Heroes VI Centralized Wish List

* UPDATE: 1 week and 25 votes later. I would like to thank all of you who expressed their opinion on the matter. The list made a couple of points.

- The community is really united behind most of the changes/fixes envisioned for Heroes 6. Transparency/Bug Fixes/Custom MP maps/Balance/New Factions/Skilltree remake being the ones more prominent.

- Town screens are by far not the top of the list! There are other things desired most.

- There are strong opinions about a feature or 2 but from a minority. No matter how great they sound, they just do not have enough traction.

- the agreement is more on the we need to fix this, and way less on on how to fix it.


Maybe I will sound harsh, but from only 25 votes on such a topic I can only conclude that we as a hole really deserve the state the game is in. This picture describes the whole thing better.

This is intended as a prioritized wish list with all the things we want fixed/implemented in Heroes 6 and its expansions.
Almost all points in this list were addressed at one point or another in hundreds of threads. The scope of this list is to be a centralized place with all the major problems/wishes we have with Heroes 6. Off course some of the wishes are too extravagant (fitting more a Heroes 7) and will not be centralized here. The emphasis is on the feasible ones in Heroes 6 in the remaining time frame.

It is expected that the list should undergo some changes with the first 10-15 posts but after that it should be more or less it's final state.

Entry Format:

Desirability: (0-100) => (0-30:Low, 30-70:Medium, 70-100:High) - How badly you want this feature to be implemented/fixed.
Complexity: An estimate on how complex the problem/solution is to fix/implement. (It is here mainly for a better deadline estimation.)
When to implement it (ASAP, 1's Expansion, 2'nd Expansion). (Depending on the first 2).

Users will vote only on Desirability (comments can be made on complexity and time-frame also, they can be adjusted). You do not have to vote on every item since its a long list, but it will sure help getting more accurate numbers. If you do not vote on an item the actual value at the time of your post will be taken into account.

You can vote as you wish from 0 to 100. Just use increments of 5 (50 or 55 or 80 and not 31.245 or 37). Please do not down-vote or over-vote intentionally. Even in a large sample you will bias the list towards your wishes.

For easier voting, here a blank voting list. Copy paste and  fill in the numbers.
Feel free to request new things to the list or changes to existing ones or their description.

1) Bugs:

1.1) All Bugs Fixed - There are entire books on different bugs. Fix them! VIP Bug list here(TBD).
Desirability: High(78); Complexity: Low; When: ASAP/Ongoing;
Details:
- Flickering Battle cursor bug
- Angel Watch full gauge Bug
- Save games disappearing
- Hot-keys not working
- Praetorians giving fake buffs to enemies
etc.

1.2) Fix Units on Helium Bug - Fix sound bug when animations are accelerated
Desirability: High(90); Complexity: Low; When: ASAP;



2) Community: (Maps, Multi-player, Social)

2.1) RMG - Random Map Generator
Desirability: Medium(47); Complexity High; When: 1'st/2'nd expansion;

2.2) Battle Replays - Present us with a save feature for battles. Will help the community so much. New and veteran players alike. Will create a new type of content (Heroes related stuff is so sparse anyway), will help learning, will spread battle strategies etc.
Desirability: High(63); Complexity: Low; When: ASAP;

2.3) Add more single player and multi-player options - Allow more control when you start a map on difficulty settings and AI settings.
Desirability: High(68); Complexity: Low; When: ASAP;
Specifics:
- Separate adventure AI difficulty from Battle AI difficulty.
- Map creator suggested difficulty

2.4) Allow Custom Maps in Multi-player - Right now they are not playable and multi-player is a major component of Heroes experience.
Desirability: High(93); Complexity: low; When: ASAP;

2.5) Add Simultaneous turns - This will speed up Multiplayer a lot and make it more desirable overall. At least introduce it in a basic form like: "Until there is a possible player interaction allow players to move simultaneously"

3) User Interface:

3.1) Town Screens - H3 or H5 style town screens or a combination.
Desirability: High(60); Complexity: High; When: 1'st Expansion;

3.2) Improved UI - Tweak the User Interface to allow a smoother game experience
Desirability: High(70); Complexity: Low; When: ASAP;
Specifics:
- Add Numbers to hero path.
- When leveling up allow direct access to hero skill tree.
- When in town highlight on mini-map in what town you are
- Separate Towns from Forts (You do not build in forts).
- Make Artifacts Bigger on Adventure Map - Nice Artifact Artwork but too small on Adventure map to distinguish.

