Arena OoC

Welcome to earth, 290X. After years of weapons research and multitudes of wars, the face of the earth has become pock-marked and desecrated with deserts barren of almosr all life. As far as anyone can tell, the only surviving states are located in what was the Midwestern US. Here, people realized their division was tearing the world apart ever so slowly, and that if the human race was to survive, we needed to change. Weapons had become too powerful, one man could even eradicate a city by himself with the sweep of his hand. This man was killed just before the surviving humans began their efforts to save themselves. The resulting explosion from his weapon's destruction that killed this walking god flattened the Andes mountains. Another man was said to have developed another weapon that not only gave him great power, but also gave him the ability to recreate his body.

With the destruction of most of the known world's life, the survivors created a new government. They called it the Kingdom and created limits on the surviving weapons. Under one King's authority, these weapons are held in a tight leveling system, 10-0. To the King is given the authority to raise and lower these levels at will as reward or punishment to the warriors who prove themselves or fail. Why invest all power in one man? Because the King cannot become any more powerful or any more in control. His weapon is lvl 0, and his word is law, what more is there for him to claim? So the royal family lives in luxury and sloth, never wanting for anything, since as far as they know they own everything!

The second question you may ask is, why not just dismantle the weapons? Why restrict them when a better solution is just to destroy them? Two reasons: One, if taken apart improperly, some weapons could destroy most of what is left of the inhabitable land area; and two, there is life out there in those deserts... Unfriendly life if not very much. The weapons need to remain for protection against these things. Since they are needed, every citizen has one and if they do not inherit or find a weapon, then each citizen is issued at least a lvl 10 weapon. Also, the rankings are used for social status. The lower your number, the higher your ranking and the more you can have.

Through great feats of discovery or through proving yourself in battle against "Freaks" or other humans, an individual can improve there number and social ranking. One such way to prove yourself is in the Arena. Every two years a competition is held that many participate in. The winner over all and the two runner ups are rewarded with upgrades, which improves life span, weapon power, monetary gains and status. also, the winner and runner ups are usually given the option of joining the king's guards, a highly sought after, safe and noble job.

Our story starts with a teen who signed himself and his friends up for the Arena (without them knowing) under the endorsement of an unknown employer...

Weapons: Weapon power is determined by type, shape and function. The term "Weapon" also describes what kind of armor you are wearing and will determine how durable or how nimble you will be in a fight. Most weapons are melee and take on the shape of swords, axes or spears. Some weapons are guns, though most ranged weapons are bows or crossbows nowadays, since their models, though less powerful and shorter ranged, offer more protection. There is also a rudimentary "magic" system, throwing fire from your hands, arching lightning into some guy's face, freezing attacks, momentarily draining weapon power, etc, etc. This "magic" is generally used in combination with a physical weapon, though it takes a toll on weapon power or armor durability.

I'm going to leave the option for how powerful your weapon is up to you guys. Just know that there will be a turn-based system and that I will assign values to the weapons you create for lvls 10-X (not telling you how strong we're getting. )

Races: Three major races exist today. The Humans, Experiments and Freaks.

Humans: Basically the people still alive today, humans are versatile, smart and relatively sane. They have great amounts of adaptability and will draw no glances in the territory of the Kingdom. They also have the best chance of getting an upgrade from their actions.

Experiments: After years of fighting the freaks, farmers and guards came to the science facilities to ask for aid. What they received were the Experiments. Experimental humans are genetically altered to be stronger and faster than normal humans, if their intelligence, sanity and ability to reproduce suffer for it. Most Experiments are sterile. Experiments in the Arena are strong contenders every year, though they rarely win because of their somewhat simple strategies. They are also likely to be passed over for upgrades and are often looked down upon as "Sub-humans."

Freaks: Mortal enemies of the humans and the Experiments, Freaks are the surviving people and creatures that live out in the barren wastes called the US. They are wild, strong, fast, durable, calculating and completely bat guano crazy. they have a variety of genetic traits that make them strong enough to handle the average human with a weapon lvl of 7 or higher, but do not use weapons themselves. They are hunted by soldiers and killed whenever they come too close.

"Leveling up": Each character has their own unique traits that make them more apt at something than someone else. These traits are shown more clearly as the person grows older and gains more experience. As the group right now is rather young, most base stats will be between 1 and 4. these will slowly raise as the character gains more combat experience. For instance...

Tim, Lvl 1 human:
Hp: 4 * Weapon bonus

Level up!

Hp: 4 ^ 5
Tim now has 5 base Hp!

While the growth may seem small, remember that weapon lvl will effect the stats greatly. Base Hp is important to get up...

Stats: Every person has a statistic that allows them to perform better in a fight than usual. These stats are:

Hp: Determines how hard and often you can be hit. Multiplied by your weapon's health value.
Strength: Determines how hard your melee attacks hit. Added to weapon melee damage.
Precision: Adds to ranged weapon damage. Added to weapon ranged damage. Does not automatically allow ranged attacks.
Intelligence: Determines how well you control "Magic" attacks. Added to weapon's Magic damage. Does not automatically allow magic.
Defense: Determines how hard the enemy has to hit you to deal actual damage. Multiplied by your weapon's defense stat.
Speed: Determines how many times you may act and when you act in battle. Only certain weapons can add to this, all of them melee.
Luck: Increases crit chance. Not effected by anything, ever.

Battle system: Each player has a set of moves that they know. Lvlups and weapon upgrades add to the list of choices that a character has. Think of them as skills. During battle, there are turns. Each turn you may choose an action (or two if your speed is high enough), and these are the actions your character may perform. Do not think that after using the same move once that they second attack will be as effective, people adapt. Humans generally have the longest list of skills.

So, anyone interested?

Side note: This would be a rather short RP (8-10 pages, tops) and it is part of a series.
