and forbidden to common mortals. A Dragon Eel masters the magical powers from which it draws its name, and is summoned in times of great necessity by those closest to Shalassa. It is a force a nature that only the most courageous of armies would dare challenge in battle.

(Edit: it's listed as neutral creature)

Bosses are neutrals too, as in non-playable, I'm sure on the site they will be listed together because reportedly there are not many "regular" neutrals, I assume less than bosses.

Yep, bosses are considered neutrals and I'm grateful for it. Killing regular neutrals on the adventure map gets old eventually.

Hey, Elvin, does this mean we can run into bosses on normal maps where neutral guarding stacks would normally be? Interesting.

Don't think he meant that, just that bosses are giving new challenges, although I guess in the map editor you can most likely put bosses onto maps, but their cutscenes will be only shown in campaigns.

The eel appears to be flying in the video so it's going to be a jungle terrain with a bit of puddles indeed.

The Dragon eel is tagged as water elemental (instead of water dragon) on the french site, is that a mistake ?

So, Dragon Eels and Magma/Lava Dragons are avatars of Shalassa and Arkath, respectively? That's why they are elemental and Green and Black Dragons (which are children of Sylanna and Malassa) are living? Are there living dragons from water and fire realm? If there are, than if complicates things. Couldn't they just make all dragons either elemental or living.

I hope they cut elementals in this game as we already have this water woman which pretty much resembles an elemental.

There could be male earth elementals and a salamander for fire, then a sylph for air.

Spring spirit is a water elemental, just like glory is light elemental.
I doubt there will be any neutral elementals at all, since they seem to be in factions.

The Centaur

Like the Harpies, Centaurs are Beastmen, created by the Wizards of the Seven Cities in the year 512 YSD.
Half-human and half-horse, they served their masters honorably as scouts and mobile archery in their armies.
But those days came to an end when the Wizards replaced them with their new creations, the animated constructs. The various Golems, Gargoyles, Titans, etc. were simpler to manage, cheaper to keep, and unfailingly obedient.

The Centaurs were given less and less noble tasks, and ended up carrying messages and pulling carts.
Disgruntled at their loss of prestige, they willingly joined the Revolt of the Beastmen and scattered across the face of Ashan, seeking space, dignity, and freedom.

They soon met with the Orc tribes and became their allies, out of common interest and like-mindedness.

The Marauder Centaur is the upgraded Centaur