3.4) Detailed information on Town Screens / Kingdom overview / Hero screens - It is a strategy game / kingdom builder, etc. Detailed information about everything should be readily available.
Desirability: High(64); Complexity: Low; When: ASAP;
Details:
- Make it clear how many stats you get from what item
- Make it clear where all the +creatures come.




4) Game Mechanics:

4.1) Alternative Creature Upgrades - At least one alternative in each tier. This will also address the small creature pool.
When: 1'st/2'nd expansion; Desirability: Medium(60); Complexity: Medium;

4.1.1) More Units in the same tier - Castles should have more than 7 Creatures to choose from.
When: 1'st/2'nd expansion; Desirability: Medium(50); Complexity: Medium;

4.2) Add an Option to Disable Shared Creature Pool
Desirability: High(37); Complexity: Low; When: ASAP;

4.3) New battle grounds - Add more diversity into fights.
Desirability: Medium(47); Complexity: Low; When: ASAP;
Description:
- Add Dwarven treasury like fights.
- Different size battlegrounds.
- Different unit placements.
- Make buff Structures count in Neutral fights also.
- Reinvigorate cover mechanism.

4.4) New Adventure Map buildings - Add more variety to Adventure map buildings.
Desirability: Medium(55); Complexity: Low; When: ASAP;
Details:
- Add Windmills, Watermills, Gardens
- Add Dragon Utopias.
- Diversify the Adventure Map objects, beyond plain +Stat givers.

4.5) Tweak Town Conversion - Right now everybody blindly converts towns asap so tweak the current "We are the Borg, prepare to be assimilated approach"
Desirability: High(42); Complexity: Low; When: ASAP;
Details:
- Make conversion more expensive.
- Add a timer to conversion (1 week or so)
- Disable Town conversion as a map option.


4.6) Balance Factions - Factions are hardly balance.
Complexity: Low; When: ASAP/Ongoing;  Desirability: High(90);
Specifics:
- Racial skills are unbalanced. Necromancy the best while Inferno's Gating is situational and Sporadic.
- Healing is still OP.

4.7) Add New Factions - Make them Noticeably Different from the existing ones. (Special skills, special racial ability, special creature interaction)
Desirability: High(83); Complexity: High; When:1'st expansion/2'nd Expansion;
Details:
- Old Fortress seems to be a favorite
- Dungeon, Academy, Sylvan factions

4.8) Remove spells from skill tree - Rework the magic tree and make some spells available only to some factions.
Desirability: Medium(50); Complexity: Medium; When: ASAP;
Details:
- One solution would be to Reintroduce Magic Guilds
- leave only basic, advanced,expert stuff in skill tree, the spells themselves should be moved back into towns.
- Separate Spell Scrolls from Artifact merchant.

4.9) Remake skill tree - Different factions should learn different skills (H5 like skill tree, but with less complexity)
Desirability: High(92); Complexity: Medium; When: ASAP;

4.10) Add an additional resource: Blood Diamonds - Too less room strategy with only 1 rare resource. When it becomes unavailable it just stops you from building for many turns.
Desirability: Medium(47); Complexity: Medium; When: ASAP;
Details:
- Make factions dependent more on one or another resource.
- At least one faction heavy dependent on both rares.
- Will resolve most of the cases where you cannot build anymore because your out of crystals.

4.11) Place Units on Battlefield like in Heroes 3 - Right now you cannot say Unit deployment order on battlefield from unit placement in hero slots.
Desirability: High(80); Complexity: Low; When: ASAP;




5) AI:

5.1) Better Battle AI - Do not always target the same units, do not always heal, do not always wait with archers, etc.
Desirability: Medium(45); Complexity Low; When: ASAP;

5.2) Better Adventure AI - Make opponent AI more challenging and more human like.
Desirability: Medium(20); Complexity: High; When: 1'st/2'nd Expansion;

5.3) Better AI in Campaigns - Right now after 1'st month it poses no challenge.
Desirability: Medium(50); Complexity: High; When: 1'st Expansion;
Details:
    - Castles found in 4'th months without even the basic buildings built in them.
    - AI Splits its armies too much making to easy to defeat him.




