Stone skin mass I know for a fact gives more defence than mass ice armour, but I'm not sure about the normal versions.

When schools aren't a factor, Ice Armor is the better choice hands down. -1 speed may prevent Glories/Furies etc from returning, or even reaching your troops, +20% might damage always comes in handy... Stone Skin offers better raw dmg reduction, but Ice Armor has more useful side-effects.

Stone skin offers more reduction but arround 2 % more. It also allows you to recast  it less often. One more spell may be crucial sometimes.
