Ocean floor (HMM5)

Hi everybody!

I'm making a Tamriel (the world from the Elder Scrolls games) map for Heroes of Might and Magic 5. It's the first time I'm using the map editor for anything more complicated than small experiments.

Anyway, large parts of the map are covered by sea, which I have made using the "Lower" tool, and I just can't figure out what kind of terrain I'm going to use for the ocean floor.

Any tips?

I like the look of several.

You can go with one of the "conquest" skins for the main body of water. I like the bottom one with multiple colors, then when you near rocks. use a "stone" skin from grass, sand or orcish". <L> around those. It's your call, you can put some "like-tile" near the beaches. e.g. One of the dead-lands under "lava" has fire cracks.<L> Put some smoke and fog out there.

Tip: If you put an "object" at a place "before" you "lower" then you will have it sitting in the water. Works great for many things.

Have fun.

Thank you very much for your tips and replies! Lowering stuff into the water looks great, definitely going to use that to make a more interesting seabed. The conquest skins look perfect! I ended up using one of the blue-greenish ones.

Here's a picture of how the map looks so far.

And here's another project I started today. It's the Imperial City (if you've played Oblivion you know this place).

Comments or critisism are deeply appreciated!

Cheers!

Hey there,
I always set Reflective Water (down in the left corner of the editor) from false to true. Like this, the water looks way more realistic.

Good luck with your map