6) Conflux:

6.1) Fix Conflux - Fix connectivity issues.
Desirability: High(60); Complexity: Low; When: ASAP;

6.2) Off-line mode for Conflux - Syncronizable off-line Conflux
Desirability: High(35); Complexty: Low; When: ASAP;

6.3) Improved Chat in Conflux - Make it usable for in-game chatting.
Desirability: Low(33); Complexity: Low; When: ASAP;




7) Special Section: Not all people realise how they are affected by these subtle changes. But they will improve the game for everyone so they are a must.

7.1) Game must be fully moddable - User mods have made the series so much better. User mods can fix most of the things in this list. At least un-encrypt game files.
Desirability: High(100); Complexity: Low; When: ASAP;

7.2)Map editor Improvements - Improve the Map editor interface, improve it's scripting capabilities.

0): 65. Agree on more transparancy, but we do not need to know everything. Don't give dates if there isn't 110% certainty you can make them, do not make promises you cannot keep.

1): 100. Bugs need fixing period.

2): 0. Has no priority for me whatsoever. I don't multi-play, so I could live well without all of the proposed features. I know there are plenty who do and to whom this is a priority but I couldn't care less. Time spent on multiplayer features is time that could have been spent in better ways, IMO.


3.1): 100. I could still live with the town-windows we have, but I would love to see them.
3.2): 80. Would like to see an arival estimate (which I think is what you mean with numbers on path), and the seperation of towns and forts. The rest I could live without.
3.3): 0. They are big enough as it is. I can see them fine and I play on 1920-1080. (Which still counts as a big screen as far as I know)
3.4): 50. It would be very nice to see where everything comes from. Creatures, stats etc. But I could live with the way things are now.

4.1): If implemented the way it was in TotE, 100. If implemented in any other way 55. TotE was great, upgrading the dwelling meant you could choose from either upgrade and switch from one upgrade to the other for a minimal price. If alternative upgrades means different ways to upgrade the creature dwelling, it is going to make for a whole lot of unnecesary hasstle. Still more creatures is always desirable IMHO.
4.1.1): If we do not get alternative upgrades 100. If we do get them 60. More creatures is better. More creatures on the same tiers would help diversify the factions and the gameplay. However we do not ever want to get stuck as in Heroes IV with towns of your own alligment with tiers you do not want to have. That is something we must avoid at all times. Either make everything buildable or give us the option to tear-down buildings if they are exclusionary, so we are able to get the things we want.
4.2): 30 I have no desire to get the option to turn this off. It saves me a lot of hassle with caravans and having transport heroes. However, I will humour those who do not like this and a good caravan system might be a nice tactical challenge every once in a while.
4.3): 60. Would be fun, but should not be to high on the list. Besides it's not that different to fight a stack on the map that has some stuff around it or fight a location and get some stuff. Will only get a bump if it actually adds something new, like the arena did(without casualty fighting).
4.4): 60. Same priority as 4.3, especially if we do not get more flaggable things.
4.5): 45. Up the cost, perhaps. But timers I disagree with. I am actually glad with townconversions. While towns of a different alligment are nice income generators, I always disliked the waste of creaturegrowth.
4.6): 100. Ballance Improvements should ever be at the top of the list, for it is never truely done untill the plug is pulled. Take a look at blizzard who still patch games that are ancient in game-years.
4.7): 100. I doubt many people want to see Fortress so soon or at all, assuming that you mean Dwarven Fortress. I do, but I'm a minority. I suspect that more people want to see the traditional factions of Dungeon, Academy and Sylvan first. Still, new factions are good and I want to see them all return with further expansions. And if you mean Swamp, Heroes 3 style Fortress, I'm all for that too, especially if we still give the dwarves their own with a new name or vice versa.
4.8): 65. Not necesary, as there are otherways of reworking the learning of spells, which would be a great boon. Mage-guilds are just a conservative refuge.
4.9): 90  Agree with the need for faction uniquity, complexity is not a bad thing, certainly if we continue to leave (more or less)random chance out of the equation. Skill wheels or skill trees, it doesn't matter to me, as long as I do not get forced to choose things I do not want to choose, which was something nearly unavoidable in the chance system.
4.10): 20. Not necesary. Especially since it screws factions over when the resource they depend upon is in low supply on that map. And there is especially no need for new and contrived rescources. Why not introduce some rescources that have some actual productive use like petroleum or coal, if we must add more rescources. I also disagree to the return to the old rescources for purely nostalgic reasons without proper explianation of their use. And Alchemy does not constitute a proper explaination.


