newbee rq for a better Heroes in HD

Hi, I hope I am not wasting my keyboard in vain.
I don't know if anyone will read or reply to this. And will it really work at all...
I am new here and I will probably not progres much more than this.
Still...

First I like to say that I like Heroes III very much and in my opinion Heroes was not ment to be 3D. 3D games are a whole new enviroment and do not represent the essence of a Heroes game.

Second I would like to mention that your board is not the best I've seen. I was not alowed to post in the newcomers section untill I post atleast one reply, wich was strange. After all it is a NEWCOMERS section and it does say INTRODUCE YOUR SELF. But anywhoo...

Since Heroes IV releace I began to wonder why an exelent game like Heroes was abandoned for a completely new path of development. Fan made work made me optimistic for a while that Heroes III still has a future, but so many years have past and behold - Heroes has not changed at all.
I know, I know it has tons of new stuff...
But it is still the same OLD game. It runs on computers older than me no problem.
Is there realy no way to gather a team of artists to create High Definition images to replace the menues, animations, towns and creatures?
Are there realy no programers candidates for a project for rejuvenation of the greatest Turn Based Strategy ever?
Would you not see a fan made Heroes III kicking ass with 1080p graphics, all new fan made visuals and a collection of the best maps and campaigns made trough the years of dedicated fan support?
Do you know people in this forum that have the skills and dedication needed to dust off the titan of all games and resurect it to it's formal glory?
Why are you still puting effort of keeping fans of an retro game. That is a lost cause. The number of fans will grow thinner and thinner every day, and new games like Heroes 4, 5 and 6 will be trown in the face of the new generation of gamers, making them think that Heroes is snow compared to other 3D games.
Do you not have the time, resourse and technology needed to save your favourite game from surtain slow death?
Do you think a team capable of doing that can be assembled?
How much work would be needed to replace all ingame images with HD images?
How much coding would have to be done for Heroes HD to meet the new games requirements?

And finaly how many people would stop playing what they are playing right now to make a all-night round of Heroes HD multi???

Personaly I think it would be a smashing hit that will make a lots of companies reconsider 2D graphics gaming and fan community. And lots of guys and girls out there would loose a lot of time out of facebook and in Heroes Universe.

P.S.
And how come there is no smartphone and psp version of Heroes III out there? Atleast I can't find any working?

Love to see you comment.
even more so if this actualy builds interest and people.
I don' care what hapends to this post - my best wishes are for the game itself.

Wauw you're the most sophisticated bot I've seen yet, quite nice achievement there!

First, I don't think there's much reason to fear that your thread will be deleted, if anything, it'll maybe be moved at most.

Secondly, it may just be me, but I have a hard time getting through the point of your thread.
I understood it as you want to assemble a team of designeres and modders to create a HD version of heroes 3, and if not the game will surely end up "dying", is that correct?

Anyway, I believe there's a HD mod to heroes 3 already.
I think it's commonly frowned upon that people request other peoples work in regard to modding and designing without presenting something first that really can motivate for the project (and words aren't enough for this, I believe).
Finally, a game "dying" seems strange to me, I still play games I did when I was very young. I don't do it frequently, I do it if I want it and I don't really see how any game can "die", what can happen is that there are no more development in some games, but there I can only say each to his/her own taste.

Anyway welcome to the forums, the reason, I believe, you were not able to start a thread right away is because you need a given amount of posts first. They claim this is because they don't want spam bots to go off and make threads endlessly, but in reality, it's because they want to trap you here forever.

Have a nice life.

You really dug a hole for me there..
Like to say thaw - if I was a sophisticated bot I would have no problem outsmarting this bot defense by posting 1 reply first and than spam away - which is kinda what I did.
Posted in here cause this is where I belong. Would not want to spam where people are working.
It might seem unfair when people with no skills in an area just ask for something instead of sit on their ass and do it themselves, but I think that is how things ARE anyway. That is not my fault - you make something - you share it - those other people get it for free.
Once again - that is not my fault. Modders mod because they like it.
I was not demanding anything. I expect if I did the developers would just get pissed of with me and scrap their almost-finished work on purpose just to get back at me. Take that you bot! We will never touch our work again!
So if you would reconsider my thoughts you might change your mind. What I said is purely motivational.
About the death thing - when is a game considered dead? Well I guess it would take a nuclear war to erase a game completely off the face of the Earth. But I would consider it dead before that - lets say - when you ask a 6 year old -Hey, do you play Heroes? and the kid says -Is that compatible with my holovisor?
Yeaah,......

well, I would make a safe bet and say you would not be bothered with reading a n o t h e r pointless line from me and discard me as a troll
new opinions?

I'm not a professional, far from it actually, but I'm learning this stuff in school. What you're asking is improved graphics and game mechanics, right?

