Fortress Problem

Good day all ...


I know I am behind in the times but I got Hammers of fate a few months ago and have noticed a problem ...


When I host multiplayer, I can choose to play as my favourite team, which the thread states is fortress ... but it never lets me choose a hero ... and once the game starts I don't have a hero and can't buy a fortress hero ...


Whats up with that ??


Any and all help would be greatly appreciated !!!

that's very unusaual, so i dont know how much help you can get from anyone
anyways, what version is it? you should download the latest patch

also, be specific. is it locked on random, or will nothing happen when you press the arrows

is this for all the factions?

Hey there,

I am using patch 2.0 as I only play HoF.


OK what happens is that I create a lan game, I choose fortress as my town of choice, then the arrows next to the select hero are not available basically blacked out, I can choose gold, resource or random artifact.

As soon as I learn to post a pic I will try that ... lol ...


Once the game starts ... I have the fortress town but no starting hero and the tavern normally doesn't stock any dwarven heroes ...

It's a 2.0 bug, patch it to 2.1 and you'll be fine Even better ditch hammers of fate and get tribes of the east if possible

Hehehe ... I have just ordered Tribes of the east ... but I am a little worried with the way they have changed everything ... i mean ... i am new to this game and now i gotta relearn ... lol ...

I will install the update asap and let u know if it works ...

Yes a number of things have changed but it's for the better I could give a few hints if you want to learn faster or the key differences since HoF.

I would be grateful ... I have been browsing this site ... but i mean ... most of the strategies are understandable ... but they all 4 Tribes of the east ... not the little guy like me ... lol ...


If possible ... could u just mention some of the changes for the 3 teams i play ... Fortress, Inferno, Necropolis ...

How can I tell if I have the US or Europe Version of Hammers of Fate ... ... I want to get the latest patch but my internet is not uncapped and would hate 2 waste cap ... lol ... (my country sucks)

If you live in America you likely have the American version


Inferno has really changed. First, it can now get flaming arrows, power of speed and endurance. Second, its gameplay changes due to the introduction of horned grunts that can leap from 8 tiles to land a devastating attack(double or triple retaliation though ), succubus seducers that can control enemy units, pit spawns are a much better might version of the pitlords and archdemons while a little slower than archdevils can teleport enemies/allies within their movement range next to them. Grunts, seducers and spawns are kind of default choices since they are normally better than their original upgrades.

Necropolis has had huge changes as well. Since you did not patch you are probably unfamiliar with the revised necromancy. Now according to your level and necromancy mastery you have x dark points per week that you can use to raise the undead units you like after killing neutrals. For instance archers would give skeleton archers, mages would give liches, titans would give wraiths and so on. It's all in the manual if you cannot remember what gives what. Skeleton warriors are the tougher melee version of skelies that can also bash, vampire princes lose no retaliation but can cause a unit to sleep for 2 turns(seriously imbalanced in 3.1), lich masters can raise dead but their attack does not hit all nearby targets, banshees have a (not too powerful)aoe attack on nearby targets and ghost dragons cause sorrow. Like inferno they can access power of speed/endurance which greatly improves their might department. Instead of raise skeleton archer perk(at least I think it was called that way) now you have mark of the necromancer(you may have known it as spirit link in old dark magic tree?) though it now gives 1 mana per 75 dmg, not 50.

Dwarves got a few changes themselves. I forget skill changes but their alternatives offer some new possibilities as well. Harpooners can drag an opponent 1 tile closer instead of causing cripple, white bears can scare multiple targets instead of paw strike, battleragers can bash and have passive bonuses(important part is they don't suck like berserkers ), rune patriarchs can fling 2 fireballs instead of 1 firewall and lava dragon loses magma shield but causes little flames on the path of his firebreath that deal extra dmg to those who walk on them(stick to magmas).

General changes:
Be sure to check skill wheel, all factions are now different. All have access to triple ballista and swift mind for one, many can get warlock's luck. Stormwind and fog veil have become much stronger.

if you bought it in the US it will be the US version and if you bought it in europe it will be the europe version.
i don't know what versions are available in asia

WOW ... so many changes ... lol ... and i am sure that is just a brief rundown ... hahaha ... at least i am not a seasoned pro so it's like learning a new game ... not having 2 4get everything 1st .. hahaha ...

I just updated my game and YESSSSS ... i can actually lan with the dwarves ... hahaha ... time 2 own my friend ... 4 a week at least ... o get tribes of the east next week Friday ...

Hey there ...

Me again ... I am sure u must be seriously annoyed with me by now ... but ...


I noticed that the special graphics for the paw strike and the Skirmisher's special (Crippling Wound) has disappeared ... any particular reason 4 this ?? ... could the no cd crack cause this ??


(i have an original before ppl complain but i run a lan with 3 pc's at home and refuse 2 buy 3 copies of the game )

I don't even remember. Also depending on the crack you may or not be able to use runes.
