(question)Is the HoMM5 universe post-apocalyptic?
Im not very knowledgeable on the lore, but I am given the impression that HoMM6 is definitely more advanced than the Ashan we currently have. We have pikemen instead of peasants, crossbow men that look like robocop, and ghouls that actually would make me respect Orson if he was around in the timeline.
So my question is, was there any catastrophic event that could explain the falling out of grace for the Haven faction?

Or maybe it's just a different timeline?
Maybe in this version of Ashan, technology has improved at a faster rate than in HOMM5's Ashan.
Of course that's just wishful thinking. 
(We're stuck with the timeline that has such "gems" in existence like Isabel and Findan. -_-)

Exactly, so why is the technology more primitive than that in H6 if it happens after H5?
The only reason so far that i can see is that there was a big event that left the factions in a state of disrepair.

You miss the point. His point is that H5 is a DOWNGRADE in technology compared to H6.

I was talking about H6 compared to H5. Seriously, where do you see H6 technology being better? In that there are no peasants? In the helmet looking different?  Seriously now.

As far as I know, it's just different art direction. Most of H5's units were just Warhammer miniatures converted to 3D, and the devs know it only too well. H6's units are to be considered more "definitive" representations of creatures in Ashan.

I do believe that making the game similar to Warhammer was the goal when developing Heroes V.

But they are clearly keeping the warhammer tone, because while the design department is focusing on a more seriuous/detailed aproach, is still inspired by warhammer art. (BlackHole = MarkofChaos anyone??)
Just look at those wights/zombie thing in H6, the same pose, the same spikes, THE SAME COLOR... or the Necron Nex..Undead castle... Anyway, better for me, WH fan here .
And the new look H6 has is fantastic, however, since it's changing the gameplay pace and dropping a lot of H5 factions/features, I know H5 will be always unique, just like all HOMM games.
