Does the game look 3D to you? I think you can get your answer from there.

then my next question is, what program they used? because, i have no idea how they can make such things how we can make a non-scratched good-looking creature? whith a smooth animation, haven't seen any whatsoever. and about the buildings, they could easialy used a 3d program. but i have no idea of the texture

Well, if I were them I think I do this (as a graphician):
Predraw the parts with pencil or something and colour them on PC then make it all together. It is easy way to do and the scanned and resized picture looks almost every time better than the original. PhotoShop is almost ideal for this if someone know how to use it.

However... Made 3D models and animate them is another way. Just need the angle and go! I think H3 creatures and models are rendered...

So it is hard to answer your question exactly. Maybe mix all the techniques mentioned earlier...

Are you sure of that Cepheus? First version of 3DS max was released late 1996 and Heroes 3 released in 1999. I guess they started on graphics <> 2 years before release, so it is very close, and the program was still in beta. Besides this, all creatures and buildings have all details designed on the right perspective, which is unusual when using 3D programs.

Yeah, it's the truth. Here's some evidence from the artists themselves:

ah that's reasonable. interesting indeed i where asking this to make stuff the way "they" are doing, so it would fit perfect whith 3ds max its just to less-pixeled xD ill try make a mob based on a drawed picture (A) (even if i have not that much experience)

It is not much about the tools used, but about how skilled you are. I would say 15-20 years of practice and a good salary before making a creature close to original ones.

No.

But as far as I know Beholder was made in Blender and rest in 3D Studio Max (or maybe just 3D Studio?...). Stuff which wasn't in 3D were photos (town screens) and drawings (majority of portraits).

Oh thanks for the info!
this will take much practicing i know the basic stuff of 3ds max and made some objects. but this seems much harder, whith the texture too.
oh yea, is the texture made in the 3d program? (like maps in 3ds max) or just "drawed" on the 3d modelled object?