To improve game mechanics fully, one needs acces to all the code used to write the original program, as well as the requiered skill in the language. And it'd take a lot of time and work to find where stuff can be improved, and to be able to alter the code so it'll work, and work better. Since there's been some time since this game was released, and programming languages have evolved quite a bit since then, it could mean that the entire game would have to be rewritten in a newer language, which means that a lot of the code would have to be changed and /or removed, meaning it will be a tremendous amount of work.

Improving the graphics could be seen as easier, but it isn't really. You probably know that everything on the computer is made of pixels, and Heroes 3 have a set amount of pixels. Meaning that for the graphics to be improved so much that it would make a major difference, it would require the game to be made on an entirely new engine, which supports smaller pixels, meaning the code would somehow have to be altered to fit this engine.

As I said, I'm no genius at this, and there's probably more to it than this.

But as I see it, making Heroes 3 HD and improving the game mechanics much, would sort of be equal to creating an entirely new game, which takes a couple of years for a professional crew of atleast 100 people.
Considering this, it would probably take much longer for a smaller group of, mostly, amatuers (although there are some people here who know their stuff).

That is why it haven't been done so far, as far as I know, atleast. It would simply be too much work.

Besides, some of the charm in old games, for me atleast, is that the grapics and gameplay isn't as well developed as it is today, it gives you a rawer and more original feel that way. But that's just me.

No way it gonna happen with only no payed people to work on. Too much work, not enough reward. And btw, you can today run Heroes in 4000x4000 definition, using Baratorch professional patch. So maybe you can browse our "not so good forum" before firing.

I also find it strange that a "new" member must post a reply before they can post a new topic.

I was a member when I played through Heroes 4 the first time, years ago. I missed the Winds of War Campaigns and came back to play them in 2010. I got hooked and I'm currently replaying the original campaigns.

Looks like most of the Heroes 4 strategy discussions are really old. Is anyone else out there playing Heroes 4 now?

Hi and welcome first,
It's done to prevent spambots, they use to post only topics and not just posts. That's why new members need first to post a single post somewhere, before a thread. This way the bots can not post at all. They can only register and stay in silence.

Thank you all for the thoughts on the matter.
It seems like the link from Gnoll_Mage is the most relevant topic in this forum.
I did some search on what was acheived trough the years. Perhaps Heroes is indeed too archaic to be simply cosmetically refreshed. Rewriting the whole game is as hard as creating it anew.
Very unfortunate...

Sir, I was originally going to read what you said in this thread, but upon opening this thread I realized that My Avatar was insecure.
As you might or might now know, here on HC we the members who have been here for more than a month and posted 50 or more posts can have Valery(or whatever his name is) create a custom avatar for us each year. Mine for 2010(or was it 2011?) is the very avatar you are using, which is suppose to be my private one.
So I must unfortunately enough ask you to please change avatar to something less...B-E-T-Aish...Thank you for your time and sorry for the inconvenience, now back to reading what you wrote...

Hmmm an interesting thought...and I don't know what to say right now sorry xD

I did not know this Beta. Tell me more.

To your game idea...

...

I feel suddenly unqualified to post on this forum, since I have only scratched at the H3 game . Be that as it may, I honestly couldn't help you here, but I would be willing to drop the game I am playing and join you. (It just happens to be H5 )

I like the idea, but I think that the only community that would get into it would be people on this forum or die-hard fans of the game not on here (Why is this so? No idea). I don't think it would make a big enough splash for a major company to create it...

Well, when you have gotten over 50posts and stayed here for over a month, you can go to This Thread post a picture that you wish to have as your avatar, get it resized and then you HCM Valeriy about the avatar(or perhaps you just needed to keep it there on the thread) until he gets the time to add that picture into the avatar library. The picture would be named something like "B-E-T-A_2010" or "gnomes2169_2011" in other words "[Username]_[Year-submitted]" however you can only have on custom avvie per year, so "chose wisely".

Here's video from last summer:
VCMI on Nokia n900
However, since that time we didn't get help from anyone skilled and motivated enough to push it further. Four active coders are not enough to do everything you proposed.
Also, still no one has even designed interface suitable for smartphone. It sounds trivial, but won't be done just on it's own.

Another problem is that community is split and everyone presents his new OWN project just every week since when I joined HC. But good idea is not enough.

As to HD graphics, people still seem to be excited about recolored defs. Feel free to present something better, but start with your own work.

Hopefully there are little projects or ideas going on, which proves some fans have still some interest in playing or improving the game, even if laziness takes over their enthusiasm.

If not those projects going on and off, you could have been unpleasantly surprised to find that VCMI will have no use when out.

Good to see realistic opinions.
It seems everyone is aware of the sad fact that people just can't form a team working more than 2 weeks on 1 project. People either split or move-on or whatever. It's their right if they don't want to do it anymore...
More interesting is that even those who realize that this is not a job for 1 man are advising to start something on your own. Without unity we can only have thousands of unfinished small projects and not one significantly important.
On the side: I will change my avatar hopefully not with someone else's.
Told you this is not the best forum I've seen
