Lianna couldn't take it anymore. She collapsed into Simon's arms, unconscious. Davaian helped him take her up to her hammock. After that Davaian and Kalthak walked over to the captain's quarters.
"Well it seems as if we are short of a hand, and a mighty useful hand he was." said Arcturus. "But he is dead and that is that. Kalthak, you have proven yourself to be a great warrior and leader. I am therefore making you the raid chief. Move your belongings into the officer's quarters. I would say you shall take Nurgunnen's previous hammock, but it is downright disgusting. I say just move your hammock in there too. Seeing as you operated under him for a little bit before serving Davaian more, you already know the deal with being the Raid Chief. I hear you may have had a little problem with Eduardo before, but you are going to cooperate with him. That is an order. Dismissed."
Davaian and Kalthak walked out of the cabin and back to where Simon was, by Lianna's side.
"Should I go get the good doctor?" said Davaian.

"Yes, Davian. Please, go." Simon mumbled to his friend, kneeling along side Lianna's hammock. All of his hatred and anger had evaporated and been replaced by concern for Lianna... For the moment. He knelt by her side, subconsciously lightly brushing Lianna's forehead with his open palm. She was so small, so helpless. And he loved her. to see Lianna like this...
As Davian left to find the doctor, Simon lost all control of his emotions and he wept over Lianna. When Davian knocked on the door, Simon forced himself back to the edge of stability, holding back his bitter tears out of sheer willpower. "Come in." He croaked.

Eduardo was pretty baffled by the captains outburst, but he pretty soon turned his attention to grenade-fishing. It was something he learned in his short year in the artillery and quickly became a fun pasttime. Fresh food and explosions were things he enjoyed apart and together he enjoyed them even more.
Pretty soon they had a nice haul of fresh fish, most of which he sent to the galley to be prepared. Eduardo went to the Officer's Quarters gnawing on one of the smaller fish they had caught.
In the Officer's Quarters he soon found Kalthak moving his belongings in.
"Felicitationes on your promotion. Hungry?" Eduardo began. The look on Kalthak's face said him enough and he tossed him another fish.
"I know it's raw, but they're pretty good. Just don't get the fins stuck in your throat. Now explain to me something, if you would. I understand that just about everyone hated that seaswine, so did I. If only for the stench that came from him at night. But how can using an officer as bait, be explained as saving the situation?"

"He means you are resourceful and can quickly turn something bad into something good." said Kalthak as he devoured the fish in one swallow. "You know the captain admires, you, yes? He thinks that with time and more experience, you would be a good captain yourself."

Eduardo took a bite out of his own fish.
"Then he's mistaken. I am no sailor and I don't intend on becoming one. The second I can land a decent cavalry job, I am off this tub. But I suppose that 20 years of bending rules instead of breaking them, has left some marks."
Eduardo mulled some more over what Kalthak just said.
"Wait, hold. How in the name of the Fire Goddess can you tell he admires me? All I ever see him do is yell. And I've actually been trying to avoid him, to weasle my way out of doing actual sailing."

"Hehe. He wasn't always a grumpy captain of a pirate ship. He was once like you. A gun chief on a Fortrind ship he was. Didn't know a bloody thing about actual sailing. All he knew how to do was to fight and order other people to fight. He was like you, always trying to keep order on the ship. Eventually he learned to sail properly and how to navigate and everything. Then his ship went into battle with a couple Termingnan war vessels, back when they had some sort of naval power. Though he did well, and destroyed one of them, most of the officers died, and he became Captain through that. He quickly took control of the situation and won the battle. After that it gets a little fuzzy on what happened, but this is what Davaian told me. He won't talk about what went on afterwards."

"I can see where you're coming from and I can also see where it goes wrong." Eduardo said.
"First, being on a ship is not where I would like to be. I'd rather be on a horse. The only reason I am here is because I was insubordinate on my last job, which was being second in command in a vizier's personal cavalry regiment. I left the ship I was sailing on at the time the instant I got word of that job. And I will do the same again if the opertunity occurs."
Eduardo paused a while to rip a piece from his fish.
"Second, all that orderkeeping Vorschaw thinks I am doing is not what it seems. It's trying to profit from the situation. The brigfight from a few days ago. That was to get my guncrew on my side more than anything and delaying the point where I have to get involved into the ship's politics, because one of Piggo's cronies came asking for reinforcements. I rounded you all up to avoid choosing sides. No hard feelings about that? Anyway, Piggo's death just now. Oppertunity to do some fishing and get some fresh food for a change. Will's gunshot would probably not even have woken me up if I was here or down the deck. Thinking of that, my helmet is still lying by the bow." Eduardo said, scratching his beard.
"Still, the order can be damned if I can get better of it."
A thought popped into Eduardo's head.
"Did Davaian tell you anything about the capitan's plans while you two were locked up?"

And now you're an officer you're entitled to know and your opinion may be better heard now. The Capitan is planning to hunt for a broken up relic of the Wild Durok. No offence. He is following a map with no points of refference, drawn by a madman and deciphered by a witchdoctor on his deathbed. Now he may have told you this when he instated you a moment ago. He may have been too busy to bother."
Eduardo waited a moment to let it sink in.
"Now we're making a bit of a detour because Doctor Vulture needs some secret herbs and spices for his medicinal tea. And there is little telling what could happen along the way. Now I ask you, what think you of his plan?"

