Yeah I totally agree quicksand is really tough spell But it requires a powerful hero who has earth magic, spell points etc...

Btw I think that it really depends on the situation which spell is best. For example, magic arrow can be better than berserk at the beginning cause you don't have really much spell points to cast berserk..

Also magic arrow has great priority in AI spells, and having any of protections spells can save you several high level creatures/battle. So who says protection of water is useless did not yet fought early game some AI hero which constantly keeps casting magic arrow on your angels until they die. Protection from x combined with cure does miracles in this type of fight.

Well you have to pick one spell as the worst, which level 1 spell can you say is worse than protection from water?

This is common problem with such threads started by new players: you are asked to pick or separate things in good/bad. Which is best/worse specialty, best/worse skill, spell, hero, monster etc. By doing this you limit your game-play experience to given situations, but never expand it to whole game. We all agree that slow and haste are best things in game, but there are still various situations where other spells will save your a$$, therefore they will rank better in that moment.

No offense intended to thread starter, but when you rank forgetfulness, sorrow and quick sand as bad spells, it only means you just started to play.

I've played Heroes 3 since my big brother introduced it to me, that would be about 7-8 years ago. I've played it on and off and I still keep learning stuff. Its not my favorite game, but I'd say its a game that makes me feel relaxed.

Also, some people doesn't understand that this is only for battle spells and not for those outside battle spells, like Fly, Town Portal, Dimension Door etc.

You don't even understand what others argue about, my friend. This game is much bigger and deeper than your personal experience and people have been playing it for 12 years, together. There were uncountable stragey guides, mechanics exploits, in-depth game analyses and custom rulesets as well as mods (actual or just proposed).
Just because YOU have some opinion doesn't allow you to arbitrary decide which spells are best or worse, without explanation. It seems that for many of them you don't really know how to use them, in first place, and tested them in very limited situations.

I'm not arguing. I'm just asking for peoples opinions on what they think are the best and the worst spells.

protection from water is the worst in my opinion.

although sometimes i like casting it with ice elementals when i know i will not lose any troops b/c it looks cool Lol.

most underrated spells (would be cool to get feedback on these as well):

frenzy
sacrifice
force field
quicksand

Remove Obstacle is good for Behemoth, you don't must near a Behemoth. But if you invented better move then ok. Other players must experiment with all spells, not combat for better move, when depth.

Gotta say that Death Ripple is a great spell now after using it a few times and now I am in love with Necropolis, one of the greatest towns according to my opinion. (since some people seem to have a problem that people can have opinions)

Death Ripple is also very dangerous when you have scouts that you don't wanna lose (carrying artifacts, giving resources, etc...) so you place your 5 gnolls in the slots like:  1 1 1 1 1 in order to be able to escape when attacked. Yet an enemy hero with Death Ripple or Chain Lightning comes and wastes him.

An interesting quirk of Sacrifice spell is that it's much better when you sacrifice low-level units with it. Let's look at the formula:

Resurrected HP = (Power + sacrificed_creature_base_health + 3Basic/6Advanced/10Expert)x number_of_sacrificed_creatures

As evidenced above, Spell Power and Fire Magic skill bonus are added to base HP and then multiplied by the number of sacrificed creatures. Spell Power and Fire Magic bonuses are most significant when sacrificed creatures are very numerous.

So, how many imps do I need to sacrifice to revive a week (2) of archdevils ? Let's find out !



Moral of the story: it's foolish to sacrifice Pit Lords for Archdevils, unless your magic is pathetic.

My point is that Sacrifice is a surprisingly good spell if you know the exact formula. Which I didn't while I still played Heroes 3. It's also one of few spells where Spell Power - and not just magic skill - has a significant effect.

I have never ever used that spell, it should be a level 3 spell instead. Then it would PROBABLY be a little bit better.

It is a great spell, the backside is that it needs casting time (we often have other priorities than magic mirror). In WoG creatures with automatic applied magic mirror are very hard to defeat.
