Haha, I'm from Poland (live in England), and objectively I agree there is some truth behind both of the stereotypes 
The whole idea of west and east Europe seems to be somewhat more political, rather than geographical. E.g. Greeks consider themselves western, whereas in reality they are more to the east than Poland and Serbia, for example.

That's why I said "politically", whereas it's obvious geographically Greece is one of the easternmost countries in Europe 
I generally think that Europe should (I mean geographically) be divided into 5 regions: North, West, Central, East, and South; it would make so much more sense because I don't think it does how (e.g.) Germany is West, borders with Poland, but Poland is suddenly East, I consider Poland to be more Central. So my idea is somewhat like this (just a suggestion ) :
NORTH: Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland(I love Finnish  )
WEST: UK, Ireland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, France, Monaco, Switzerland, Liechtenstein
CENTRAL: Denmark, Germany, Poland, Czech Rebublic, Slovakia, Austria, Hungary (Magyarorszag), Slovenia
EAST: Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania(I love Lietuva ), Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Romania
SOUTH: Portugal, Spain, Andorra, Italy, San Marino, Vatican City, Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro (Chernogora), Albania, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Greece
This is just my vague idea.