Eduardo finished his fish.
"I wish you good luck with disciplining Piggo's cronies. I am going to get my helmet and call a gundrill before Hervin or Bellerusse get any bright ideas."
Eduardo left the officers quarters. Once he got on deck he blew on a hunting horn, signalling a gundrill.

Geralt was smoking his pipe when Davaian found him.
- What is it you need?- asked Geralt before the first mate could say a word.
- Lianna. I need you to check up her.
- I see. There are a few ways to get rid of an embryo.
- What?
- Don't worry your head about it. After this I need Kalthak to come and see me, I need a sample of his blood. Nothing serious, just testing a new antidode.
The first mate looked questionably.
- Knowing that we are sailing to Durok lands, we need to be prepared. I'm developing antidotes for the venom of the snakes found in Durok empire. You wouldn't want anyone to die because of the bite of a twin tongued viper or other deadly snake, do you?
- uhm... Well...
- Bring Lianna to my cabin. I'll check up on her.

It has been three days since then and the Revenant neared the first island.
Arcturus called up all officers and the doctor to his cabin to discuss what their plans were.
"Alright. Geralt wants to gather some ingredients or something from this place, Fogan and Mat needs more food supplies, and I need find a marker on the island that Riande described in his journal." said Arcturus. "Kalthak and a couple men will accompany me while Fogan, Mat, Davaian and some other crew members find some food. Geralt can either go with either party or assemble his own band. Hervin and Eduardo will keep the ship in order while we are gone. Hervin will take care of domestic issues, but Eduardo is in command of the ship should anything go awry. Alright. Any questions?"

Simon kept his gaze neutral as Arcturus gave his commands, and then moved over to stand by Geralt. "I never got to fully repay you for what you did a few days ago. I would be honored if you chose to let me accompany you on this foray into the wilderness." The bard's offer was serious, despite the odd wording. "Also, doctor. If there is anything that I could do for you to help in your experiments, let me know." ((Note, Half-Elves are different from humans and elves genetically))
Pulling out his new instrument, this time it was an oddly shaped lute, he began to play a few new melodies, cheering up a few people who could hear them. Simon also hummed a little song to himself, calming some of the last of his stray nerves and emotions. The nearby crew members stopped to listen for a while until their superiors yelled at them and took their place, enjoying the free show.

Zayl fixed up Lianna quite nicely. Her broozes were almost gone. However the ape Nurgunnen was a fertile son of a b!#$h, and Zayl got to get rid of the embryo. This was the second time he used that brew. The first time he used it on the empress who had an affair with a young general. Another innocent death lied on Zayl's shoulders.
- Allright. I need three men to come with me. That'll be Simon, Armin and Miguel. What?- he looked at the sailor duo- Afraid that I'll steal your souls?- The rest of the crew laughed. Armin and Miguel released a rumor that Zayl might be an arch demon of some sorts. The crew quickly evolved this to a joke, laughing each chance that the duo speculated Zayl's origin. Most of the crew thought that Zayl hid a badly burned face behind the mask.
- When the anchor drops, report immediatly to me.

"No questions from me." Eduardo answered the captain as he gave Bellerusse the evil eye.
Eduardo and Bellerusse had not been getting along the last few days. Eduardo effectively locked down the gundeck when he was holding a gundrill, only letting people in he called for or the Captain. It had been several times now that Bellerusse sent a sailor to get something from the cargo-hold, only to be barred by Eduardo or thrown back out.
Also Eduardo lounged around on the deck whenever he wasn't holding a gundrill, which seemed to annoy Bellerusse to no end.
Now they were going to dock soon and neither were part of the landingpatries, it gave Eduardo a chance to setle their differences without involving the captain.

- Trust me, you don't want to know.- Zayl didn't allowed him to finish the question.- All those who are going ashore, listen and remember it, as I'll only say this once. There are poisonous frogs in the islands, and their poison is strong, but curable. But I do not wish to waste antidote on idiots who can't keep their hands to themselves!- He said it in a bit angry manner- Do not touch any bright colored frogs and you'll be safe.
- What about snakes?- someone asked.
- most of them are non poisonous. And the ones that are pose a real threat to rats. If it happens to bite you, someone must suck out the venom from the wound. As for food there are herds of wild sheep, wild pears and apples and also hazelnuts. Also it would be a good idea to stock up on freshwater. There's a spring near the largest hazelnut grove, you can't miss it. -Zayl blew out several smoke circles.- Anymore questions, except for those about my knowledge of the archipelago?

- Yes. First of all we go to a reed marsh nearby to gather beanleaf leaves.- Geralt opened one of his journals and showed them a picture of the plant.
- This is what we gather first. Off we go.- The path to the marsh was a short one. It was filled with tall grass with thin leaves.
- Be carefull, the reeds' leaves are razor sharp. Ah, here's a bunch of them right now.- Geralt showed them several small plants on the murky soil.- Pick only the healthy ones. Three handfulls from each should be enough.- Said Geralt and started plucking the leaves.