5.1): 75. Making the AI not use the same tricks all the time I am all for.
5.2): Still don't understand what you mean here.
5.3): 75. The weak multipronged attack the AI seems to so favor annoys the hell out of me. It takes up a lot of my time to chase after those heroes, who still pose a threat to my economy if I let them run willy-nilly. It remains a cheap keep-away tactic by the AI. I am aware how hard it is to write a good easy AI, but up your game lads.

6): 20. I have absolutely no problem with the conflux and I have other things to occupy myself with when the servers are down. Just give us a heads up when they go down. And unless I have a super-connection, which I most certainly don't, the problem is not entirely Ubisoft's.

7): 20. I don't mod and I hardly ever make use of them, so this has no priority for me.

Does this constitute 80% agreement?

You can vote whatever you find fit from 0 to 100! With 5 increments I meant to vote 30-45-60-65 and not 32.45 or 31. I will clear it up in the post. Can you re-vote please?

Then it is a stupid implementation. It seem only normal to me to be able to speed up unit animations without breaking sounds.

What was their intention? To play the game with sounds turned off?

I cannot believe it.  

I only recently changed the speed setting, and the Haven units suddenly sounded like cartoon chipmunks, which is completely unbearable.  I am simply struck dumb that Ubi declares that as intentional.  

That has got to be one of the most awful PR lies ever, and it makes me somewhat furious.  No programmer in their right mind would assume that making all of the units sound like they've been sucking helium when the speed is turned up would be preferable for anyone.

The unwittingly crappy side effects of lazy programming should under no circumstances be passed off as some deliberate decision by the developers.  Just disgusting.

I've made a special entry in the Wish list especially for this bug - that is officially not a bug.

Edit > On a sidenote, notice that there is a distinction between how desirable things are and how urgent we need them. Some of the things I gave mid-grades here (like 40-50-60) are things I do think are desirable, I just don't think they are that urgent considering the state the game is in currently. For instance, before they start adding new factions or creatures to existing factions, I think they need to fix bugs and balance. I definitely think more factions MUST come, but not before game runs acceptable with current content.

I agree and from the votes up to now it's clear that this is what people want most. More transparency / Fix all bugs / Balance Factions / Skill tree remake.

The remark I would like to make is that because we seem to agree the skill tree needs a thorough remake, an acceptable solution would be to *"quick" balance factions to a degree that "will pose some difficulties to a 6 year old to order them according to power", and then do a more in depth balance once the new skill tree is in place.

* I say "quick" balance although I came also to believe that it will require some major changes for inferno's gating and to destiny (add bad luck, give more luck points, etc).

Clearly, I have problems with everyone's conception of what features are necessary in a Heroes game. Sorry if I'm a bad voter (not entirely sure if it's the case).

4.8) The current system don't bother me, and another system, if good, won't bother me either. But this and the next point should only be one point, people. Getting the magic out of the skill tree necessarily implies you,re reworking the skill tree.

4.9) See above.

4.10) 0. I don't agree with this statementof lack of strategy, nor this need for more. It's fine as it is.

4.11) 70. I'd rather much more have the Heroes 5 placement method though, 'cause I'm a spoiled brat, and also with homm3 and the curretn skill system whoever needs the extra deployment space needs to invest 2 skill points, while the others can vaguely make do without investing anything.

5.1) 60. A lot of it is very situationnal though, very complicated, and targetting always the same unit can be a good idea btw (Liches! Shoot them!).

5.2) 50.

5.3) 50. Note that the difficulty on maps where you have a set amount of troops to get through tends to be challenging on hard already. Gotta watch out to not make that part near impossible too.

6.1) 70
