Really, Ubishop?

An user at the official forums said that he had to wipe his hard disk and reinstall Windows, and when he tried to redownload the game through the Ubishop, he found that he's not allowed to download the game after 30 days of the payment.

Then, this is the official response of Ubisoft:

Quote:
The purchases that you make through the Ubishop online store has a one month download period. If you have exceeded that month you will need to purchase either an Extended Download Service or a Backup Disk. When opening up your order on the website you will see these options at the bottom of the Order Details page.

Really, Ubishop? You have to pay extra money for getting the game you already legally acquired?

Tipical behavour of corporation.
You can express your indignation here.
I wonder how can people still believe in Ubisoft (particular about Might and Magic franchise)?

In Ubi's defense, that bit of info is extremely hard to miss. But yep, buying digital products from them sucks monkey b@lls:extra for long-term availability, no refunds, the hassle of actually getting the product...(Remember my old thread about it?) Trademark Ubicr@p.
The moment it successfully downloads, one should make at least one failsafe backup.

I may be an old school player but that's why I hate modern games policy. Digital downloads, drm's, dlc, games u cannot play without internet connection etc. Maybe the idea is good, but technical issues and human errors make it troublesome. I miss good ol' times when buying a game in a shop was all that was required to fully enjoy it...

It's not digital game policy, it's Ubisoft policy. On Steam you are free to download, redownload and install games on multiple platforms at will as everyone could expect.

Again, it's not an issue or error, but intentional solution. They created this "Extended Download Service" for a purpose, ie. to milk suckers.

I'd say something, but apparently I need to have a UPlay account to log in on their forums.

Interesting, someone said recently, that this has already been fixed and you can re-download at will even after 1-2 years run out/etc.
I wonder who's correct. Maybe UBI changed their policy?

It happened to me and they sent me a new download link that xould remain active for 5 days. You can download the game at will but for this you MUST keep the Downloader Manager exe file.

EDIT : This was in february of this year though, things might have changed.

EDIT 2 : Apparently there's a download button if you registered the game in UPlay. This kinda makes things even worse since the Ubisoft Support did NOT talk about this, he immediately went about how you must pay extra services ...

I work as tech support, so here is what I would suggest to say:
Ask them when the policy was changed.
Ask them why they did not tell you such an option exists, when it does.

Well I had no problem, I'm not the one Storm-Giant posted about (this happened in June/July - my problem happened in February). When I contacted the Customer Service, they activated a link for free and advised me to save the Downloader Manager exe file as it's all that's needed to redownload the game.

Though I agree that the guy who got told he had to pay for this extra customer bullsnow should go berserk at them
